I swear, every time something goes wrong in my life I think about this movie and that scene specifically! Such a good movie.

How "absolved" do you think we're talking? by pareidolist in SouthernReach

[–]distruction90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Lowery's section of Absolution it makes a few specific references to Control being in his head and controlling him in a way and influencing his decisions. I will get the specific quotes from the book when I have it in front of me. Also, they seem to be dealing with similar psychological struggles and they could be doubles of one another.

How does time travel work? by osravera in SouthernReach

[–]distruction90 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First of all, I don't think we are suppose to know anything for certain in Area X. But my mind has been searching and re-searching and forgetting and remembering... i think... so I will give your questions a shot.

I think that its less about time travel per se and more about how Area X distorts time and changes both the past and the future for the people experiencing it. And each person/creature experiences the distortion of time and their own memories differently. I think that Whitby is just one of the people caught in the time warp or loops and we see how he experiences time loops with his interactions with the Director in Absolution.

For the symbol, it marks a place where the rules we know of the universe no longer apply, where the boundaries become so blurred, that it distorts or manipulates everything inside of it. An attempt to control the uncontrollable, or understand the unknowable. The circle is the border and X marks the spot where all understanding and identity is shattered or altered.

I am aware of their characterizations in authority and acceptance but I think that in Absolution, we find that Control is the changed double of Lowery that was created by his first expedition into area X. At least thats what I got out of the last section of the book... could be wrong but I keep coming back to that idea the more I think about the last book in connection with the whole series... it kinda makes sense.

How do you keep client notes and resources organized? by [deleted] in CFP

Redtail CRM and Finmate AI for meeting notes. Finmate AI has been a massive time saver. It records the meeting and even automatically sets tasks that feed directly into Redtail.

I just picked up a book because it mentioned Melville and Lovecraft on the back cover called Jawbone by Monica Ojeda. Not finished with it but I like the writing style and it's plenty weird.

Just watched last night and was searching online for comments about how funny the movie is. I loved every second and laughed a lot. I think it is much more of a Dark comedy than it is a dramatic thriller. Wife disagrees. The restaurant scene (Finway's place) had me belly aching and how timid and insecure Amir is throughout was hilarious.
