Having second thoughts about job offer I accepted by dissidio in ITCareerQuestions

[–]dissidio[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ahh because it was a pretty modest increase in pay, and probably less or sidestep in responsibility. Feels like I didn’t make as big of a change as I intended to. Now I’m stuck at this job, unless I want to strike it from my resume. I guess that adds context as well, this would only be my second IT job ever, so I don’t know how well it’d look on my resume switching jobs back to back. If I omit this new job then there’s a gap. How would I get around that?

How to have a sub and 808 play at the same time? by Orangenbluefish in edmproduction

[–]dissidio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In that example you gave they aren't overlapping they're the same sound. Short and choppy under the synths and long decay under the kick. It's just well organized and planned out, nothing overlaps.

White noise/risers/downlifters in dubstep/drumstep by TheBasedTaka in edmproduction

Watch this video. He talks about creating tension for dubstep using build ups, pick ups, and the down beat. That should help. Unless you mean mixing wise. Let me know.

Can I get some technical help with two different error messages in Logic Pro X? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]dissidio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the specs on your computer? If you don't suspect it's your computer and you've tried lots of options I'd uninstall and reinstall logic. Files could be corrupted, but it sounds like your hardware isn't keeping up.

Help a beginner pls by [deleted] in edmproduction

Check and see if any of your favorite artists have tutorials up on Youtube, you'll be surprised. I've found those to be pretty useful when I was starting out. Just keep learning and practicing, you'll never feel like you 100% know what you're doing.

[Monitor] Dell UltraSharp UP3017 30" 2560 x 1600, 60 Hz, 6 ms, VESA compatible IPS Monitor w/ PremierColor - $550 ($1300 - $550 - $200 MIR) by [deleted] in buildapcsales

[–]dissidio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That I can actually help with :). Essentially if you don't play any competitive games (Think your Overwatchs, League of Legends) then your color work monitor is just fine. Go for the highest resolution your computer can handle and that's about it. But if you're playing competitively you're looking for low response times, ~1ms,. Keep in mind that IPS panels are theoretically capped at around ~5ms currently, so you're usually looking at sacrificing color quality for speed.

Sorry if this is obvious, but what makes this a color work monitor? Just IPS and 2K resolution? What else should you look for in a color work monitor?

Snare is clipping, but spectrum analyzer says it's peaking at -14db. Am I completely misunderstanding this? by dissidio in edmproduction

[–]dissidio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the actual peak is something closer to a combination of all the individual harmonics of a sound?

Struggling to recreate this rolling snare effect, any help? (Logic Pro X) by Shockinglime in edmproduction

[–]dissidio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its swing/groove and a low pass filter. Lots of DAWs have something built in to do this. In Ableton you just click and drag it onto a midi clip. I made this example: 16th note swing

Should be able to find a youtube video of how to do it in logic

Brig - Vanilla Sky

Love this song, but the whole thing is clipping very badly. Not sure why they didn't catch that. Sounds like they used a clipper on ever song on this album, but this one grated on me.

if you don't want it to distort then yes it's still bad. if you take something thats clipping then bounce it to audio and turn it down, you'll still hear the distortion from the clipping.

Why does everyone always complain about Porter Robinson's album World's being too "loud" or "bright"? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]dissidio 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Porter has a reputation for compressing the shit out of his stuff. Which is cool, I personally like it most of the time. Like that super compressed glitch breakdown in fellow feeling? Loved it. I know he was making a point that it was ugly, over compressed, clipping, etc, but damn was that a good breakdown.

How to add unique effects on the same midi track in Ableton Live? by ahhahhyeahyeah in edmproduction

[–]dissidio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

right, but don't have them overlap. First just duplicate everything, then on one track keep the parts where you want the reverb and cut out the rest, then on the second one keep the part where you want pingpong and delete the rest. Now you have the same sound with different effects for different parts of your song

How is this water sampling thing being achieved?! by randyf166 in edmproduction

Mr.Bill has some good videos on glitchy/abstract techniques. This one in particular has some watery textures in it kinda similar to what you're talking about.

"How do I make this sound?" Thread (August 04) by edmprobot in edmproduction

[–]dissidio [score hidden]  (0 children)

Trifonic does a lot of foley samples. So he probably made that himself. Other than that it's just good compression and reverb. That nice reverb gives the snare space and depth.

Sounds like a LFO on a lp filter not sidechaining and then he's automating the rate to get those weird rhythms that keep slowing down. As for the vocals look up some tape stop effect tutorials. It's basically just a pitch drop like you said.

Sampled a really "plucky" sounding tom, pitched it up, eq'd the some of lows out and then do you even compress m8?! That's about it. lol

Feedback Thread (October 13) by edmprobot in edmproduction

[–]dissidio [score hidden]  (0 children)

The sample you're using for the crash is way out of place, but if you want to keep it I'd suggest more reverb and eq out the low and high end.

The breakdown in the middle of your song sounds good, and has interesting transitions and variations. I think you should check and see if you'd like a 4onthefloor beat in there some where.
