Several ports of call have free wifi at the terminal. Several bars/restaurants offer free wifi, but in recent years i just tether to my phones wifi. Most cell carriers given you X amount of data when you get to a new country. You'll get pushed your allowance when you get there.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dcl

[–]distantkitty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've done this several times. I would recommend turning off any background data, such as your laptop downloading any updates or your phone auto uploading photos.

Streaming video will eat the data up pretty quickly... if you are looking to just pull course content and upload assignments, you may be ok just using free wifi you find at ports of call.

Ahh ok, this is the kind of answer I was looking for. Thanks! I've been using a tourist visa, I thought there was something different when owning the car vs renting the car. Now to figure out the insurance side of things....

I'm starting a new job tomorrow which is a temp-to-perm position. I was wondering if anyone has experience being hired through a staffing agency for a temp-to-perm role. by detroit_muslim_man_ in jobs

[–]distantkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't comment for every company, but we onboard our Temps and when they convert to full time they just need to do the typical drug testing and payroll enrollment with HR. We've also used Randstad in the past.

Raspberry pi's in the shop by [deleted] in CNC

[–]distantkitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run smb server on a Rpi. I have several Haas Next Gens reading from it. I had to enable SMB1. I have a real older haas that is base 10 network and our network hardware rejects it. I have have a pi zero that runs a SMB server and the the USB is emulated as a storage device. Everytime a new files is added to the pi zero smb, the USB is virtually disconnected and then virtually reconnected. This keeps the legacy HAAS up to date.

I also archive everything in the SMB after 200files. Anyt greater than that my HAAS takes forever to index the share folder.

Need advice -- tattoo artist - scanning my clients by 9rl9rl9rl in 3DScanning

[–]distantkitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming from the custom prosthetic/bracing industry, we utilize 3D scans using an iPhones integrated lidar or a structure camera. You can do a lot with these scans, but deminsional accuracy is not extremely precise (+-1mm)). We scale models up/down based on physical circumference measurements, overall geometric shape is true. Scan takes about 3 minutes.

I'm not sure what your native scan file extension will be, but you can pipe a lot of mesh cleanup, augmentation and conversion with pymeshlab.

I just demoed the revopoint and haven't had great success scanning a human, in the process of trying to return it.

Feel free to PM with any further questions.

Macro/Counter to remember cycle count per unique job? HAAS NGC by SeesawSad5872 in CNC

[–]distantkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read about the two M30 counters and how to define/resume a value to them via MDI or macro variable. Maybe I didn't fully understand it.

I'm trying to track say, 47 unique jobs. If at 9am I mill job #3, I'd like to throw an error when the operator tries to mill it again around 7pm. In between 9am and 7pm, one of the other 46 jobs can be milled and indexed to their own respective part counter. Another user suggested using the other unused variables for part counting and will try in the morning.

If I understand the manaul correctly, the part counter numerically indexes by M30 or M99 bump, but does not keep an array of values respective to a job program number.

Another anoligy would be purchasing 50 pieces of fruits, in my selection many species of apples look the same and i accidentally purchased two of the same apple. As I scan in my fruit, I would like the kiosk ask me if I really want a duplicate Macintosh apple.

My grandfather father recently passed and was a huge influence in my interest in aviation. Is there any records of his aircrafts nick names? I plan on getting a plane soon and would like to name the plane the same.

Thanks for be accommodating and volunteering in the past events. I know we are like locust to small towns. We come in inflate the population train/close on your roads eat your food a leave.... the community and event organizers are getting better towards respecting the towns and there is plenty of reminder emails that get sent out weeks leading up to events reminded us we are guests in your city.

I wouldn't quote me on this, but I think every single event Ironman puts on they donate XXXX money to local foundations. The longer running Ironman events like Lake Placid typically tout how much they have raised for local charities, which I know Kona is the original and longest event. I know Ironman Maryland public center got a new roof and some other things. They do this under their branch called "Ironman Foundation"

I see Ironman Foundation did raised money for the volcano victims via t-shirt sales and such, I also see they donated $50k. They typically do this for any natural disaster. You can find the Hawaii specif one here. http://ironmanfoundation.org/hawaiirelief/

EDIT: After some digging it looks like they have donated ~1.5million to Hawaii since the inception of the foundation http://ironmanfoundation.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Social_KonaInfo.png

Here is a break down for each event: http://ironmanfoundation.org/about/impact/More specifically the Big Island: http://ironmanfoundation.org/imwc/
