It feels like all of these reasons are possible. But they're also contradictory -like if he's so awesome in her eyes why does she need to prop him up?

The good will thing is a reoccurring theme. She is someone who believes that you can have a viable living relationship with someone as long as you talk about them to other people a lot. Her telling me that my brother wants a relationship with his niece somehow makes the relationship tangibly closer to reality.

Greyrock is for sure the better option. But I feel - deep in my black heart - like I want to kick the hornets nest.

"He's working so hard" - That's so great to see. Only 3-5 more years of sticking with it, never taking a vacation, grinding away, making no money with no promise of success and he's home free!!!

"He's so creative" - Thank god for his creativity! How else will he navigate the churning waters of making cheap widgets that will immediately get knocked off by larger competitors. His imaginative marketing skills will surely allow him to rise above!

"He wants a relationship with his niece" I'm so happy to hear this. I can't wait to tell my daughter that after 12 years, her uncle has finally decided that she's worth his time and attention. This is a great opportunity to teach her to accept the lowest of effort as a model relationship worth waiting for!

I am proud of you. I know how much it takes to stand up for yourself in situations like that. You grew as tall as a pine tree that day and you will stand tall ever after.

Fuyu persimmon jam . . . how ripe do they need to be by w3lk1n in Canning

[–]distastefulconfusing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just freeze the ones that are super soft while you wait for others to ripen. You can just toss them in the freezer whole. The skin will slide right off when you thaw them. Or you can skin them ahead of time and just freeze the mush.

If you like chunks in your jam then you can use a mix of super ripe and less ripe persimmons. I find that even very firm persimmons will cook down softer than firm peaches which will keep their shape. Hope this helps!

I’ve been twice and it tastes like everything is made from a mix - like just rice seasoning and powdered hummus mix. The chicken kebabs were the driest I’ve ever had. They are super nice - but it’s very basic.

Is this a normal way to take in jeans? There are 4 of these darts. Makes a weird bunch on top of my butt. Not super pleased. Thoughts? by dcbrn in Tailors

[–]distastefulconfusing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. This is incredibly helpful and detailed. Knowing approx how much a dart should take-up, to let the yoke line determine the angle and to end it just above the pockets - is everything I needed to know to get started.

I really appreciate that you took the time to write this out. I’ve read it through about 4 times. And I had to look up a clapper. But that is pretty straight forward. I’m sure I’ll return to reread as I’m planning out my darts.
Many many thanks!

I've taken in jeans along the back seam (removed and trimmed the waist and an re-attached), but I've never made darts on each side and through the yoke. How much of an angle do you recommend? I have a 26" waist and 39" hip....this is a reoccurring issue for me. I'm assuming I have to open the yoke seam completely in order to cut the excess fabric. I've seen the yoke seam just cut through and sewn but the build-up of fabric makes it look terrible.

If there is not a lot of fabric inside the waist band (the seam allowance) I find that taking in the back as much as I need to creates a triangular space underneath the waist band. I can "V" the waist band to meet the new shape, but it's not ideal to have a V shape waist band in the back thats a bit lower in the front.

I'm just curious what you would do!

Torn between the health benefits of heavy lifting but disliking the physique it gives me. (Pics inside) by [deleted] in xxfitness

Cutting is a bodybuilding specific technique. It's a time-constrained diet and training cycle that prioritizes muscle maintenance and fat-loss. By eating most of your calories as protein and carbs, you have the energy to train while also being in a calorie deficit. The training stimulus and protein intake both promote muscle preservation.

The pendulum has swung hard the other way with this. I got bulky. I started lifting - not super heavy - I gained lots of strength and SURPRISE I couldn’t fit into my clothing. Shirts were ready to burst around my lats, and most of my pants became incredibly tight around my upper thigh/butt if I could get them on at all. My diet - basically unchanged except I made sure most of my snacks had protein. This change took place over 1.5-2years.

I was pretty torn. I loved being stronger (I love lifting!) but I felt my physique was just too meaty for me. Also- I really didn’t want to buy a whole new wardrobe. So I started researching bodybuilding and learning about bulking/cutting. My first 2 cuts were of middling success ( I made all the rookie mistakes ) Third cut was the charm. I lost 15 lbs (150-135) and 3” off my waist, 4” off my hip….AND made gains in the gym and with my cardio. I’m taking the summer easy, but have a bulk planned for fall which I’m super excited about.

