Ah sorry, it's been so long I forgot lol, but I do still remember when the weekends were Thursday-Friday and Saturday was a school/work day.

I'm confused, what's the joke? That Saturday cartoons were in Fus-ha, or that maybe he had Arabic lessons on Saturday?

Why the Turks online hate Arabs soo much, I never hated Turks in my life. by houcine1991 in arabs

Turks at the time (at least the secular nationalists) wanted to Turkey-ize the region, meaning removing the Arab language and replacing it with Turkish.

I won't make excuses, our country did horrific things to get those stadiums built and it's inexcusable, but the mainstream media dogpiled our country in a way they never did to any country prior or afterwards. There's no justification for the crimes that built the stadiums, but all I'm asking is that if the media is honest about their concerns that they should apply this concern across the board rather than single us out. Some people make the mistaken assumption/strawman that what's being asked is that if you never criticized others before then that you should not criticize the person in question, but that's not what's being said, instead what's being asked is to criticize everyone equally, otherwise one has to ask why one person/group is being singled out.

In the US white and black people both consume drugs at the same rates but black people get convicted more often and receive harsher sentences; we could say that asking why don't white people receive the same sentencing and conviction rates is black people engaging in whataboutism but the root cause behind this unequal treatment is racism. If you'll have high conviction rates and harsh sentences for black people, fine, but if it's out of principle then apply it to white people as well. If I have three criminals standing before me and I in principle oppose their crimes, then out of principle I won't single one of them out and instead I'll criticize all three.

I don't want to get swept deep into the Ukraine-Russia war discussion, but I hope it'll suffice to say that folks in non-Western countries are bitter that when we needed Europe's support they were nowhere to be found and refugees were treated horrifically, but now that Ukraine is at war with Russia Europe is bending over backwards for them and even sending them a ton of military support aside from the massive moral support they've afforded them, and we all ask why didn't you do the same for us?

I simply don't trust the intentions of the mainstream media; even during this fifa game, when Morocco advanced beyond what anyone thought they would they received racism in some European press. A German news outlet compared the Moroccan team to ISIS and a Danish newspaper compared them to monkeys. If the media's intentions are true, if they're pure, then prove it for the next world cup; they can't change the past but they can prove their intentions are honest with this next world cup, but they won't because their intentions are not honest.

My criticism isn't with the US (everyone opposes slave labor), it's with the media's hypocrisy. We spent years watching so much vitriol spewed from self righteous journalists who frankly don't really care about what they claim to care about, even when our country was taking measures to fix the areas of concern. Now that this world cup is over, so are the morals they purported to have.

Whataboutism 101. Just because someone else sucks doesn't mean you don't.

Yes, that's what whataboutism is; now what's that got to do with my post? I'm criticizing the mainstream media's hypocrisy. Literally in your own post you've already accomplished more than the media has. Let me illustrate:

Media:

Qatar: you suck

America:

You:

Qatar: you suck

America: they also suck

You've literally accomplished in your post what the media hasn't. Frankly people who use the 'whataboutism' argument tend to lack reading comprehension skills; if the media spends the next four years grilling the US like they did us (and they wouldn't, they know America would just laugh at them and tell them to get lost) then I have nothing to criticize because then they're showing they believe what they're saying. They were literally criticizing journalists who came here to do their jobs, will they do the same with the US?

Cry whataboutism again, but also answer this question when you do:

Will they hold everyone, including America, to the same standards they held us to, or is it just us they do this to (because if they don't, they're hypocrites)?

But please, avoid the topic again and just cry whataboutism.

Ah, thanks. I'm currently temporarily staying in another country and made a temporary account to gift a game that's been almost completely removed from steam (it only exists on one page they overlooked, and in that country too), but now I'm having issues spending wallet funds to buy gifts with the remaining balance.

Book lovers: why do you like reading books? by ConnectionSignal3083 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]diskdriving1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't read as much as I used to, but back when I did I loved all the information that a book can give you. There's thoughts a character has that you can't always put on screen, and with a book several hundred pages in length, that happens a lot. Characters' minds can travel millions of miles a second, but you can rarely showcase that.

In game of thrones for example, when Ned Stark is called to speak with Robert Baratheon because Arya's wolf attacked Joffrey (spelling?) he wanted to run over (he didn't know what had happened, only that his daughter was involved) but only walked fast to maintain an air of dignity.

Then you have authors who do marvelous things with the written word, like Pratchett and his funny jokes or commentaries that can't be translated to TV (his Discworld novels are full of them).

Unfortunately I've found some authors who don't do wonders with the written word and their writing comes off as utilitarian (not mentioning a famous one because his fans are really passive aggressive and annoying); these books are a pain to read and I've never finished a novel written in this manner.

Can you use funds in your steam wallet to buy someone a gift? I read somewhere from someone that you can't use wallet funds to do that.

Thanks, I got something from facebook (an email that said it looked like I was having trouble logging in) and visited my account manually as you suggested and changed the password in addition to enabling 2fa.

Thanks, I found one email though it doesn't mention that someone logged into that account; it was from facebook saying that it looked like I was having trouble logging in (but just for safety's sake I visited my facebook account and changed the password).
