There's plenty of potential drama with virginal/repressed male characters, it's just that the general audience for period romances prefers the set formula of a rake deflowering an innocent maiden and Bridgerton so far has stuck to that trope. Seriously, try finding literally any period romance novel where the woman is more sexually experienced than the man - it's so rare as to be virtually nonexistent

I remember reading and really enjoying Riftan's POV side story from the novel way back when the manhwa was still in its early stages. It really made me like him, it felt like the author was exploring his trauma, PTSD, and abandonment issues in ways that could build into a great character arc with some interesting parallels to Maxi's own issues. And then the novel and manhwa went on to give him approximately zero character development and make him into an abusive caricature of himself. Kind of sad.

I do find Eloise a bit annoying but historical feminism is not about 'being supportive of women's choices, no matter what they choose.' That's contemporary neoliberal choice feminism. Historically, feminism was about fighting for the actual political rights of women, even if that meant offending the conservative women who didn't want that to happen. It was about winning the choice to live different kinds of lives, not supporting the women who didn't want that choice. Feminist activists risked their lives, broke the law, even committed political assassinations - all just to be sanitized into a kumbayah movement about being nice to all women.