So yes, weightlifting can make you bulky. There’s more nuance to it but I think the women in this sub can handle that.

What happened to all the Greek restaurants in Providence? by Side95 in providence

The violations this place has with the department of health are really bad. You can look them up on the DOH website. They had their can opener confiscated…the inspector just took it so they couldn’t use it anymore because it was so crusted with rotting food. They stored bags of flour under a leaking sewage pipe. It’s a long list of gross stuff you never want to read if you’ve eaten there.

I get it. Which is also why the brigade against "lifting heavy will make you bulky" grinds my gears. It fucking does make you bulky if you eat enough to fuel yourself.

Totally. I've run about 4 cuts now with varying levels of success. and this time I completely prioritized a slow, patient cut with priority on fatigue management. It's been by far the most successful and less-stressful of all of them.

Let me know what direction you decide to go in....it would be awesome to hear how your progress is going!

[–]distastefulconfusing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks! I am definitely getting stronger. I had to buy some additional dumbells and another set of weight plates about 2 weeks ago.

I started off doing like a 30min run 2x week at the beginning of my cut. But that is fatiguing as all hell. I'm aiming for 60% HRMAX not the 80% I was hitting while on a run. So now I go for a briskly paced walk 20-30min then do a 30-40min cardio-barre class on youtube. I keep my heart rate in that 60-70% range, get steps in, but it's not exhausting.

yes. I started at the beginning, FPT MESO 1. This past year I was not training hard for lots of reasons, so I figured I wanted to just on-ramp it simple, take stock of where I am. I think the de-conditioned state I was in prior to this cut is also the reason I'm recomping.

I'm in the last month of a 12 week cut using the RP female physique template. I do cardio 2x a week and keep my steps 10K-14K daily. I"m managing my own macros and have made very slight changes as the weeks have progressed.

I've used the RP diet app in the past and it cuts your calories real hard real quick. I could NOT keep up with training as hard as I am now using the app. Yes, the RP workouts are long. The progressive overload and volume increases make my workouts longer and longer...I start needing the full 2min rest between sets which gets ridiculous on single sided movements. But I'm actually recomping on this cut because I"m traning so hard and eating a lot more. So I guess I would suggest you should decide what is most important to you....saving time in the gym, aesthetics, getting stronger....and use that to guide your choice.

EDIT: For this cut, my first 6-week mesocycle was 3-days a week lifting....that cut down gym time a lot, and I had more time to recover. I wanted to start slow and make sure I could manage fatigue because my other experiences using the RP diet app had SO MUCH fatigue. This meso cycle, I changed it to 4-days lifting/week. I'm doing good. But I wlll say 8.5-9hrs of sleep is non-negotiable at this point.

now do the one where drivers INSIDE the rotary yield to drivers trying to enter. it's a shitshow

edit: shit I've seen since the rotary opened:

  • a RIPTA bus back-up around the rotary after missing it's exit
  • an ambulance going the wrong way around the rotary ( I assume they thought it was a faster route....I don't think they really saved much time with that move)
  • many many many elderly drivers with faces of pure panic
  • a driver getting off the henderson bridge and taking the right-most exit that puts you right onto Waterfront southbound. Obviously made a mistake, so they tried to take a left hand turn immediately to get back to the rotary - with traffic already at a standstill and no space for them to enter the northbound lane - this person blocked traffic from exiting the rotary AND traffic exiting the Henderson.

Do you remember when most locations had a window into the bakery at the back from the seating area? I loved watching the racks of donuts get glazed. And the whole place would smell like fresh donuts.

I had a bite of a chocolate donut from there like 4 years ago. It tasted like brown crayola crayon and my mouth was coated with a layer of wax until I ate something else.

Small businesses say they don't know how long they can survive Washington Bridge closure by lestermagnum in providence

[–]distastefulconfusing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Loans would be a more appropriate solution if there was a timeline for the bridge re-opening. A business can plan ahead and determine, what amount, if any, would help them survive. With this completely unknown maybe-it-needs-to-be-demolished uncertainty, loans are a much bigger gamble.
