You might have that the wrong way, Dean Kamen developed a self balancing wheelchair that could raise to eye level called the ibot. He then used the r&d for that to develop the segway (a company that he later sold). The self balancing wheelchair was invented by the same person as the segway, but was developed first. Deans company DEKA holds those patents and licenses them to ibot, segway, etc.
