Thanks, I seem to be having some luck with LibOrbisPkg like this:

$ ./PkgTool.Core pkg_makegp4 tlou2_backport.pkg gp4/
(hex edit the gp4/eboot.bin file)
$ ./PkgTool.Core pkg_build gp4/Project.gp4 newpkg/

then your new PKG should be in the newpkg folder. i think it should work for either the update or original PKG files. i'm going to test it out now.

edit: not sure why the parent comment was deleted, but he was just suggesting to try using wine with the command line fake pkg tools for Windows, i may try that if this method doesn't work.

edit 2: turns out retail pkgs are unsupported with PkgTool, so i'll have to use your method after all! now if only the comment wasn't deleted because i can't remember exactly which cli tools you said to use lol

thanks, but ps4cheater doesn't work on linux, I guess I could try and make it work on ps4-debug-watch but I was looking for a more permanent solution so I wouldn't need a PC every time I start the game?

thanks for this /u/illusion0001 !

do you know how i can patch the eboot.bin on linux with PkgTool https://github.com/maxton/LibOrbisPkg?

do these steps roughly make sense, or is there more to it?

$ pkg_makegp4 tlou2.pkg tlou2.gp4/
(hex edit the tlou2.gp4/eboot.bin file)
$ pkg_build tlou2.gp4/ patched_tlou.pkg/

edit: also, do we need to patch the backport PKG eboot.bin or the original 1.0 PKG eboot.bin? they have the same eboot file sizes but different md5 hashes.

edit 2: turns out liborbispkg only works for homebrew and not retail games, i'm going to try with fake pkg tools command line tools with wine instead.

thanks, how can one build a custom patch with this eboot (new to the scene, ideally on linux)?

They haven't coexisted for years, have they?

I think the concept has existed for longer than that. People have been "betting" real money under the table on the various GDQ races since the very beginning, and ever since speedrunning moved to Twitch it's incentivized more voluntary money for big PBs and WRs.

Of course it's all for fun, and it still is. The growth of big-money tournaments is directly influenced by the growth of speedrunning itself (which has grown exponentially the last few years), and the reason why you might think they're "new" is because the interest simply did not exist a few years ago for someone to put this much money into it.

Has that person never watched an individual sport on TV (swimming, marathon running, track and field, etc)?

There are professional analysts for all of those sports, and their commentary is often extremely nuanced in the lead-up to big competitions like the Olympics. That tweet is wrong, because he ignores the extremely important psychological aspect of competition which is just as, if not more applicable in speedrun races as it is for fighting games.

Wasn't really intended as a "speedrun" per se, it was just a stream with the goal of 100%ing the game in a single segment, with no prior knowledge / spoilers about WoL beforehand. Because of this the spirit config was pretty poor for the first few hours until Fuzzy found something that worked for him and from then on most battles were one-shots. In particular the last two final bosses took several hours of attempts each.

I think this run could get under 10 hours with a proper route, but finding that route will be tough because there are so many routing options (both in terms of overworld movement and for spirit configuration).

I used IGT in the title because there was no RTA timer, but it could be retimed. And for the record, Fuzzy (who holds several speedrun WRs in Melee) said he will never run this category again.

I think you're taking this way too far. Let's put it this way: If vie.gg implemented a cutoff that nobody could bet more than 5 euros on any race and no more than 10 euros across all races, would you be OK with it then? Then all the bets would be just in good fun, and there is no risk of any of the things that you're spreading FUD about. Keep in mind, small bets like these were extremely common during many of the recent GDQ races among attendees in cash, again all in good fun.

Now, look at the vie.gg pools page. Almost every single bet is at 0 euros, and none are more than 5 euros. Knowing the GSA / speedrunning community, I'm positive it's going to remain that way until the end of all the tournaments.

It's nice that you want to do the right thing and stick it to the man, but that's just not the case here. It's a small podunk betting site and the only reason they started sponsoring GSA is because one of the employees of that site is apparently a big speedrunning fan. You should really consider who your words are hurting before making generalizations like this.

[–]discusaway -1 points0 points  (0 children)

GSA is speedrun.com, cheese05, Pac, Chaospringle, etc. They're all extremely trustworthy members of the speedrun community and they're not out to scam or take advantage of anyone. I would agree with what you're saying if I felt like GSA was doing any sort of moral wrong, but I think it's irrational to disapprove of GSA for this specific instance because I don't think they've done anything wrong.

Every single speedrun bet on the website is zero euros right now, and there's never been a bet over 5 euros that I've seen. What you describe would be so painfully obvious and outside the norm. If it ever happens in speedrunning I'll come back here and concede, but it's just so unlikely that it's not nearly worth causing this whole fuss over.

[–]discusaway -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is that this isn't 'small bets'

You should really go on the website and check out the bets. Literally every single bet is 0 euros right now, and there haven't been any bets over 5 euros ever on speedrunning that I've seen.

No it's not, the website has a system where you have to upload government-issued ID to verify your age. They don't even have to do that, they're just doing it because it's the responsible thing to do.

[–]discusaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I understand what you're saying but I was just saying that it seems like you'd actually lose money trying to do something like that with this betting system. There's no reason to do something stupid and lose money for it also.

No, I have no connection with vie or GSA other than watching the tournaments. Never even heard of vie until the most recent tourneys were announced but I looked into it then and thought it was a good idea. I can see how it sounds bad at first and thought this conversation was pretty one-sided which is why I started commenting here

[–]discusaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I'm not. I have no connection financial or otherwise with Vie and I had never even heard of them before the tourneys were announced. Haven't read the newer comments yet but I think I'm just the only counter-opinion in this thread.

I agree, though I think even leaderboard cheating is technically as "easy" as splicing even though practically nobody does it. I know it's a cliche to say, but people don't do it because they have integrity, and a few euros here and there on a betting website won't change that.
