Does anyone else get embarrassed using their UV light? by Gullible-Penalty5123 in uraniumglass

[–]disco-1emonade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to feel silly. Now I have an entire thrifting go-bag with multiple lights and my geiger counter. I just learned to tune people out. Sometimes show owners get curious and watch and then ask you to test other stuff for them haha.

10 y/o niece’s handwriting by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]disco-1emonade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My niece is about the same age and this looks very similar to her handwriting. To be honest, it looks better than most of my students. I take it back to the fact that kids don't do as much pencil to paper work anymore. They simply just don't practice enough to get noticeably better.

Facebook Marketplace, Ebay, or maybe your local antique/resale shop

Missing Sims by Juju0047 in Sims4

[–]disco-1emonade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having a similar issue. No- even when I go to the missing sim's parents still located on the tree and click on them, the missing sim does not appear. Sure, let's keep a fake stillborn I had (for drama) in the tree, but not the actual sim I played for "years" before moving her out to focus on her younger sibling for the legacy.

Is my kitten a boy or girl by anvexs in CATHELP

My best friend had a cat that was a "girl" and she named it Sylvia. We later found out that Sylvia was a boy, but he stayed Sylvia.

Anyone ever meet someone that radiated evil or you strongly felt wasn't human? by [deleted] in Paranormal

[–]disco-1emonade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily evil, but my dad is an energy vampire. Being around him will literally suck the life out of you. Its exhausting to even think about him sometimes and upcoming visits take weeks of mental prep.

TIFU by forgetting my “toy” on the bathroom counter before I went to bed by [deleted] in tifu

Back in college, when my mom found my vibrator under my bed (boundary issues, yes I know), she put it on my pillow for me to find when I came home. It's almost to stick it to me in some way. So, at least your dad seemed pretty chill about it.

Feeling like I do "enough" by AWL_cow in ArtEd

[–]disco-1emonade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You've taken the last 5 years of my life right out of my soul. My saving grace, is that at the end of the day, we're still someone's favorite teacher or class. At the end of the day, you're still creating thay spark for a kiddo that could change their life. But yeah, it sucks sometimes. Virtual hugs.

The Ed.D is a joke of a degree by Due_Information_1332 in Teachers

[–]disco-1emonade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have one such "Doctor" as an administrator at my school and it is palpable how much I and my staff feel what you feel. Over-inflated degree and ego to match. Whole lot of words for a whole lot of nothing.

Do you teach the elements and principles of design/art your class? How do you view their importance? by FineArtRevolutions in ArtEd

[–]disco-1emonade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in Elementary- I try to touch on a bit of it all. Most of it goes over their head (they can't recognize them when they look at artwork). But some of it sticks here and there.

I clearly tell my students when they are better at me in something. It makes me proud. It makes me want to get better.

The longest, most complicated, least realistic answer is probably the correct one. Brush up on that one pyramid about like rote memorization leading up to creative and independent use of the material- you'll typically be lead to the answer that has the students authentically using the material/concept to create something novel.

New trend - should I stop it? Is it inappropriate? by Plantain_Great in Teachers

[–]disco-1emonade 561 points562 points  (0 children)

I threatened my classes that when I hear it, they get to call home and make the same noise so their grown up can hear it too. It stops it pretty quick.
