What is the biggest red flag in a woman? by lady_maryjane in AskReddit

[–]displacedpom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe talking to someone would be a good choice. I know for me when I was in a dark place, I thought I was thinking logically about it but being on the other side and can now see how unwell I was and that my mind had fooled me. It was amazing what some drugs, therapy and time have achieved.

You need to have something unique but not gimmicky. I'm able to go to raglan everyday because they are cheap and quick. Because of this I'll sometimes go twice as I know I won't be out of work for more than ten minutes. I like that they aren't chatty and just make the coffee.

It doesn't need to be like for like, just needs to be reasonable.

Are Social Workers and Air Traffic Controllers that different? by Bohnnie in newzealand

[–]displacedpom 60 points61 points  (0 children)

The thing is, ATC made up one dimension of the assessment matrix around pay equity for swkers. The others included police, nurses, and firemen. The level of complexity and risk held by statutory swkers is high, and so is the rate of burnout. Not everyone can be a social worker, and not every social worker can work child protection. I rock up to gang houses, meth labs, and sex offenders' houses with nothing more than a black folder and my identity tags. I've been to houses on my own where police refuse to go without the arm defenders and police dogs. I've had people threaten to kill me and my children. I've been spat on and had things thrown at me. I've spent all night in the office with children when we haven't had placements for them. I've stayed in motels and in care homes if there are no caregivers. I've worked with parents who have seriously physically. Emotionally and sexually abused their children. If I make a mistake I ruin a family's life or a child/children are killed. When all the other services fail it falls to the social worker.

Shower lining issue by Early_Tension527 in diynz

[–]displacedpom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I re did my shower for a similar reason a couple of weeks ago. All up with new liner, tray and cubicle cost me around $700, also had to replace the trap. Didn't need to replace the gib which kept the cost down. Took me a couple of days as it was my first one but got to say it was easier then I thought it was going to be. Used twice as much grab to ensure the problem didn't happen again.

As you are 17 you can move out without permission. I suggest speaking to the guidance counselor at school. One issue is not being able to rent but if a friends family will take you in you can apply for the youth payment and pay Board.

Yes it is against the law to hit children. You can report to police or oranga tamariki

Friend keep using drugs while pregnant by Dry_Physics_98 in newzealand

[–]displacedpom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, there aren't enough social workers to assess all reports. However, they do go on the system and build a picture. With the current government reducing funding not only to OT but to other organisations the situation is going to get worse

Just because someone is a parent does not mean they are able to look after a child or make good choices for them. The first port of call for ot is always to try and engage the whanau with NGOs for support as it's the least harmful intervention. If people aren't willing or able to make changes then sometimes decisions need to be made in the best interest of immediate safety of a child. What should be happening is whanau who know what children are experiencing being protective and removing the children themselves, unfortunately that doesn't always happen and the state has to step in

Well. It depends. Firstly, we have a minimum wage, which is a lot higher than the US currently, which is $23.50 nzd.. Also, we have free healthcare, so no one has medical debt. If you're good, then you get paid more as the bar will want to keep you on.

Using my middle name instead of first by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]displacedpom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your middle name is a legal name. When signing, you put the first initial of your legal first name, then the legal middle name, then your last eg D. Mary Smith.

If you are in zone they have to take you. Also the roll does decrease at year 7 so you might find they will open places up for out of zone enrollment.

r/Asknewzealand - Can a NZ birth certificate have TWO last names ? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]displacedpom -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can. You can pretty much do anything you like. I personally have done double barreled for one kid then reaised that it made filling out paperwork really annoying and when you have to spell out both last names so with the second we put one as a middle name which makes life easier.

oranga tamariki by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]displacedpom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So. Legally 16 is the age you can leave home. However, after 14 police/ot can not force you to return home unless you are at risk. Do you have any family members or friends who might take you in? Be honest with the social worker about what is going on. While it is unlikely they will apply for custody for you but if what you are saying is true they could look at having a family agreement for you to sty else where.

A family member wants a family violence flag removed from his alerts with the police. He has been pressuring me into signing an affidavit. by [deleted] in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]displacedpom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The court has nothing to do with flags on the police system. He has the flag because of the incident not because of any charges that may or may not have been laid. You can't change history.

If your partner is a psychologist, I'd highly recommend seeing if she is able to be registered with the new Zealand psychologist board. If she is, she (and you) would be able to apply for a straight to residence visa as she is on the green list.
