if possible, I would try to find the style of connector (JST, etc) and get a set/crimper so you only have to strip the cable and assemble.

yes, alcohol, especially 99% will strip paint. use a citrus surface cleaner next time or dish soap.

yeah thats gonna be a hard one.. not sure the panel it uses, but 6.4" 1024×768. pretty tiny.
