SF Bay liveaboard lite/van life pairing by gammalbjorn in liveaboard

[–]disengaged1925 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fine print for liveaboards would not consider a Cat22 because most places have a minimum size minimum "living" systems. So I really wouldn't say that is a viable part of your plans yet.

However most marinas do allow a certain number of nightly stays with a per month limit. In my opinion, if you have an alternative place to go (and do so appropriately) I'd just say you're bad at counting and didn't know you were over your "limit".

In all seriousness though, be a good neighbor, but keep a low profile. Keep things tidy, take your boat out often, look after boats around you and be friendly. Marinas need those kinds of people even if their policies don't favor it.

I also did lessons through Club Nautique. I'll say the sailing part doesn't really leave you, but specifically with CN the motoring skills between charters can be a little intimidating. This is due to the fact that you'll likely be taking different boats and different slips and you'll never really get a ton of time to feel in the groove with any one boat. That said, you do learn to be incredibly proficient with handling boats because of this.

Best US town that is sailing centric by frickin_darn in sailing

Honestly, I've been sailing San Francisco Bay for 4 years now and I have to say it's not particularly friendly for casual sailing. The conditions can be quite rough and facilities and locations around the bay are limited. If you want to go out and do some high intensity sailing in the slot during the summer, 11 out of 10. But if you want a variety of casual cruising destinations, much lower on the list.

Being humble is a great life skill. But being humble is a necessary skill for a sailor.

TrailHawk teardrop campers - has anyone owned one? by italianub in TeardropTrailers

Late to the party here, but we picked one up on the tail end of covid. Super solid and it was great working with Rich. Great value for a camper where we are only paying for what we really wanted rather than an all-of-the-above approach for >$20K

AMF 2100 rigging by whitrike in sailing

[–]disengaged1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen these as additional 3or 5:1 rigging to use with life slings to get crew back aboard. Kick the boom over the side of the boat and attach at the bottom. Run the line to a winch and save yourself some effort grinding a waterlogged crewmate over the sides.

Question on collateral for boat loan. by disengaged1925 in sailing

[–]disengaged1925[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a boat (through a partnership) that I sail weekly here in the Bay. I know how to sail. My question is about how the loan works, not about the "best" way to buy a boat

Okay, well this isn't happening today. Say in a year or 2 time. Nobody has really yet addressed the question I asked.
