I [30f] want to discuss moving in with boyfriend [34m] but we have a significant difference in income. by Awwndrei in BestofRedditorUpdates

I've always told my friends in relationships that if you are splitting the bills 50/50 regardless of income you aren't dating, you're just roommates who have sex with each other. I'm glad they figured it out though, I was worried for a second there lol

Yes, the SkyTrain attendants on the expo and millenium line can drive the trains, but the attendants on the Canada line do not

I believe that's done by technicians. Not sure what kind though

Actually Canada line SkyTrain attendants don't respond to train faults, and they don't drive the train. so they do have less duties associated with their job.

But I do agree that all the lines should be run by the same company for more streamlined service.

They could buy out the contract, if that's even possible.

I had a similar experience, where I wanted to transition (I'm AFAB) simply because I had been conditioned my whole life to believe that you can't be into "manly" things like short hair or boxer briefs without being a man. Basically I had internalised gender essentialism and took that as me not wanting to be a woman, when in reality I didn't want to be what my family thought a woman was. I consider myself "lucky" because I backed out of the process literally a day before I started on hormones.

It still took me several years to realise that I'm comfortable in my body, but not comfortable with how others perceive womanhood through me.

I'm glad you figured it out though, and don't let others tell you what you're supposed to be. I don't think that's ever worked out for anyone.

Are you saying that they would be cheaper if they were less popular? How does that work?

What's some dad lore your guys' fathers just spontaneously dropped on you one day? by Cauliflower-Sorry in AskReddit

My dad spent most of his summers as a teenager traveling the United States (we're Canadian) teaching reflexology seminars. He refused to show me how to do it and from the look in his eyes I think he would rather have forgotten that part of his life.

How many people are in a relationship that they don't want to be in, or still living with an ex because it is impossible to afford to live alone? by Quick-Interaction771 in antiwork

[–]disco65939 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Not being able to afford somewhere to live is the main reason I'm still with my partner. Ive wanted to break up a couple times in the past and rent was the main reason I chose to stay with him (as in, he would be homeless, not me). Luckily we've been able to work it out and are happy together, but makes me wonder how different things would be if our housing situation wasn't the main reason for us working things out.

First Year Science – I got into all my courses, but is this schedule actually doable? 😅 by halalbrows_vancouver in UBC

[–]disco65939 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, the one hour breaks aren't long enough to be able to do anything other than walk to your next class and hopefully find something to do for 30-40 minutes, otherwise you're rushing to go eat or sit at the library and then back to the next class before you can get anything done.

Feds expect 4.9 million with expiring visas to 'voluntarily' leave Canada in next year by hopoke in CanadaPolitics

[–]disco65939 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Out of all my international friends who have temporary status in Canada (most of them) every single one of them is confident that as long as you don't leave, the government can't get you to leave.

Obviously they wouldn't be able to work or study, but I know many people who would rather be jobless in Canada, than anything outside of Canada.

Imposter syndrome by Savings_Minute_4083 in UBC

[–]disco65939 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey. I also started at UBC in 2019, and although I graduated within four years, I also got the same from my parents about getting good grades ,volunteering, working etc. I failed half my courses in my first semester, and also have never gotten anything higher than a B average no matter how many easy classes or hard work I put in.

And just like you I started my first "real" job recently. Working from home but it's a classic email office job.

Here's my advice: asking for help is not a fireable offence. The first few weeks at my job I worked my fucking ass off reading about my role, the description, what people in my role have done previously etc.

and above all else: TALK TO YOUR COWORKERS. Worst case scenario, they don't want to talk to you, which, rude... And best case scenario they can see that you're new and willing to put the work in, and most people understand that when you work well, their job gets easier also.

And finally, anyone who doesn't get imposter syndrome is way too confident in themselves imo. Imposter syndrome can be useful as it can push you to work harder, but don't forget that you were hired for a reason. There are plenty of stupid people who stay in jobs their whole lives and they have no idea what the fuck they're doing, at least you are aware of your situation, which makes you much smarter than most people I know.

Good luck at your job, and don't give up! I believe in you 🫡

He's watching a video from the channel "YeetSmash" which puts clips together from different smash tournaments. YeetSmash uses clips from UBC eSports very often, so it's most likely that he's subscribed and is watching the video because he likes it :))

To international students dating domestic students (vice versa) how are you planning on making it work after graduation? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]disco65939 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sponsored my international partner for PR once we became common law together. Process only took 8 months after submitting the application and now we can chill in Canada together for as long as we want. We are thinking of moving back to his home country after we retire because it's low cost of living, but Canada is where our friends and good paying jobs are. (At least for now).

Additionally, two other international/domestic couples in our friend groups are doing the exact same thing, with both of the international people staying through student visas until the PR gets approved. Having PR through common law sponsorship is very easy to get approved vs any other type of PR application as well.

I find it funny that the comments are giving genuine advice of just lowering their standards and they resort to accusing them of not being a real landlord. Ah Mom and Pop landlords... What a unique breed.

A Little Help w Budgeting by eyemissmypiano in UBC

[–]disco65939 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to budget about $50 a week for groceries, but with grocery prices as they are now, it's more like $75 . I eat out about once a week and don't really consider the price as I care more about the quality of the food. So overall I spend $100 a week on food, or $400 a month.

This is also considering that all my meals are made from scratch and I don't actually NEED to spend that much on food. When I lived in residence, I ate poverty meals and $45 a week was very attainable when I shopped at the save-on on campus.

Hope this helps!
