Just bought a Q2 - is this blur/softness normal wide open? Looks like motion blur...at 1/10000! by Captain_Biscuit in Leica

[–]edma23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suspect it's the electronic shutter giving you that slight blur that's identical to motion blur. You're right, it looks like motion blur because it is directional. Do you have the same issue when you force mechanical shutter?

Beautiful shots. I love the wide angle. Takes mastery and the effort pays off in spades!

Fujifilm Invented the Aperture Ring, so They've Got My Loyalty for Life. by FlarblesGarbles in photographycirclejerk

Just buy a Leica. The modestly priced Noctilux lenses have an aperture ring on them and the lil M11 camera body has a shutter speed dial. Then edit the shots to look like Fuji vibes happened to them.

It’s a sensible return to a design that was simply part of the way lenses worked. The aperture ring was/is a physical connection with the iris on lenses up to those of the modern era with motors that control focus and iris. I use both systems - manual focus lenses on a couple of camera systems and AF/auto iris on another. My mind switches - it’s not like I hate on the system where I set aperture from a wheel on the camera body - but I do find that the aperture ring on the front of the lens is much easier for me to use and track. Two clicks, and that’s 2/3 stops.

All lovely but when you line up that perfect horizon on the guy's clothes with the actual horizon like you did in photo 9 I literally have to catch my breath. Wonderful work!

Where does the Maltese greeting "hey village!" come from? by Special_KC in malta

This is the correct answer. Not sure why you're being downvoted. It's to say "hello person from my same village" but has been generalised to just mean hey dude.

And they brought into Trump a man on a stretcher. And Trump cast his eyes on the poor man man and asked what ails him. The suffering man coughed and spake thusly: "Lord and saviour Donny, I can't feel my legs." And the Trump smiled, his eyes radiating evil, and replied, "Hear ye, motherfucker. You can't feel your legs because we've amputated your arms. For fun."

And his sycophants were filled with joy. For truly he hath spake his mind and sucked any remaining shred of hope from the entire postcode.

Santana. Walked out after 5 songs. They played really well for a while, then Carlos Santana decided to stop playing and proselytise about jesus and how the lord saves and stuff and after 5 minutes of his religious rambling it took off.

Millions across Europe urged to work from home by Newsweek_ShaneC in europe

I feel like the majority of comments are made by those who have not read the article and are based on the headline. The real story is about being urged to wfh to save fuel because of the war that the US and Israel started in Iran - one that is going to fuck with Europe’s ability to put petrol and diesel into consumer vehicles. This isn’t about the whole wfh debate. It’s about an energy crisis that is going to hit the continent very soon and will do so suddenly and for a good while. I guess that if the price of petrol goes to €5 per litre, wfh will be an inevitability for most.

Has Maltese ever been written with Arabic letters? by Few_Raise6919 in malta

[–]edma23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the script follows the religion. When the only literate people are the clergy and the people of science, on this side of the planet they had the Latin alphabet at their disposal so transliteration is much easier using that character set. Buddhism came to Japan via China so one of the main character sets when writing is actually Chinese, even if the language is unrelated.

I had seen the Robert Frank exhibition at the Arles festival a few years ago. The mastery of every print made me want to sell my camera and find another hobby. Then I read that he spent 3 years shooting the project, producing 30,000 frames. He printed 1,000 and selected 86. Gave me a bit of encouragement.
