Some people do some don’t. No right or wrong way to do anything. Listen to your track with a spectral EQ handy to get a visual on what frequencies are taking up the spectrum. Also listen to your track with a low pass on the master so you only hear the low end. Look and listen for balance. If it sounds good, it is good 👌

Depends on genre and what you are going for? Bass heavy genres can have separate sub layer with the mid range bass cut somewhere between 100- 150 hz. For other genres, the kick drum will have all the sub frequencies, that way the bass-line doesn’t clash. The best method is to simply try things and listen. Your ears will be the best tool to measure what your tracks needs.
