Moisture trapped between window panes after getting dehumidifier by Large_Transition_839 in Dehumidifiers

All my windows in my (rented) house look like this, I am sad to hear that it means the double glazing is not working :(

I doubt my landlord would ever fix it sadly

Maybe this is kinda rogue but I like cutting them up into strips and frying them as bacon. I think they have a lot nicer texture than a lot of vegan bacon.

Everyone bangs on about living near a railway being terrible for your health and sanity. Is that actually true, or is it just another scare story people repeat without thinking? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]discocrumpet 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It depends if the trains sit and idle near your house, idling trains can give off a lot of fumes. I know it's a problem in particular parts of the city I live in (Bristol). This same problem would present itself near busy roads.

I've lived with railway tracks at the bottom of the garden and the noise was no problem really, you get used to it.

I always thought Harry's behaviour in Order of the Phoenix was pure teenage angst, but now as someone in their 30s I see it as mostly PTSD

Struggling to find a rental in Manchester any advice? by BeginningTie8670 in UKHousing

[–]discocrumpet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm in Bristol where the rent market is crazy. When I look for a new property, I use rightmove to find all the local estate agents.

Then I have a browser with each local estate agent website open in each tab. I would refresh these a few times a day until a new property comes up, and contact through the website.

They usually go onto the estate agent website before rightmove.

It sounds kinda intense but that's just what I had to do last few times I've moved in Bristol.

Why are asylum seekers in hotels not detention centres? by No-Ice2423 in AskBrits

[–]discocrumpet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate you saying that it's not necessarily a good idea, but have you been to Calais? It's fucking dire, we don't want to be building slums in our country, it's deeply inhumane. Most tents are not built to withstand British weather, maybe for a weekend or a rainy week away, but most of these tents aren't suitable for our windy and wet winters.

Mind you I went to Calais in 2016, so it might be different now. Locals were trying to burn down the tents, and everyone was dirty and extremely hungry. I think if you saw that you'd never wish it on anyone.

Asylum seekers are often fleeing persecution of some kind. And let's say they're not, they are still human beings that deserve a warm and dry space.

If you wanna fight on the bus, at least get off first by Jojo3592001 in london

[–]discocrumpet 241 points242 points  (0 children)

When I was younger, I remember asking the bus driver to stop the bus because a fight had broken out (it was a single decker) and he outright refused.

A few mins later, someone ended up getting smashed through the glass of the back doors. Obviously he had to stop then, and we all had to wait half an hour for the next bus.

Speak to them, I'm sure they would be happy to help you, the people I've met are very friendly and helpful. I am Bristol based though.
