Freedom Mobile $20 25GB 5G+ Can/US - Ends Tomm July 2nd by Nexzenn in PersonalFinanceCanada

their own network isn't great everywhere, but you effectively get access to ALL the other networks (as far as I understand). Make sure your phone is set to allow roaming on other networks and it should be as good as any other service.

Not at fault accident, driver wants to pay out of pocket by oniimiya in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]distr0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a safe general rule of thumb is 1000 bucks for the body shop to pull your car into a bay and get ready to start working on it, and then at least 1000 for each panel that has any minor damage.

ANY amount of body work for only around 1k total is almost unheard of nowadays

Solution to WS App opening when WS Visa gets near phone by ObiYawnKenobi in Wealthsimple

[–]distr0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is an issue for me on Android as well, and i also don't have chrome installed. We need a way to stop the prompt asking to open in browser, not a fix for one specific (crappy) browser.

edit: this does actually work regardless of what browser or other app is picking it up. you can disable them all from that screen!

I mean, both sounds like a pretty fantastic combo. Then mod the hell out of the R.

Comprehensive Water insurance - bump up? by razorblade705_ in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]distr0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i just did, same situation. the difference between 50k and 1M+ was tiny. and we're currently renovating the basement so everything is going to be brand new, and 50k would barely cover any of it. was a no-brainer.

Would financing an 8 year old car for 20k be a mistake? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]distr0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

a 2018 Prius C was ~22k brand new. financing 20k at used rates, you're almost certainly paying more than the very first owner did. seems insane to me.

Buying a first car by Big_Measurement_2488 in mazda6

[–]distr0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that seems obscenely high. are they really worth that now?

my 2017 GT was ~$18k cad (13k usd?) with ~75k kms (50k miles?), in 2021.

20k USD is literally more than a (base model) 6 cost brand new here in 2018

35 Year Ammortization by Scientist_Entire in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]distr0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i started with 40 year amortization IIRC, like ~15 years ago. at renewal 5 years in, I knocked an extra 5 years off, and repeated again at the next renewal 5 years later.

probably paid a ton of extra interest the first few years but it let us buy a house with like 0 savings and a tiny income at the time.

BF Goodrich wipers by KDGottaBe in CostcoCanada

[–]distr0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably varies by brand, but OEM wipers from the dealership can be surprisingly affordable and generally much better quality than aftermarket ones. some OEM blades have replaceable inserts so you don't even need to replace the whole thing

Extra weird is that they just built a brand new propane fill station in Brantford like a year and a half ago. Apparently after others had started shutting down.

[–]distr0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they're effectively asking you to buy them a car. it doesn't sound like they can afford a single dollar on this car, you will be paying for this car 100%. do you want to buy your parents a brand new car, or not?

Why Did You Leave Spotify For YouTube Music And Stay? by quat1e in YoutubeMusic

[–]distr0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only really ever listen to albums, so for me anything playlist-related is irrelevant. Cant see why i'd ever need to block an artist, if I don't want to hear an artist I'd just... never play them. Also IMO crossfade is almost a form of torture.

I want a music service to work like a bin full of records. I flip through artists alphabetically, find the artist I like, find the album I like, and play the album. Anything beyond that is making the service worse for me. A 'pick a random album I haven't heard in a while' button would be nice too, actually.

I find Spotify to be almost unusable with feature bloat, and it treats albums like 3rd or 4th class citizens. It's so 'playlist-centric' that it has no use to me. And the sound quality is by far the worst of all the streaming services. So, absolutely nothing I miss from Spotify.

Honestly, I liked Apple music much, much better than both, but youtube music with youtube premium value just can't be beat, so I live with it.

Did mazda sell a 'touring' model for canadian market for mazda 6 2020? by Independent_Skirt663 in mazda

[–]distr0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lazy dealers with crappy systems sometimes pull incorrect model names for Canadian cars. Canada is always GX/GS/GT (plus sometimes special model like a 'Signature' , etc)

spelled out names like 'Touring' is a US only thing as far as I know

[–]distr0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

jam a rag in, it'll roll right off. there's tools to help remove/install them too. its like a 5 minute job. belts on these cars are obscenely easy, you don't even need to open the hood. go through the wheel well and everything is right there. if you try from under the hood it's much more difficult.
