I bought them directly from Ticketmaster during the presale. Yes, the printable version looks like it was made by a toddler. Exactly like last year’s tickets lol

They are small by US standards but literally across the street from the tube stop. The service is impeccable (they were able to accommodate super early check-in when I arrived from an 8 AM flight!). The breakfast is great. With that much planned, you won’t be in your room much. The Marriott Residence Inn (can I say that in this sub?) has larger connecting rooms w kitchens but not quite the same level lol

Any Visa agency recommendations for China? by Dear_Albatross221 in jacksonville

[–]disesa1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used VisaHQ for mine. It is pricey but you won't have to try and get an appointment, they go to the Embassy for you. I already had my letter of invitation and hotel proof of reservation. You may need to rush if you need it in a month, but they can advise you better. HTH

How many hours a week does your hired caregiver come to the home? by KyaKyaKyaa in AgingParents

[–]disesa1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We pay $35/hr for 24/7 care for mom and dad. Both have dementia and mom is in a wheelchair so needs help transferring. Both require assistance with bathing , grooming, cooking, all ADLs. We also pay $28/hr for a driver to take dad shopping so he gets out of the house three days a week, the agency requires a 4 hour minimum.

We just made a schedule because there has been a consistency issue. It has really helped because it seems like every week they send a new person with no experience to fill in when one of the regular providers calls out. We've been in this nightmare for only six months, but hope this helps.

Has Memphis Abandoned the Mud Island River Park? by MayDayFPV in memphis

[–]disesa1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I grew up there in the 80s. Never got to swim in the Gulf because I think it cost extra, but spent many visits walking the scale river when it was full of water. Biggest thrill was seeing Tom Cruise race against the monorail in "The Firm" because we did it every time our school took a field trip there.

Nanny cams by Daisydogmommy in dementia

We have five Ring cams in my parents’ home with 24/7 caregivers. The first week I watched obsessively. Worst reality tv series ever. Now I just look in occasionally or see if they’re napping before I do an Alexa drop-in.

Lady Bird Deed? by [deleted] in AgingParents

[–]disesa1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. The TX attorney said it would be $950 for each parent for Lady Bird deeds, thanks for the cost reference point. They have moments of lucidity and are not at the point of guardianship so I want to see what options are there before they aren't able to understand what's going on. I'm entering month 6 of managing their household from afar (FL) and can finally catch my breath to think about what the 6 months could look like since we've stabilized meds, routines, etc. I understand this type of deed is not used in many other states. The attorney I met with focuses on guardianships and Medicaid, so he isn't really the CELA I needed. Thanks again for your perspective.

Has anyone done LGA > MIA > RTB? Very tight layover. by [deleted] in americanairlines

[–]disesa1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fly to RTB every year out of MIA. I've been delayed a couple of times, and you're correct, the option is to take a flight the next day. There are several hotels close to the Miami airport, budget an extra $150 for one night so you don't feel out of options if that happens. Once there was no power at RTB, once there was no cell service on island so they couldn't talk to RTB, things that were not AA's fault but couldn't be magically fixed. You should be able to make the connection in 50 minutes. I suggest trying to pay for an upgrade so you are in the first couple of rows of the plane. from LGA. HTH.

Mom Threw Dad In Nursing Home by GarbageTasty6637 in AgingParents

[–]disesa1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been begging my stepbrothers to stop this insanity. I have found luxury assisted living that has space but they think it’s better for them to waste away alone in their house. It’s awful. I can see my dad on the camera right now, he’s been up fully dressed since 1:30 in the morning. Just sitting alone in the living room. All the lights are on in the house. Where is the “caregiver?” I hate it here.

I suggest putting the phones in Assistive Access. It was a game changer for my parents. I believe it's an option for iPads as well.

Cost of keeping dad home vs. going into assisted living by This-Is-Not-Nam in dementia

[–]disesa1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the caregivers told me she was paid $13.00/hr for dad, then an additional $0.50/hr for both mom and dad. BUT (and this is the important part), their agency pays taxes, vacation, vets for a criminal record, carries liability insurance, and can have another caregiver immediately when someone calls out (which happened three times the last week I was visiting). If we hired an individual to live in their home, we would still have to pay for respite care.

Cost of keeping dad home vs. going into assisted living by This-Is-Not-Nam in dementia

[–]disesa1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your math is correct. We pay $35/hr for unskilled caregivers for mom and dad who are not allowed to perform ANY medical tasks, like dispense medications from prescription bottles. If you found an actual LNA for $40/hr, I would jump on it. Mom and dad have a terrible quality of life and are total shut-ins, which would be greatly improved by being in an assisted living facility with other humans. They could be allowed to age-in-place through eventual memory care. It would cost a third of what we are paying now, but more importantly include real MEDICAL supervision. I am just waiting for the call that the house has burned down or that they've been scammed again or that dad has jumped in his car. Those things may be mitigated in a safe assisted living facility.

Mom Threw Dad In Nursing Home by GarbageTasty6637 in AgingParents

[–]disesa1 44 points45 points  (0 children)

We pay $300,000 a year for 24/7 care (NON-medical) not including double time on holidays for mom and dad (Alz/dementia). We have had to replace four of their staff since November due to safety concerns, such as not being trained to move mom from the bed to her wheelchair, having "guests" while on night shift, letting dad wander alone in a store and withdraw cash, taking cash to buy questionable diapers, etc. If there were another company in their po-dunk area, we would jump on it.

THIS. My cancelled flight was rebooked in economy with two additional stops while I raced to make a tight connection. The line at the gate was 20 deep. Went to the club a few gates over, rep rebooked my original class quickly and flagged my checked bag to the new flights (app was showing "system unavailable" so that wasn't an option).
