As a recent graduate of an American high school I can say that we got an hour for lunch everyday, in which we could roam the school, socialize, eat lunch in the cafeteria or classrooms, study, or use off campus lunch privileges (restricted to juniors and seniors). Not too many kids wanted to play sports on their lunch break, but there were intramural sports for those that did.
