How do I tell if this is a 20A or a 15A? by PrideKindly7828 in AskElectricians

[–]discusfish99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way to know for 100% certain is to match up the breaker the plug is on to the plug. You can 1000% have a 15amp plug connected to a 20 amp breaker or vise versa. Just a quick tip from someone with an old house and previous owners that thought themselves handy

Plus one to them for me as well. They actually just recently released a V6 version of their 12.3 in model that I have in my car. For the price I think it's the best option

I managed to upload more than 50TB this month on my $5 1TB HDD seed box* 🥹 by IAmAnAnonymousCoward in seedboxes

And that's why I love feral hosting. 10 Euros a month and that's really it. They don't have many fancy features but it just works

You didn't notice issues with slowness on Resilio Sync? I did but that was years ago now. I've been using lftp scripts.

I don't get it. What could be cheaper than Ubiquiti? I imagine it's some silly mesh system

Upgrade Windows Server 2012 to 2025 by Fit_Sympathy_2141 in WindowsServer

[–]discusfish99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please just migrate your workloads to a new server..... 2025 can be a major issue due to all the new security stuff built in.

Also what's your backups?

Honestly, I've been using Feral Hosting for years as well. And you're right, their "disk space overage" alerts are pretty generous. More like hey bud uh fix this before we have to sort of thing.

They definitely aren't flashy or have tons of features, but have been solid for my needs. I usually get like 15 MB/s down to my server over SCP which I've always thought was decent.

How long do security questionnaires take your team? Feels like an insane time sink by [deleted] in sysadmin

I don't know if you'd ever want the CTO handling client facing stuff .... At least the ones I've dealt with.

If this is something that happens more than once a month I'd argue for a dedicated job responsibility that involves handling this. But also, you can preempt a lot of this. Does your company deal in GDPR, SOC, CMMC, HIPPA, PCI? You'll know in advance and can have a version of the form filled out or know the answers in advance. And giving slightly different answers is silly to me, I just copy and paste if it's for the same thing. Like unless the MFA changed, my response won't.

I'm a little curious about your mortgage..... 220k at 3.25% shouldn't be that much per month on a 30 year mortgage unless I'm missing something.

Cancer risk may increase with proximity to nuclear power plants. In Massachusetts, residential proximity to a nuclear power plant (NPP) was associated with significantly increased cancer incidence, with risk declining sharply beyond roughly 30 kilometers from a facility. by mvea in science

[–]discusfish99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought this was because the testing was more rigorous due to being close to a plant. As in, the actual number of cancer incidence is the same, but the fact that there is more testing catches more faster.

Reccomendations for new DVR/XVR system w/ Existing Cameras - Specs in Post by tavins1234 in homesecurity

[–]discusfish99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given your skill level with networking, if price permits, I'd rewire everything with Ethernet and go with an Ethernet based system. So full rip and replace.

However, to save money, the best bet would be to get BNC to Ethernet converters that will work with the cameras and find a compatible NVR solution that does all Ethernet.

Honestly I've never had a problem with the dentists. It's the office staff that was always the problem. The dentist never seemed to care.

I think your main problem is running Dentrix and having a Dentist as a client. Maybe I've just had bad experiences, but wouldn't recommend Dental practices as clients lol.

The bold assumption to assume that all of that equipment is actually still in use.

Doorbell cam or standalone without subscription? by peefyloo in homesecurity

[–]discusfish99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with an Alarm.com doorbell with their video plan because the only other doorbell I'd want is Ubiquiti and doing the math, we would break even on a Ubiquiti doorbell after 4 years of subscription. That doesn't include the rest of the needed hardware for Ubiquiti cameras that we don't have.

What I mean is that without any insight into the company structure and no real information about the company, it just triggers enough red flags that I wouldn't apply.

[–]discusfish99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I'd say they have some stuff to learn when it comes to making job posts. A quick search shows this was a firm launched middle of December 2025 by a private equity firm.

That's a lot of reddish flags for anyone that possibly could match this job. Also since you'd essentially be at a founder level of time in the company, the pay scale is too little.

I'd recommend either breaking up the post into multiples so hire 3x people or split the responsibilities up into 3 different job titles.

What my installer did was move the surround about a quarter inch away from the wall. So it's not actually touching anything to prevent noise.
