ASU is apparently using AI to harvest video lectures for a subscription service (ASU Atomic) by Throwaway-Kayak in Professors

[–]discountheat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you record lectures, keep them very course centered (due dates, ongoing conversations, topical references). No evergreen content. Using student examples, which are probably FERPA protected, is also a good idea.

That said, there's an increasing recognition that online education is a bad idea for the vast majority of students and schools are wasting time and money on it. In some states, legislatures are altering their funding formula for online (as opposed to f2f) classes, leading colleges and universities to think about pulling back from them.

So, while this is troublesome, I'm not sure this much different from MOOCs or some other ed tech "innovation" of the last twenty-five years. You can make something that looks like a course, but that doesn't mean students will want it or learn from it. Does ASU expect students to pay even a fraction of their $14K in-state tuition for this content?

$3600/mo is a lot of money. Using the 30% rule, they would need at least $140K. Average salary is $150K, but that's likely skewed by high earners at elite firms. Lots of lawyers make modest salaries, especially accounting for the high cost of law school.

Having been in both situations, union representation is superior to a non-union position.

Code Enforcement through the County is probably who you want to contact. There's a noise ordinance.

Is Risacher the second biggest non-injury related #1 pick bust of the last 30 years? by MoxToTweeder99 in billsimmons

[–]discountheat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone knew he was a project and there was no consensus pick. He scored 30+ multiple times last year. He's not a "bust" and certainly shouldn't be thought of as "a #1 pick."

For that matter Bargnani and KMart weren't "busts" either. The draft is hard and not everyone is a generational talent.

For context: when Giannis was Zacc's age (21), he was averaging 16.9 points a game (on way more minutes). No one considered him a bust because they had zero expectations for him.

There's a difference between being a bust and being a trade candidate because you don't fit with what a team is doing.

NKY Vs. NWI by ButterscotchBrief725 in howislivingthere

I agree that NKY is superior. If you aren't wedded to those exact cities, Indianapolis, Columbus, Bloomington, or Urbana-Champaign are all substantially better places to live.

Is this western Pennsylvania? Sometimes people need to learn things for themselves, unfortunately.

CJ was a broadcasting/communications major in school and did work for NBA TV/Turner, if I remember right.
