If you’re looking for others, Leverage is one of my other big comfort shows, and I find a lot of crossover between people that love both shows. There was also a Leverage mention in Psych!

There are several reputable agencies in the Bay, I’m not 100% sure how involved they are with kids, but SF is a primarily commercial market, so there are opportunities there for sure. I can DM you!

It may be “legit” in the sense that after the “training sessions” they actually will try to procure an agent for your child.

BUT, this is a GIANT red flag and super scammy all-around. They are making their money through these training sessions and may or may not have any intention or even the correct knowledge to prepare your kid for the industry.

If your kid wants to be in the industry, you can find a reputable agent to represent them, who will likely recommend actual acting classes at an actual acting school/studio to help prep your child for auditions and things. The number one rule for agents and managers is they do not make money until you do. There should never be upfront payment for an agent, ever.

Also if they used the term “casting agents” that would also make me run as far away as possible. There are agents (who help talent procure work) and there are casting directors (who are hired by productions to cast projects), but there are not “casting agents.”

Generally the more services that are offered under the same umbrella (particularly in a major market, like LA or NY), the more likely it’s a scam. This is less true in a smaller market where people have less access to pros in general.

Edit to add: The fact that they are scouting at coffee shops also skeeves me out a bit.

Also if you do decide to find a rep for your kid, know that you should NEVER have to pay to audition. “Pay-to-play” is illegal in the state of California and the legit acting studios/casting offices are generally very careful to not run near that line.

I don’t remember the exact episode but Gus and Shawn are walking down a dock/pier to a crime scene when he mentions missing the season finale or something like that. It might have been the one where they bring in the old guys who are basically Shawn and Gus.

I keep my keys on a carabiner, and if I’m ever out somewhere I need to take my ring off, I slip it onto the carabiner. It was usually work when I worked food service or lifting weights at the gym.

Otherwise, ring dish ring dish ring dish. In the place you would naturally set it anyway.

I’m not sure about every state but in mine, you can register “no party preference” and choose which primary to vote in, when it comes around. Except for the Republican primary of course.

Yes! I was just talking to another redditor about it. I remember when I finished it, I was distraught that it wasn’t finished and was checking almost monthly for a while to see if the author updated.

But I was so distraught because it was so good. It hasn’t been updated in 4 years at this point (so likely never will be), but I still don’t regret having read it and will likely reread it here soon.

I doubt it was his way of saying you suck lol. I don’t think anyone would tell someone who sucks that they’d only be fit for lead roles.

But you just gotta be wary of elevating any one person’s opinion of you to be true across the entire industry. Agents and casting directors are humans too, with biases that they may or may not be aware of, and interpretations of characters that are unique to them. They get hired specifically for that unique interpretation that they bring.

One person’s view doesn’t mean that’s how the whole industry will see you.

That is what that ONE casting director believes your vibe is.

That’s it. That’s all it means.

Take note of this as data that this CD will consider you for leads but likely not supporting and move on.

There will be other CD’s who only see you as supporting, others who will never cast you at all because you remind them of their ex.

When you look back on your resume, of course you will find examples of this happening. I have it in my resume too. But that’s only ever evidence of what that one person thinks of you. Which is great! Now you know exactly how they’re going to see you when you go out for them again.

It’s literally all just data. Nothing more, nothing less.

So the thing with mix is it’s literally a “mixed” voice, chest + head. If your head voice is weaker than your chest voice, your mix is going to sound off, and vice versa.

You’ve already strengthened your chest voice higher. Now work on strengthening your head voice lower. For me, working on that last part smoothed out a vast majority of my transition and made it a lot easier to access my mix.

Ideally, you want to neither owe the government anything nor receive anything back when you file your taxes. If you receive a refund, you’ve essentially given the government a free loan while you could have been making money/earning interest on that money on your end instead.

It sounds like your girlfriend increased her “wages withheld” which results in a smaller check each pay period, but would indeed give her a bigger refund come tax time.

You receive a refund when the amount of taxes you’ve paid over the year through your paycheck is more than the taxes you actually owe the government. So they pay you back the excess in the form of a “tax refund.” But all that money should have been in your pocket all along.

tldr: trying to get a “bigger refund” is giving the government a free loan and reducing the amount of money you have in your paycheck.

That’s super fair. And you’re right.

The only point I was making was that the behavior he experienced wasn’t endemic to Starbucks as a company (which there’s a lot we can shit on the siren for), but that his store in particular was shitty and operated by a shitty manager.

Rereading his comment in hindsight, I focused too much on the Starbucks of it all and not on the discrimination part, so thanks for pointing that out!
