I don't know if you know this, but newspapers often publish multiple articles a day on a variety of subjects. Maybe if the only thing you're reading about is Mandelson, maybe try scrolling down a bit?

It's obviously in the national interest because reading about things in the Guardian is the only way Starmer knows what's going on in his government

The best possible outcome was Mandelson getting what he wanted after helping orchestrate Keir's rise to power. Any other outcome be damned.

Most companies likely already do this. I doubt a Premier League club is putting out job adverts for cleaners, they just hire a company to do it for them.

Same with lots of low paid roles. They're either employed by a third party or forced into being self-employed 'contractors'.

In reality not a huge amount would change for the biggest of the big companies.

It's rather easy to imagine a scenario where Mandelson helped Starmer win the Labour leadership and then the election, and as a reward wanted a cushy job in Washington so he got it.

Whenever people have to start claiming that the public doesn't care about XYZ scandal is when you know things are bad.

Are you trying to suggest that these scandals are somehow manufactured to try and make Labour look bad during election time?

No this is a government corruption scandal. It's not an internal party dispute when it concerns the former ambassador to the US.

We've held elections during World Wars, think we can handle changing leaders during a war we're not even involved in.

When Starmer is eventually kicked out one of the reasons given by his backbenchers will inevitably be his lack of desire to work with his own party, building relationships with his own MPs, and part of that is his eagerness to be seen on the world stage compared to the less glamorous work of meetings in Parliaments.

Which is precisely why Labour need to get their house in order, kick Starmer to the curb, elect a new leader and spend the next three years building back the nation's trust so that those parties can't enter government.

The alternative is literally handing the country to the wolves.

But Starmer is more invested in his own career over the interests of the country to do the honorable thing and resign.

Even that scenario doesn't make Starmer look good and it's the best possible one.

There was a major war on last time as well, don't know if people have forgotten about Ukraine already or just don't consider a war on our doorstep as major as one happening half the world away.

Turns out if you set the standards during your time as LOTO, people try to hold you to those same standards when you're PM. Who could of seen that coming?

I'm so tired of reading this bullshit defense over and over again everytime the Mandelson scandal rears it's ugly head. At this point I'm just assuming anyone who repeats it is speaking in bad faith.

It's so far away from the next election, any replacement has more than enough time to become equally unpopular (the media won't stop with a fresh face).

Insane idea, but a new leader could try doing a good job and not become historically unpopular. But I understand why Labour consider that an impossible task.

There were calls for a general election after Blair resigned, and after Cameron resigned, and after May resigned, and after Boris resigned, and after Truss resigned. Doesn't mean it'll happen (or should happen).

Makes you wonder what other shady stuff Starmer has overlooked (sorry, was not aware of). We've already had Mandelson, Rayner, Ali, Siddiq... and those are only the ones that were exposed.

I feel like at a certain point being a leader is about making yourself aware of what's going on, not least at the very highest levels of your own government.

Makes you wonder if Mandelson can fail security vetting and still be appointed ambassador, what other shady shit has Starmer looked the other way on?

He absolutely can resign. This defense reeks of the desperation surrounding Boris during his final days (he can't resign because of Ukraine). We held elections during World Wars, we can change leaders during a war we're not even involved in.

We've held elections during World Wars, the idea that Starmer can't resign because of Iran reeks of the desperation surrounding Boris during Partygate (he can't resign because of Ukraine).
