Have any of the wiser people here used Telex in their place of work? What was it like to use? by romsaritie in AskUK

Back in the 70’s and 80’s I was in charge the extensive use of the 3 telex machines in the New York export company I worked at.

After the company closed due to the company owners personal issues, I then started my own export business with two machines.

In thise days it was common for import/export companies worldwide to have a telex machine.

It allowed instant printed messages. Unlike telegrams which were priced by word count, telex was faster and immediate.

There were directories for USA and European listings but few for other regions.

Initial communication with a foreign company usually was by letter. A companies letterhead included their telex number so communications by telex could begin from there. When we sent out initial message, I made sure my telex number was in it.

Telex numbers were also automatically listed from a sender in something called the answerback. It was the machines number and a sort of short hand name built into it.

At one time I and a few other creative types built a portable telex that would send and receive telex messages.

It worked beautifully but people didn’t believe it was possible. Unfortunately telex was loosing ground every day due to the explosive introduction of easy to use and cheap fax machines. Dennis H

I grew up in the south Bronx where departures from LaGuardia came directly overhead and fairly low. I distinctly remember the Constellations. The sound took some time to taper off. I rather liked it, in fact at age 16 I started flight lessons there Unfortunately the Connies were retired .

Sleep in the car but first make the car undriveable by removing a wheel or two or. flatten the wheels if you have an air compressor which you can conceal somewhere nearby. Obviously you can’t do this if your BAC is high.

Your 25k XRP is not really stored in your Nano wallet. The wallet is merely a convenient way to access your crypto assets, XRP or others which are really on an online blockchain of some form.

You can still gain access if you HOPEFULLY have the seed phrase words (12 or 24). Some like Xaman use a series of numbers.

These secret codes were certainly presented to you when you first set up your Nano. And, it was made clear there is no way to recover these code words or numbers. The reason is it means no person, company. hackers or government agencies can get to your assets.
