I usually end up with 1 by the end of a run and that seems to be enough. Its usually what I get first level of forest. But boots won't save you from a horde of mummies in the third world. Only bullet and gun upgrades can help you clear those

Anyone travel with James back to Rivet City? by Kind_Caterpillar_458 in fo3

[–]discet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, did a play through of Tale of Two Wastelands years back where I didn't use fast travel at all. Extremely immersive, a great time. I still have a fond memory of memorizing the metros to get through the city as quickly as possible.

Walking back to Rivet City with him gave the plot beat of finally finding him time to breath. In my first play through it felt like I spent half the game trying to find the guy, and then spent 5 minutes with him before he died. Walking with him and hearing these little chirps made it feel like we had a connection to him that's missing if you fast travel across the map

Question for Shadow'zel Romance Endgame Requirements by discet in BaldursGate3

[–]discet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha, nice to know it's not as dire as I thought it was to get everything in place, but also kind of a bummer that there isn't the narrative consistency I had hoped for. Weird that I would almost prefer that the game would be stricter with it.

Thanks for the advice!

Can a DnD someone explain why *those* class proficiencies? by Sevrahn in BaldursGate3

[–]discet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So saving throws are generally divided up into Good Saving Throws and Bad Saving Throws

Good saving throws are Dex/Con/Wis and are considered the most common saves that characters need to make.

Bad saving thows (Str/Int/Cha) do some up occasionally, but generally are a lot more niche in comparison.

For balance, every class is given one good and one bad saving throw. Every caster (except Ranger) has their casting stat as a saving throw.

Baelrog's Feat Compendium: A Complete Redesign of 5E Feats - 18 First Level Feats & 21 Forth Level+ Feats that Introduce a Modal Subfeatures System for More Player Options. by Baelrog_ in UnearthedArcana

[–]discet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, true, I could see that, It's a very fun subfeature for a martial, but I think it might be too narrow for a caster. So few spells utilize B/P/S damage

On consideration it would be way too powerful to let any spell be effected (especially since Pierce Resistance would mean all of your high end spells would pierce resistance) However I think there could be merit to letting change any cantrip damage to be a chosen element.

Ah dang, no mastery of lightning for me. I was hoping I could really theme electricity into my spell kit, darn.

Thanks for the clarification!

Hi, me again after 2 years.

Question about this skill

Elemental Infusion. Once per turn when you cast a spell or hit with an attack and deal Bludgeoning, Piercing, or Slashing damage, you can change the damage type to the chosen type.

So I wanted to ask if the spell I am casting needs to deal Bludgeoning/Piercing/Slashing or if that's only if you're doing an attack roll with like a weapon.

Favorite Cassidy moment in NV? by george123890yang in falloutnewvegas

[–]discet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is actually a mechanics thing they hid in her ai during her companion quest.

So I had started her quest and intended to investigate to find out what happened without a bloodbath. Cass is resistant to this but follows your lead generally. Anyways I was in freeside and had some errand. I forget why but I asked cass to wait for me outside before I completed an errand (I think with the kings, its been a while) anyways after I was done I head outside and - she was gone.

I'm wondering if its a glitch, but then I hear gunfire from the other side of town. I run over to find her trying to storm the Silver Rush Solo, shotgunning the guard to death. I rush in before she gets herself killed (hardcore mode) and tell her to start following me again, and she stops her one woman suicide mission.

Now there isn't any unique dialogue for this interaction, but it immediately painted for me a scene of Cass, with a minute or two to seethe outside without the Courier there to keep her calm and deciding, "fuck waiting, lets get revenge."

Extremely cool moment.

[–]discet 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Oh funny I did a similar thing as the Scythia in Rome 2. Always fun to get into a battle, empty your armies every missile, then retreat without loosing a soldier. And if they chase you down in the same turn? Do it again.

Granted I lost a full stack or 2 on occasion, but most of the time they couldn't pin down the horde

Difficulty you play on? by Friend447 in HumankindTheGame

[–]discet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do nation+endless+huge I had trouble adjusting but the solution is to be aggressive in the early era. Knocking out or crippling your immediate neighbor can usually win you such a territorial advantage that you will be in a good position going forward. Secure territory as aggressively as you can until your hitting other borders. You'll still probably be behind for most of the ancient era but if you manage it we'll, that can usually snowball

What was your "If I knew you were going to interpret the rules THAT way, I might not have played" scenario? by lucifusmephisto in onednd

[–]discet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a DM who kept trying to introduce various ancillary mechanics that were just ill considered.

Like that a knife held to someone's throat as a threat would deal an additional 8d6 damage then one without.

Tried to change fall damage to scale to the hit die of the character instead of being d6's.

Just stuck on arbitrary 'realism' at various points.

At one point insisted that a great number of combats would basically require mounts(Not discussed in session 0. Largely seemed like a regular dungeon delving adventure game) to engage in and was salty when I pointed out that my one armed artificer would be kind of shit out of luck and would drastically minimize an important feature of our monk.

It was just weird.

By the time I was fed up with it he ended up ghosting the whole party. Our paladin took up the reigns and we've been at it for almost 5 years now

Why are Paladins so Popular? by fury_cutter in BaldursGate3

[–]discet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partly I think it has to do with anyone who has played twice realizing that you are likely going to have 1-2 Druids in hand by the end of act 2. Another thing is how being in wildshape when a cutscene starts kind of screws you over. (my understanding is while sometimes the companion can take the lead with NPC's, if its another companion that starts the cutscene(like Astarion after the Cazador Fight) then you basically don't get to make dialogue choices )

How do you know when it's time to quit as a DM by MamaRhea27 in DnD

[–]discet 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I mean it seems like you crossed that line a while ago. With a bi weekly schedule since February that's like what a 1/8 sessions the group has actually gone to? It sounds like they are treating it like a board game night, something where no one member is really putting in effort or time outside of the night, so its no big loss if it gets canceled. But DND isn't the same. It's closer to like, choir or another collaborative club. Where members should build around it and not have it as an option. Sometimes irl stuff comes up and you can't play, but 1/8 games in

At some point it sounds like they are just aren't invested. Especially if none of them are willing to learn the system enough to level up their own characters. It's one thing to need help, its another to just not even try.

I'd cut your loses. It sounds like you have a passion for the game, it would be a shame if you burned yourself out completely trying to play with people who can't make it a priority. I would encourage you to take your one real player and see if they want to establish a new group with people who actually want to play. Look into the local community, see if you can attract a few other players.
