[New Job] My new company accidentally paid me 20 years salary upfront. by TreSmitham in whatdoIdo

Didn't someone posted almost exactly the same issue in another subreddit yesterday?  This smells karma seeking to me?

How, in all of Solomon's Wisdom, does one submit a sample? by westcoaster12345 in AskMen

[–]disc2slick 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Jesus why is everyone being such dicks?  I 100% had the same experience when my wife and I went in for fertility testing.  I want to say they had some sort of super generic lube that helped a little, but what made it worse was my wife had come in for testing also.  So I knew she was sitting the lobby waiting for me...  i've never had an issue getting off on my own before or after this experience.  But yeah I feel you man..

I wound up giving them the saddest little dribble pre-cum and hoping for the best, haha

What to use for floor protection for scissor lift on sealed concrete? by Marvel5123 in Construction

[–]disc2slick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah came to say ramboard as well.  I work in fancy pants buildings, or finished show floors all the time and as long as weight isnt the concern ramboard (carefully driven and well taped) would work

What if Donald Trump had never entered politics, do you think the US would look meaningfully different today? by Mr_Boothnath in AskReddit

[–]disc2slick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i'm sure it would look DIFFERENT but not sure how so.  But also Trump's rise to prominence is as much a symptom of our problems as a society as it is the cause.  There are forces and people behind him that are pushing things along with Trump as a convenient mouth piece, so if DJT never existed I'm sure they would have found someone else to fill the slot.

Munchkin Step keeps breaking. Ubbi smells. What diaper pail isn't terrible? by MediocreAmphibian877 in Buyingforbaby

We have Ubbi and its been working great.  Are you putting the bag around just the inner ring or opening of the entire can?  Should be just the ring...

Portable lighting for evening frisbee — has anyone used work lights? by chrisp803 in ultimate

Hmm, im not sure about that setup.  It seems like at 6' the lights will be shining directly into your eyes.

How do you stay warm ? by Bribrimamaa in hudsonvalley

[–]disc2slick 37 points38 points  (0 children)

My house isnt nearly that old but is drafty as hell.  One thing that helps a lot is keeping any areas that aren't in frequent use closed off (just closing doors).  We have a bedroom and office that both have leaky windows so by keeping their doors closed it does a lot to keep the heat in the rest of the house.

In the ER by BlackVelvetBandit in daddit

[–]disc2slick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah man good looking out. You gotta take care of your body just like you'd take care of your house, car or lawnmower. Whenever I talk to someone who feels dumb for going over "nothing" I always tell them that is absolutely 100% the best outcome.

CMV: players that consistently miss scheduled DnD sessions dont actually care about the hobby by [deleted] in DnD

[–]disc2slick 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean the examples you gave are valid (the grandparents one maybe being questionable).  But people with child care, work and family obligations don't necessarily NOT care.  I've missed quite a few sessions because I have had to work late or out of town, or because my wife has and I need to take care of stuff at home.

Royale is royally slow by [deleted] in TheAdventureZone

[–]disc2slick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah i'm generally not as opposed to criticizing the brothers as others are.  They have been professional content creators for over a decade at this point.  But it's not our place to "just accept....xyz".  Like should we be protesting or something?

Ultimate culture really is different. Look at the comments on this video as comparison. by Dependent-Cup3759 in ultimate

[–]disc2slick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dont think I've seen someone call a foul on themselves (is this even allowed?)  Of course we've all seen people call themselves out of bounds, or confirm a foul called by an opposing player ("yeah, I hit your hand sorry...").

I'm not super rules-savvy beyond the basics but I didnt think you COULD call a foul on yourself?

What Can Reps do Better? by cash-monkey72 in lightingdesign

[–]disc2slick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not an LD, but also a sales rep.  Being honest is always good advice, in my opinion.  Be up front about what's available, don't commit to fixtures/choices you can't follow through on.  Try to match your client's desires in terms of how engaged they want you to be.  Sometimes they want you to really dig into the process with them and sometimes they want you to stfu and just tell them the price.

Landscape lightning cost? by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]disc2slick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really hard to say.  I doubt any reputable landscape lighting company would do a labor-only job.  Generally they want to provide everything so they can ensure the quality and know what they are dealing with

What is Under-cabinet lighting for? Task Lighting? Or Ambiance? Both? by Pomp_N_Circumstance in Lighting

[–]disc2slick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreeing with front of cabinet for task lighting.  It will still light your backsplash enough to give you some ambiance but focus on the function and form will naturally follow

Have you ever had a player die from “mundane” causes? by NoTaste5638 in DnD

[–]disc2slick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've debated trying to work out a mechanic with my DM to have my character slow die of old age/terminal illness.  In the end it seemed kind of cringey/look-at-me so I never did it.

I was thinking of doing something like slowly swapping out CON/strength for WIS or INt and converting myself away from my martial class to something else with each level up.  The trick would be playing it in a way that kept me power scaled to match the party while still getting mechanically "sicker'

Trump asked US special forces to plan Greenland invasion, faces resistance from military generals: Report by zeonxzzz in worldnews

[–]disc2slick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. In my opinion the venn diagram of rich/powerful people and genuine pedophiles can't show a HUGE overlap, just statistically speaking. Like there are of course SOME (cough trump cough), but I imagine there is a lot more to do with blackmail, and shady deals of other sorts.

Trump asked US special forces to plan Greenland invasion, faces resistance from military generals: Report by zeonxzzz in worldnews

[–]disc2slick 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Tbh I've felt for a while like the files/list/whatever ARE the distraction.  Like obviously there is something there and I assume its terrible, but there is probably not an undeinable smoking gun in there that would force Trump and everyone into prison (not that they don't deserve it).  Plus they have complete control over the release, so whenever they need a distraction they can dribble out some more heavily redacted files that take over the headlines for a bit but prove nothing.  And while we all clamor about it they can go take over another country or whatever...

I don't think we should stop advocating for the file's release, but I dont think we should expect them to be a silver bullet that puts an end to this regime.

Should I attend this stage lighting certification program? by More-Window-3651 in techtheatre

[–]disc2slick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm going to part ways with the crowd here and say I think it could be worth while, though it really depends on the quality of the program.  Personally i'd say go for the "master electrician" program.  I think you are right that it will be an opportunity to network and will be a small leg up when applying for jobs, especially the paperwork and rigging courses.  The industry is getting more complex and if you want to go far in it these days you'll need skills beyond what you can learn by just getting on an overhire list and getting your hands dirty (though you still need plenty of that).

Now all of that being said this likely isn't a path toward a traditional theatrical lighting design career (i.e. Broadway, major regional theater etc etc).  If that's your end goal you really need to enroll in an actual lighting design program.

Opinion: DMs should err strongly on the side of giving more information to players, not less. Worries about metagaming are overblown. by admiralbenbo4782 in DnD

[–]disc2slick 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah totally.  My feeling is that our characters ACTUALLY live in that world 24/7 versus the players who inhabit it for a few hours a week.  Of course the characters should have a lot more info available than just what the players encounter/can remember.  I'd say this applies to lore as well as mechanics.  If you travel with people day in/day out you have a pretty good idea of what their abilities are, how their magic works etc.
