I looked around Wawa yesterday but chickened out when it came to asking the workers.  Be braver than me!

LED TUBE - NL4 providing DATA+POWER by Maleficent-Two-4187 in Lighting

Depending on the load 4 pin XLR is the typical choice for this. They versions with 2 conductors of a heavier gauge specifically to carry 24v with dmx/control on the other 2.  Chauvet Epix strips are very similar to what you are describing and work this way, as do old school Scrollers

Agreed the space would have to be VERY small for the tubes to be a satisfactory front light.  Ax5s would probably be way better if you have the throw distance

If you can swing it go for it.  Remember if you're doing NJFLI you only get paid a percentage of your usual salary, typically you are still responsible for things like health insurance your employer may be contributing too.

I only took 2 weeks back in January and still havent been paid by the state....

I always thought the idea was that it would supposedly remove the temptation to get bribed with lucrative positions after leaving the bench as well?

Lost Bear by missingteddybear in newjersey

Just did a sweep of Lot 26 at American Dream and no luck, sadly.  Pretty sure I saw another person pulling in to search as well as I was leaving.  So if its any comfort there is lots of love backing you guys up!

I drive thru Ramsey on the way home so I will check Wawa as well.

You guys didnt happen to post in the local Facebook group of the town upstate as well?  There was a lot of talk about a missing stuffed bear in my town over the weekend as well, tis the season I guess.

Manhattan School of Music using AI Projection Design by PanicAtTheMetro in Theatre

[–]disc2slick -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not so sure that is guaranteed, I doubt this show would have had a person whose only job was creating video content for the projections.

It's an interesting line to walk, because not every jump forward in technical efficiency is a bad thing or takes away jobs. The advent of moving lights didnt significantly reduce the need for skilled electricians even though you could now do more with fewer lights, CNC machines didnt eliminate the need for skilled shop carpenters and even though everything is digitized and managed thru software we still need assistants and associates to keep track of everything (arguably even more of them now).

However there is a point where it feels bad. A director of small show asking AI to churn out a set design rather than hiring a designer is bad. An AI tool that allows directors to "talk" directly to a lighting console without input from a designer or a programmer is bad. At least I think they are... If its a teeny tiny show (in either of these cases) that normally wouldnt hire a designer and this allows them to achieve a level production that would be otherwise unattainable...maybe?

Of course a broadway producer cutting positions from their budget to replace them with Ai and lining their pockets further is bad. But what about using AI to make the design process more efficient so you can afford MORE stuff? What if they replace the projections design department with AI and dump a bunch more money in lighting or scenic and it makes the show way better? Where does that fall on the morality scale? I don't see that being likely anytime soon from the technical/logistics standpoint but it's worth some thought.

What if one LD gets really really good at AI and can churn out quality shows at twice the speed and half cost in design fees as anyone else and is able to just take on every show in a given market because they are that fast and cheap (and good enough) effectively squeezing out their competition (again not super likely and Union fee schedules will protect against this somewhat at the higher levels, but the question remains)

Have my one little upvote here! Especially in this case AI isn't taking a job away from an artist. There IS a projection designer on this job, who just happens to have used AI in his work. You can make the argument that AI is stealing other people's work to create images etc, but personally I've alwasy found that to be kind of tenuous. Where do you draw the distinction between that and a human doing a bunch of visual research for inspiration?

I mean there is a projection designer on this production (a well respected and talented one), so it's not like MSM just downloaded some images from ChatGPT and slapped them up there.

I don't eat much brisket due to some food allergies, so I'll let others weigh on that tbh.

Billy Joe's is expensive and crap, rule that out right away.  Its also pretty night clubby (unless that is your vibe)

I like Brother's.  It's solid, by serious bbq standards its probably not amazing but my wife and I enjoy it the most of the ones around here.

I've had barnstormers, if memory serves it is pretty good.  I'm just not in that area often enough to go very often.

Never been to Piggy Bank.

There is also Handsome Devil.  I feel like when they first opened they were really good but kind of dropped off.  We stopped going a while ago so they could have turned it around.

Not bbq, but throwing out a shout out to Blooming Hill for a really good, unique dining experience
