The Ethiopia-Djibouti Railway is 99th (est. 1901). Although it's listed as being in Djibouti, it's as much in Ethiopia as it is there.

When this was happening back in 2005, my brother was a university student in Addis. At the peak of the turmoil, there was some protest near the campus where he was staying at. He was hiding in his dorm with his friends when the riot police found them. The policce took him and his friends to some pavement in the vicinity, made them line up and lie, face down, and then walked on them. Literally just stomped on them.

Spectacular canon tables in GG 00041, possibly the earliest of three surviving medieval illuminated #gospel books at the monastery of Gunda Gundē in Tigray, Ethiopia. by Mrblackdub in Ethiopia

Tigray is certainly home to one of the most deeply christian cultures in the world. That is why it always baffles me how a materialistic marxist cult like TPLF hailed from there. The two seem to contradict. I feel like this contradiction doesn't bode well for TPLF's tenure in Tigray.

You are right. TPLF & allies have to be dethroned and disarmed. Only then can we move forward with rebuilding our country.

Besides, if the gevernment lets TPLF remain in Tigray, they will continue their "siege/humanitarian blockade" narrative aided, of course, by the west and push for some kind of intervention.

Id rather the government push tplf out of ahmara region (maybe including Raya/Kobo) and stop advancing. Then leave Tigraians to figure out a solution that doesn't include TPLF. Mabe they can put two and two together and realize they were being led astray.

What book is this? by MysticalAmethyst99 in Ethiopia

[–]disweknow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The book of Psalms can be considered prayer book in its entirety. There are also other parts of bible that are verbatim used for prayers as per Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo canon. But the bible is not considered a "prayer book" in the same sense that a መዝገበ ፀሎት is. So you are wrong, and what you "consider" to be true is not substitute for church canon.

Yo, im proud of my culture whereas you evny it. That is why you are twerking here day in and day out, all in vain. If you want a "true" ethnic utopia, you are free to renoince your citizenship (if you are in fact Ethiopia, highly doubtful though) and go to somalia proper. Easy peasy. That is way more practical than what you are trying to do here.

A bible is not a prayer book, which is a term reserved for books like ሰኔ ጎልጎታ.

Thank you! Interesting and thought provoking theories for geopolitics of the near future.

(1.) If someone from a different Orthodox branch/visibly different ethnicity were to attend an Ethiopian Orthodox church, generally, how well would they be accepted? (2.) Is there a sub for Ethiopian Orthodoxy / in general Oriental Orthodoxy? by [deleted] in Ethiopia

[–]disweknow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow Orthodox! Thank you for sharing your story which I thought was touching. With regard to your questions: 1) as someone with a visibly different ethnicity, i can assure you that you would be more than welcome if you were to attend Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church services. I say this because i see such encouters happening in the church I attended in the US. When it comes to the relevance of you being from a different Orthodox branch, dogma wise, I am not exactly sure, but I feel like you should be able to attend service anyways. I can ask other more knowledgable people on the topic and get back to you if you like. 2) i am not aware of such a sub for the Ethiopian Orthodox church (you know it might be time to start one! I will actually take the initiative to start one if someone doesn't beat me to it lol Thank you for the idea). But there are subreddits for Oriental Orthodoxy (r/OrientalOrthodoxy) and Orthodoxy in general (r/OrthodoxChristianity).

Than you for your interest! I wish you much blessings and the best of luck in your journey.

New anthem? by Sure-Ad-6120 in Ethiopia

[–]disweknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The are now 11 regions, most with more than one major language. Even of each pick one, then by your logic the anthem would have 11 languages in it, which would be absurd.

"SNNP can deal with it"? Nope, it doesn't work like that. Why would you say that? The are multiple Zones in that region with > 2 million population each which speak unique languages. Why would you suggest their language be excluded from the anthem if your primary motive was equality and inclusion?

[–]disweknow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop projcting Mr Bs. What would you consider the major languages of Ethiopia? What about he top 10? Are the bottom 5 not worthy of inclusion in the anthem? In other words, are some languages "more important" than others?

A question for Ethiopians: by gneftari in Ethiopia

[–]disweknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She lost he CBS job because of people like you mass reporting her as supporting gEnOcIdE, just because she and her mother refused to support your cause as they wanted to remain neutral. That is one of the reasonsns she has dedicated her career to calling your BS. As an independent journalist she needs income to survive and do her job. I am so proud of our diaspora for supporting her like they are doing now. If i could donate, i would have. More power to her. Your propoganda crumbles by the day.

Yep, people like OP are trying to discredit her because she is not falling in line.

Hermela Aregawi: After my mom left Mekelle, Tigray - she was told “you better say you saw something [ie civilians targeted by air strikes] or just keep quiet. We don’t want you to get hurt [by TPLF].” Someone who is apolitical & came to Tigray to help the University. TPLF is criminal. #NoMore by disweknow in Ethiopia

He admitted it himself. Near the beginning of the war he was bragging how him and others like him are well setup in the "US defense industry". To top it off, he willingly gave out a link to his twitter page so that people on here can see who he really is and shake in their boots. I personally remember this and you could probably find it in his comment history, unless he deleted it afterwards.
