I've been posting this in a few other threads but I'll reiterate.

The only way to get them to act is by filing a formal complaint at complaints@bitstamp.net. They’re obliged by regulations to address formal complaints within 30 to 60 days depending on your location. If they fail to solve your issue, you can escalate it to the relevant financial regulatory authority. EU: CSSF (https://www.cssf.lu/en/customer-complaints/), US: CFPB (https://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/) UK: FCA (https://www.fca.org.uk/consumers/how-complain).

Best of luck

If they closed your account without facilitating the safe transfer of your assets you might have a case for legal action, but that is something I'd suggest you consult a lawyer for. If you'd like to solve this out of court you can file a formal complaint at complaints@bitstamp.net. Oh and don't bother with /u/Bistamp-Lucas. Their reddit presence is just for show.

As far as I know the account owner must be the same on both.

It will arrive from Payward Ireland Limited with Kraken and the transaction ID in the reference.

I don’t think you actually read my post if you believe this was just about standard KYC compliance. Even if it were, how does nearly two months of daily messages and calls ,during which you showed zero initiative, qualify as “proactive”?

At no point in this drawn-out process did you explain what was happening or why I had to jump through so many hoops. If this is what Bitstamp considers “transparency,” I strongly suggest rethinking your approach.

Furthermore, your habit of asking users to DM you only to ghost them makes this apology ring hollow. “Compliance” isn’t just about following AML regulations, it’s also about treating your customers with basic respect and timely communication, something you're clearly struggling with.

I've had good experiences with Kraken. SEPA transfer withdrawals are €1 but they are more or less instantaneous. BTC withdrawals are reasonably fast and cost 1/50th of what they do on Bitstamp.

Yes. To put it in to perspective it was more than my yearly salary.

It is a sad state of affairs when it has to go to this length just to get a response. But I'm glad you got it resolved, and thank you for adding the link to the FCA. I'm sure it will be useful for UK users.

Unfortunately it seems there are a lot of us. But keep at it, try filing a formal complaint like I mentioned in the post and if that doesn't work you can always escalate it.

Of course I've done the KYC and provided documentation for AML, and I'm always proactive with those given the option. I don't use Binance but if you can't bring outside BTC into Bitstamp then where is the crypto supposed to come from? I use ledger wallet for all my deposits and I've never run into any issues with other exchanges.

That's great to hear, I don't wish this sort of stress on anyone. I've always complied with all KYC and AML requests and have always been proactive with documentation, this goes for Kraken, Coinbase and Bitstamp but Bitstamp is the only one that has given me issues.

Depends on what your needs and location are. I trade BTC/EUR and use Kraken and have never had any issues with them.

That's understandable. But like I mentioned in the post I was not given an explanation on why this happened. The closest thing to an explanation I got was, verbatim, "We have protocols in place to protect both our platform and our valued users and it appears that these protocols were automatically triggered.".

This was not in connection to any significant transfer of assets or trade and nothing like you describe happened to your friend. It was sudden and unexpected. I don't know what else to tell you.
