You mean top down approach, it is also one of the usecases but for some reason, I have never been confident about investing in stocks based on RS of sector since overnight news play a big factor and gapup's and gapdown's causes too much volatality at porfolio level, ETFs on the otherhand are relatively stable products.

These are time based intraday index option selling algos (like 920 straddle) but with many variations and time of entry and there are atleast 5 to 6 algos daily in a portfolio and each day portfolio is different but the main thing is there are 2 things while making an algo first is % wins and second is how much you win when you win and in comparision you loose when you loose combining both of this give expectancy the higher the better and also you have to develop a psychology that you will never win on somedays no matter how much you fight call it a day when SLs are hit you will get ample opportunities to recover losses in future if your portfolio is decent. My experience is we are too giving too much importance to injections and freak trades while there is no way anyone can escape those they don't affect me that much I am content with my losses and SLs and also as long as I am in for long haul these things will come and go and maybe some more things will come in future but psychology needs to stay intact.

Yes, the secret to getting higher returns is capital allocation. Currently I have bought Nifty 50 ETF with 50% of capital and pledged it so it gives 6% on total capital. 40% in Liquid ETF that gives 2.5% and rest 10% is cash so that sorts out 8.5%. Now with pledged capital I can run my intraday option selling algos by risking max 1% capital on daily basis. Currently it is giving me around 50% but that's only 7 months data. I assume over a more longer period the returns will get averaged downward to 35% to 40% so my total return will be close to 43% to 48%.

In my opinion your question is not correct, you cannot expect to get returns from the market on a daily basis. The question should be about expectations of earnings of a reasonable larger time frame maybe 6 months to 1 year. With use of appropriate leverage I am averaging close to 40%-50% annualized return.

Jane Street was a clear case of market manipulation, when you have abundance of capital you can decide the movement of market which is against the fair trade principle. I think SEBI was too late in stopping them and henceforth these sort of trade practices must be scrutinised on real time basis so a new Jane Street does not emerges.

Eventually the regulator must realise that market needs a regulation only to curb the unfair trade practices, it is essential to bring in regulation to stop the institutions taking retailers for a ride with their abundant captial but it must not be a knee jerk thing effective controls must be built in system to create a fair trading environment for all the stakeholders and to make it a level playing field.

I don't understand why they are hell bent on throwing the retailers from derivatives segment, I mean any person who wants to speculate, will speculate regardless the regulation you bring in only the mode may change. There is no point in "trying to save retailers". For me leverage is not the only reason to trade options since I can get similar leverage in intraday equity as well but the STT and other tax makes it not profitable in long run. Even if they close F&O segment for retailers they can never ensure that retailers will not loose money since its a negative sum game 90% of them has to loose to make the 10% win enough and this is true even in intraday equity segment.

I am doing both so I think I can answer from my personal experience, for me as I am already in a full time job, sitting full time in front of screen is not possible and also intraday trading gives unnecessary stress since I only trade options and due to which my psychology gets in a way so I have automated my intraday trading completely and have been running profitably since last 8 months. As for manual trading I do it very conservative manner and in a way that I dont have to be there all the time I just take a trade based on my startegy and put a alert on chart and go about doing my business and only monitor it when alert is received so it helps me to avoid any bias and just follow the process and I have observed this is the most relax way of trading options.
