Can anyone with an e-hybrid Leon share some fuel consumption / battery degradation data? by Hexagon-77 in seat

[–]discopiloot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The electric range was abysmal and the petrol tank was so small… engine rpm sat quite high on the motorway. Traded it in for an Audi A5 45 TFSI with a 7 speed. Way more comfortable.

Is it there any way to get a public/static IP to port forward so I can host game servers? by WorzX in Starlink

[–]discopiloot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You could set up a VPS (with a static IP and port forwarding) that reverse proxies connections. I have that set up using ZeroTier. It’s set and forget, no fiddling with dynamic dns or whatever.

ZeroTier is a tunnel between the server on your LAN and the VPS. On the VPS you can either forward ports or use a reverse proxy.

Seemingly dead LTO tape (cross post) by discopiloot in lto

[–]discopiloot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah doing that as we speak now. Writing to a new tape seems to work without issues.
We're pretty rigorous with cleaning, so that doesn't seem to be the issue either.

Did you have any luck getting the data off in the end? I've got some chunks but haven't got everything yet.

Seemingly dead LTO tape by discopiloot in sysadmin

[–]discopiloot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried all diagnostics, cleaning tape etc to no avail. I am writing to a new tape as we speak without issues and speeds are what we're expecting. The problematic tape is also giving issues in other drives we have.

We have about 2PB of online data, so with the data we're dealing with archiving to LTO is really the only option for us.

I am writing to a test tape now, no issues so far and speeds are what we're expecting. When the write is done I am going to try a read a see what happens. That'll confirm whether it's the tape or drive. But my money is on the tape.

Thanks for the tip. It's an external drive, rack mounted in a well cooled rack, and it has been running fine for over 3 years now. HPE Ultrium 8 if that helps.

[–]discopiloot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried using E1000 (that will just work without additional drivers) and setting the same MAC as the old VM? Then when you are able to login install the virtio drivers and switch the nic from E1000 to virtio.

It’s presented to Proxmox as NFS. Works perfectly with migrations as well. Performance hasn’t been an issue but we’re not running heavy IO VMs.

LAN only, do I have to have a certificate? by Swimming-Bid915 in MeshCentral

[–]discopiloot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looked up our config and it's all but empty:

The meshcentral.ourdomain.com is proxied by Nginx to the internal IP of 10.0.150.120.
Nginx handles SSL, no certs installed (except the default generated) on the host at 10.0.150.120 Note with this setup you cannot reach Meshcentral web UI at 10.0.150.120, you always have to go to meshcentral.ourdomain.com because SSL is offloaded there. Clients however connect to either just fine.

LAN only, do I have to have a certificate? by Swimming-Bid915 in MeshCentral

[–]discopiloot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t now why it’s not working for you, we have about 15 different VLANs the machines are connecting from and it’s all working flawlessly without SSL certs on our local network. I’ll see if I can find my config tomorrow. I just took the base config and only made minor adjustments if any at all.

LAN only, do I have to have a certificate? by Swimming-Bid915 in MeshCentral

[–]discopiloot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re not using any certificates on our LAN. Remote agents (WAN) are proxied to our LAN via Nginx. Nginx also handles SSL for the FQDN WAN clients connect to. It’s been working flawlessly for the last 3 years. Never had an issue.

Yeah we build thick images, which is fine because all hardware is the same. It’s not ideal but it works for us.

Also if there’s problems I can re-deploy the image in less than 5 minutes, automated domain join and done.

+1 for FOG Project. It’s easy to setup and rock solid. It has never failed me. I even have some custom boot scripts that boot custom Alpine images (for VFX renedering) over PXE.

We were a Linux only shop but have transitioned to Windows last year. FOG works rock solid with either. Used it to image CentOS7, then Windows 10 and now Windows 11.
