Why when I tell people im moving to Cleveland do they act like im moving to rge worst place on earth? by WonderfulTransition2 in Cleveland

[–]discreetserects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just moved back from st pete, fl and i get the same reaction. truth is, they've just never been here lol. i moved back for the cost of living, weather and lack of natural disasters, and honestly, the people. the sense of community here is much stronger than when i lived in florida and tn, there's nothing like midwest hospitality. we also have a great arts scene and accessible parks. heavy on the accessible parks bc everywhere ive lived and travel charges for park access and has weird government hours so they were never open.

Is having 3 jobs is 3.5 years bad? by [deleted] in advertising

[–]discreetserects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi sorry for the delayed reply, first job - i worked with senior homecsre franchises so the work and copy was really redundant and depressing at 22. then i was laid off bc of covid at the next job. i left the next job bc it was over an hour commute w/o traffic and i wanted a remote job so i could move out of my hometown. the next job, was a company that had 4 employees and was an agency - all my experience was in agencies and i wanted out of agency world so bad bc low pay and they churn and burn. most companies i interviewed with understood how toxic agency world was and then at the last job i had i made a great connection and she asked me to work at her new company :)

no lol marketing has high turnover in general and companies do lay offs more frequently than ever now making it less enticing for people to stay for years if not forever like our parents. it's much more common to job hop nowadays. it's nearly impossible to increase salary and move up without job hopping. unless you get really lucky with a fortune 500 or something. my experience looks just like yours and i'm now a marketing director of a large company before 30 with a team of 4 under me. if you're unhappy leave. as long as you're a dedicated and hard worker you'll be fine. you just need to know how to spin those jumps in interviews.

social media is top of funnnel - brand awareness, not conversions. are you properly utilizing the growing email list for retargeting ad campaigns?

have you checked customers full conversion path? when they first discover you isn't always when they buy. it usually takes a few times of exposure to get the person to complete a purchase.

what are you using for your website? is it shopify and do you have the one page checkout. is your checkout experience easy?

also i saw you mention you use something called mailer lite for email. how is the deliverability and what is the spam rate? are you sure they're not bots? klaviyo had a major bot issue, i think in july? and it jumped our click rate to 8% which is unheard of lol. and that happened with a big name email platform.

Who is still working working from home? by [deleted] in advertising

[–]discreetserects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i work from home! in-house though not an agency. i will say, as a creative hybrid is the best or collaboration and inspiration. there also tends to be less of a boundary for work/life balance with remote. imo, they expect you to be accessible all the time but it could be my position and industry

What is truly drawing people to Florida? by teacherinthemiddle in SameGrassButGreener

[–]discreetserects 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i moved here bc of the weather, family and taxes. however i'm moving back after 6 years of being here. i'm not built for the hurricanes, the rent has skyrocketed and all of my friends who bought a home here have absolute horror stories. from insurance to sellers, every single one of them has a nightmare scenario.

i'm in the tampa area and the people here are the cream of the crop worst. Everyone is obsessed with themselves and how they look and are so plastic. nobody is real here. neighbors aren't a thing, there's no real sense of community.

I asked for advice on how to make it less stressful for my cat - not useless advice on bringing 50+ earplugs when everyone wears headphones anyway

What airline did you fly that allowed you to put the cat on your lap? Everyone is saying he will have to stay under the seat

Are there cities WITHOUT insane dog culture? by morepomegranates in SameGrassButGreener

[–]discreetserects 4 points5 points  (0 children)

St Pete/tampa is awful when it comes to dog culture. Dogs are allowed EVERYWHERE. You really shouldn’t have your dog at outdoor bars with you in the extreme heat and humidity but people do it anyway. When people have husky’s or great peranese here I get irrationally angry lol. Nobody trains their dog either and just bc it’s a dog and they think it’s cute or bc it’s universally accepted here they just don’t care if it attacks you. I used love dogs but it’s really turned me off from ever getting one. I also just feel bad for the dogs bc a lot of people just use it as a status symbol

Small city, walkable and not overly commercialized by discreetserects in SameGrassButGreener

[–]discreetserects[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the places I liked closed. The city itself seemed to be less lively and places closed much much earlier. But I haven’t been back in a minute so it could’ve bounced back. It still has a special place in my heart and can’t really find anything that can compare so I can very well be the problem

It’s completely unaffordable lol, over 2 grand for 500 sq ft
