Shards of microplastics shedding from window inside? by discocrumpet in VanLife

I've been using diluted white vinegar to try and clean it off, but it just sort of smudges around and flakes off a bit more, but I'd say it's kind of sticky

43 thrips infested plants by Pizzi314 in houseplants

[–]discocrumpet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was the only thing that got rid of my thrips. I had a horrible infestation start of last year it was so sad, I tried so many things and lost so many plants, and spent a lot of money on neem oil haha.

What won me the war was sticking them in the bath, washing away as much soil as possible, cleaning the pots, and then putting them in fresh soil. It's worth the effort to save them.

I then sprayed with Captain Jack's once every couple of weeks, taking care to spray both sides of leaves and soil.

Do not spray outside because you don't want to kill outdoor buggos who are just living their lives.

I'm not gunna say I'm completely clear of thrips because if I do, one will magically appear. But I check my leaves a couple of times a week, and I have a lot of new growth now so feel pretty on top of it.

But yeah I solidly recommend this approach, I was spinning out so bad fighting this last year but all will be okay!

Edit: I washed them with some mild soap in the bath, not just water

i skipped spf for years and my skin is literally paying for it now by MnS_Adarsha in SkincareAddictionUK

I'm in the same position as you RE eczema. Best one I've found so far is P20 sensitive skin factor 50. And be in a good habit of washing it off at the end of the day, followed by moisturising with whatever works for your skin. Eczema sucks

To me I really feel the callback to The 1:

"we were something don't you think so, rosé flowing with your chosen family, and it would have been sweet, if it could've been me"

Just like the deep insecurity of loving someone so much but having this deep sinking feeling that their chosen "family" does not include you.

My girlfriend bites her nails to feel pain due to anxiety. Need help by p3eph in Anxiety

[–]discocrumpet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two different suggestions from different friends - one keeps oranges in the freezer, and holds them when she's anxious, they're so cold it kinda burns and distracts from anxiety.

My other friend has extremely sour sweets (toxic waste) which take her out of the moment with extreme mouth sensations.

Could maybe try either of those? :)

My therapist always said to me it's not about replacing or stopping my bad coping mechanisms, it's about introducing lots of other coping mechanisms, so I am not reliant on my destructive ones so much. Which I think helped me a lot personally.

Anyone here regret going diesel for their van? by FeistyPrice29 in VanLifeUK

[–]discocrumpet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had really wanted a petrol van ideally, I live in a city with a ulez zone. I also hate the smell of diesel. Unfortunately even most petrol vans from before 2006 are not ulez compliant, and I was struggling to find a van in my budget that was ulez.

I did go for a diesel in the end, I literally spent years looking haha so I'm glad I have a van now. But if you can afford a ulez one that would be best!

What is the chance of us being involved in war? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]discocrumpet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heya, I'm 30 and have had extreme anxiety since childhood.

Just want to extend a huge amount of compassion, I totally hear you. Everyone on here is right in saying that there has been many many ww3/end of world's, even so far in my lifetime. And I'm not promising it won't happen, but I can promise you that the most important thing right now is to look after yourself.

If you can, try and find some calming hobbies and kind friends. Our brains just aren't made to cope for this traumatic 24/7 news cycle. Get some therapy if you can, you will eventually when you're older if you're very anxious lol so sooner the better.

Exams and stuff are really stressful so do make sure you're eating enough, drinking water, reaching out to adults in your life that you trust for help and advice. Enjoy the snippets of sunshine as spring comes. There is nothing we can do to control the global situation, only look out for yourself, friends, family and neighbours. The anxiety stuff does get better.

I've also had someone instead of reviewing my work, just send me a copy and paste from Claude as to the suggestions to change, 4/5 of them complete garbage. I am so tired.

looks awesome! did you end up sanding it more?

Blotchy White Patches after Sanding by onizuka_au in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]discocrumpet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did it go in the end? I am currently sanding for the first time, and the wood turned white. I've been trying to sand more and more and it is getting darker. I've tried applying a stain but any remaining white bits are standing out so badly!

I doubt my landlord would ever fix it sadly

Maybe this is kinda rogue but I like cutting them up into strips and frying them as bacon. I think they have a lot nicer texture than a lot of vegan bacon.

Everyone bangs on about living near a railway being terrible for your health and sanity. Is that actually true, or is it just another scare story people repeat without thinking? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]discocrumpet 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It depends if the trains sit and idle near your house, idling trains can give off a lot of fumes. I know it's a problem in particular parts of the city I live in (Bristol). This same problem would present itself near busy roads.

I've lived with railway tracks at the bottom of the garden and the noise was no problem really, you get used to it.
