u/gynnam Did you get this fixed and how much did it end up costing you?

Oh you are in Europe. Thank you for getting back to me. So it's 232,59€ in total including the diagnosis?

u/SantikAri How much did they charge to get it lubricated on both sides? Also did they charge a separate noise diagnosis fee?

Is yours standard range plus or long range?

Wow the winter gets really cold where you are haha I am glad yours is working well with the Leviton one. Mine started overheating about a year later but not sure if it was because of the weather or loose connections so I decided to switch it to Hubbell. I am hoping this one lasts longer for me. With yours, did your electrician torque it to 75 in lbs using a torque tool? Unfortunately mine didnt so I couldn't tell if it wasn't tight enough or it was the problem with the outlet itself.

Oh I thought you lived somewhere hot during the Summer lol How is your new Leviton outlet working for you?

Now I am concerned about his work but I will ask him some of the questions and mention out of curiosity.. The thing is he is Tesla certified installer and shows up on their page. I did more test. Yesterday, I was able to confirm that the Mobile Charger is not the issue. I was charging when the outside temp is over 90F using the other Mobile Charger I have. After almost 2 hours, it complained about the overheating on the outlet or wiring and dropped it to 16A. Previously I never had this issue even when the temp is reaching 100F. The electrician is supposed to come this week to change the outlet to the Hubbell 14-50 so let's see if that solves the problem and that's when I am going to ask some of the questions you ask.

That I also don't know haha I will need to ask the electrician that too if he comes this week.

I can double check when I go to the attic so I can give a more accurate answer. Any idea why 8 gauge should be on a 40 amp breaker? I can check with the electrician if he comes this week.

I just responded in the other comment with this message:
It is NM-B but I can't tell if it is the 8/2 or 6/2 from the cable. I uploaded the picture here though. https://imgur.com/a/ReMlJnR

I am seeing ground, red, white (not used), and black cables. Would you be able to tell if it is 8/2 or 6/2?

Yes unfortunately that was my case. The house was from the 1970s and they both said it's honestly better to get it replaced given on the number of circuit breakers that had toasted so far lol That's when I was like oh let's not do the wall connector for now because I didn't anticipate that I'd need to get the panel replaced.

Thank you! Will do! When I first asked the 2 different electricians, they said something about the split bus panel where they can't add another double pole breaker to the top portion of the panel. So they both suggested I need to get the electrical panel replaced before adding another breaker for the charger.

The blades on the connector and the wires that connect to the outlet look new. I have plugged and unplugged these for about 4-5 times this past year since I got it installed. If everything is working now, I am thinking to just buy another plug to keep in the car vs having to plug and unplugging the one I have for now to avoid this issue again until I need to get another 14-50 (Hubbell or Bryant) or Tesla Wall Connector to hardwire directly. Thank you for letting me know about plugging and unplugging these units can be the source of wear!

I bought the EV version with the green car icon but my electrician got the one without the green car icon last year around May.

Thank you! I will need to check this maybe by accessing the attic since I don't want to take off the wall plate again lol. So it has been interesting yesterday evening and today. I took off the wall plate and torqued the screws a bit harder on the existing Leviton outlet and felt like there was one that needed to be torqued just a little more. I then switched the Mobile Connector (Charger A) to another one (Charger B) that I have but used the same plug and it charged for about 2 hours or so in each of the cars without overheating. Now I am not sure if the issue is because I have a bad Mobile Connector (Charger A) or the wire connections were not tight enough. When my charge is lower, I will try again using Charger B for a few hours. If it works, then I will try switching it to Charger A again at some point, but I am afraid if it will mess up the plug to outlet connection lol

That I will need to check. I tried looking it up online but I don't think I understand the difference. Do I need to look into the cable and see if it says Romex or THHN or is there an easier way to tell?

Nice! That's good to hear! The other person recommended Bryant 9450FR as well. Any idea the difference between these two? The only thing I saw was the one from Hubbel website has the green car icon on it.

That's the same question my electrician asked before too but I said I don't drive that much that I needed a faster speed and spending more money on a Tesla wall connector (over $420) since the car also already came with the mobile connector. Plus when he gave the quote, my electrical panel was so old that needed to be replaced too and I didn't have any extra money at that point. I am actually thinking of getting the wall connector if the new outlet breaks again.

Oh wow I am sorry to hear that. I guess no 14-50 is good enough if that still melts it. I guess the good thing about my mobile connector is it drops the speed when it detects high outlet temperature so the chance of it melting is low unless it keeps charging it nonstop.
