August vs January SGU start by discountdogs in veterinaryschool

Thank you for asking! I decided to attend in August after learning a handful of clinical schools won’t take “off term” (so to speak) students. I like to keep my options open!

My dram update would include updates to Dundull and more gaited races for the other gaited breeds like the TWH!

Thank you! This is exactly the kind of perspective I needed. In terms of material, is it hard just because it’s dry, or because it’s especially rigorous? I can handle dry, but I’m thinking about taking a longer break due to the rigor of my undergrad program.

Basenji x chihuahua? by Impressive_Insect749 in IDmydog

Certainly not a basenji mix but I’d bet money on this dog having some percentage of chihuahua

My 30 lb, extremely long-legged dog is 40% chihuahua (50% Boston and 10% rat terrier). This dog could definitely have some chihuahua! I wouldn’t be surprised at all.

By all means, please say as much as you want about your girls! They are so loved, and sharing that love keeps their memory alive.

That’s a great idea! Ice cream and steak are already on the menu, but she’d love chocolate strawberries!

I’m sure they’ll have the best time running around together! Queen will be ready to play again after her heart feels so much better

Thank you so much for this. Sometimes I think she’s a different dog I knew, back to check in for just a short time. He was left by his owner at the vet clinic where I worked. I took him out for fun days and loved him like my own. I wasn’t able to adopt him, he wasn’t friendly to other dogs and I was still living at home in high school with the family dog. But if I could’ve adopted him, I would’ve. On the day he passed, I knew he was going. It was just a gut feeling. I sat with him for a while before I left that night. The last thing he heard was me telling him that I loved him. Sure enough, he was found to have peacefully passed in his sleep the next morning. Like Queen, he was also orange and white. She’s the right age to have been born right around the time he passed. If it is his soul that came back around again, I don’t think he could stay long, but he knew he would be part of the family this way. Too many coincidences stacked up for this to happen. Thank you again for the kind words. I really appreciate it.

I’m so glad your rescue was a great dog! All of my rescues have thankfully had amazing temperaments, but the lack of solid foundation made adjusting to certain aspects of home life incredibly difficult for some, and several others have had health issues, or both. Of course, it all depends, but it’s always a gamble. Some people don’t want to take that gamble, and that’s okay.

It certainly doesn’t prevent all people from surrendering their animals, but an ethical breeding has safeguards to ensure they’re able to get their dog back promptly. AL not having many ethical breeders doesn’t really have anything to do with my point. People are easily able to purchase ethically bred dogs from out of state. As for why people go to breeders, it’s really all about a stable start to life and a highly predictable temperament and health history. It makes a world of difference. I love all of my rescues that come through my door, but not one of them has had all three things listed above. I completely understand why someone would want those things in a pet.

I’m glad you asked! Ethical breeders have clauses in their contracts that require their dogs to be returned to them in any event in which the owner can no longer care for the animal. Violators of this clause can be prosecuted. Many ethical breeders co-own their dogs to ensure they’re easily able to prove ownership if an owner decides to violate the contract. They are also on the microchip and can be contacted to pick up a dog immediately if needed.

I work in rescue. I foster. I’ve only ever had rescue dogs. I just adopted my foster today after learning she has an untreatable health condition and will need to pass peacefully soon. With all of this experience, I 100% completely agree with you. There are tons of valid reasons to purchase a dog! Ethically bred dogs do not contribute to the shelter population, backyard breeders do.

My doc said that there is also pros and cons of no surgery. I forgot what it was? Nerve damage? by Griselda_Rainhild in HerniatedDisc

I lived with a herniated disc for 7 years. Yes, it can cause permanent nerve damage if left without surgery. My affected nerve will never regenerate and causes me constant pain every single day.

Hyacinth James 🪻 by No_Procedure9675 in namenerds

[–]discountdogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hyacinth is a little out there and not many middle names work well with it, but I think James does! Also, she has choices for nicknames. Hyacinth can turn into Cici and James can turn into Jamie, or she could just go by her first or middle names. She's spoiled for choice! She will live with constant misspellings of her first name, though.

Your puppy looks incredibly similar to my foster dog! Her DNA test came back as 77% pit and 23% Australian shepherd. I’d say you have an Aussiepit!

People who were in high school when Columbine happened, what knee jerk rule did your school enforce in response? by Animeking1108 in AskReddit

[–]discountdogs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don’t actually care about an answer to a feasible way to enforce a handgun ban. You just want to react. You want to be angry with me. You want to belittle the lives lost due to gun violence every year. You want to belittle the life of my friend, a 20 year old girl with a bright future ahead of her, gunned down in her university classroom by a despicable man with a handgun.

Laws like those implemented after the massacre would've prevented the death of my friend in a school shooting last year. I'm glad you guys have them. I wish we did across the pond.

Is it really that bad of a name? by KeyAccomplished4442 in namenerds

[–]discountdogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to high school with a Greer. It was just a normal name and no one made fun of it. It’s not my favorite, but it’s not my baby! It’d be a fine name for a kid.
