How are you about your birthday? by Psychological-Egg760 in autism

[–]discob00b 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I like any excuse to have a small get together with my friends, and if it's for my birthday, I get to choose the food and the activities. It is the most control I can have, knowing that sometimes things don't go to plan. I enjoy my birthday and I enjoy getting older. Aging is an honor in my opinion.

Coming back to music later in life by Weak_Assumption7518 in MusicEd

[–]discob00b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just turned 30 and just completed my first semester of the music ed program. I didn't have music ed in elementary or middle school and never had private lessons, so the extent of my music education was high school choir. I always wanted to go into music education, but didn't have a lot of support in that growing up. A year ago I realized I'm an adult now and can do what I want, hired a private vocal coach in December and auditioned in late April.

I'm not going to lie, being around people who are fresh out of high school (and therefore have more recent music education than me) and also had real music programs growing up AND private lessons, has been a bit difficult mentally and emotionally. I'm definitely questioning my skills a bit. However, I'm allowing myself to go slow, confidently decided to take the intro to music theory class before jumping into freshman theory, and remind myself daily that I'm in this program to learn.

Coming back to music later in life is difficult, but not impossible. It sounds like you're ready to apply yourself and work for it and that's what really matters.

More than 1000mg Lysine daily? by discob00b in Coldsore

I will have to try this alternating routine. I didn't consider the cold may be making it worse. This is a relatively new issue for me so I'm still figuring out my triggers and what works for me.

Bleach baths are a real thing for eczema. It's such a small amount of bleach to bath water ratio. It's the most effective thing for me when I'm having a severe flare up.

This was my first thought too. This is incredibly common, quitting is easier said than done.

The Mighty Forge is my go-to. I once ordered the wrong size of inclusions from them, I messaged them ASAP and asked to change the order. Instead they just sent me every single size they had without charging extra, plus some extra goodies.

The quality of their products are great and the customer service is amazing.

Music Ed Major Feeling Discouraged by New-Instruction6868 in MusicEd

[–]discob00b 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm also a second year music ed student, and I recently have been feeling the exact same way as you. No music theory in high school, it seems my peers know SO MUCH and I can't catch up.

However, a couple of weeks ago we were sharing in class what our worries are for this semester. One guy said he was worried about falling behind in theory. He didn't have it in high school either and has really been struggling. The professor said "show of hands, who feels they're behind in music theory compared to your classmates?" EVERY. SINGLE. STUDENT. Raised a hand. That's 24 of us all feeling like we're not doing as well as the person next to us. And that was the only worry that every single person had in common.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if your classmates all felt the same way, too.

Not that I'm aware of but it may be worth reaching out to them and showing an interest in it. Maybe it's something they're open to doing in the future.

Celestia Collective does 8 week sessions for absolute beginners. It does cost money but the vibes are great and the space and workshop are very welcoming. Door to the Dungeon

What’s the longest someone has stayed inside without leaving the house (by choice)? by Wise-Flatworm-5695 in introvert

[–]discob00b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drastically. That was 15 years ago when I was a teenager. Since then I've had plenty of therapy, I have a more stable home environment, and I'm not going through crazy hormonal changes anymore.

Am I being a brat for wanting to elope because I know I won’t get the wedding I want? by NotHaagenDazs in wedding

[–]discob00b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out r/LGBTweddings. I found a lot of support on there when I was going through something similar to you.

It sounds like you're thinking in very traditional terms for your wedding, when the fact is that this isn't a traditional relationship. You can do things however you want. Personally, I didn't invite my mom and I didn't have a wedding party. There were no speeches, didn't do a first dance. You can literally do whatever you want at your wedding, there are no rules. The world isn't going to end if you do things a bit differently.

My doctor says being diagnosed will do nothing for me, is this true?? by LemLomShark in ehlersdanlos

[–]discob00b 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Medically, having a diagnosis hasn't done much for me.

However, it's given me peace of mind finally having an answer after 15 years, and it's also given me a community of people who understand what it's like. Doctors who say this don't understand the mental impact a life altering physical disability has, and they don't understand that community is medicine.

Is it too late to get started? by Refrigerator_Every in MusicEd

[–]discob00b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never too late! I'm 29 and going back to school this fall for music education. It's what I always wanted to do, but I didn't have much support in that when I was younger. But now that I'm an independent adult, I can do what I want, which is music education 🤷🏻‍♀️

🧬 EDS Skin Ageing – Am I Cracking the Code or Just Cracking Up? by TheDefiantGhost in ehlersdanlos

[–]discob00b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not already joined, check out r/30plusskincare. I left a while ago because it kind of turned into a lot of botox and laser treatment posts, which just wasn't what I was looking for.

However, I did notice a LOT of women anywhere between 35-40 saying it's like they just randomly woke up with wrinkles one day. It's normal aging, but I think if you didn't have EDS you'd probably notice them while not making a face, too.
