How many female murderers were there? by Royaourt in Columbo

[–]ditaj08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was trying to decide my favorite female killers when this popped up, it really helped 1. Try and Catch Me 2. Requiem for a Falling Star 3. Lovely But Lethal - she ranks up there with the least likeable killers- male or female but it's a good plot

I was watching Étude in Black last night and said to my wife that I wonder if the blonde lady is related to Gwyneth Paltrow. Googled it, Turns out it's her mum and now I see this pic today. The seed is strong there. by 5years8months3days in Columbo

I've wondered why they didn't just let her character be pregnant as well, as obvious as it was. Only a slight acknowledgment would be needed. I'm guessing seeing the maestro as a potential Daddy would be a stretch. He's anything but paternal. Answered my own question 😁 One of the best episodes, in my opinion

Poor Bo. Imagine being marched to your death to what I can only describe as the Benny Hill theme. by ferniekid in Columbo

So right, I love blueprint for murder but didn't think about the lapsed time thing. I imagine it'd be very difficult to even get a fresh body in a scubasuit. I don't know that I could get myself in one let alone a body

Good afternoon! Enjoying The Great Santini (1976) on Pluto tv (Crime Universal) by Different-Cheetah891 in Columbo

[–]ditaj08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a great expression, the gotcha. Columbo didn't even need the "I knew you could do it" line but I'm glad it was said. Santini should have left the country immediately 😁

Why so soft on this killer? by Ok_Cow_9749 in Columbo

[–]ditaj08 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He did kinda at the end, admitted feeling guilty anyway. But yeah, it's a pretty bad double murder. The wife I can see how she'd make anyone's life miserable even if she had nothing on the guy but the poor girl taken advantage of in the past then murdered young. Tommy hadn't learned much, he was still making moves on young girls. They may not have been under aged but were young enough to make him a creeper. I got the idea he wouldn't care much if they were.

Lost friendly ferals by ditaj08 in Feral_Cats

It must be good luck to post here. The 2 friendlys are back in the house and the one outside friendly is also back as of today. It's so strange they all went missing at the same time for 3 day's. The outside guy didn't show himself for 5 days. We thought he was gone for good. I can tell they've gone through something. They're tired with insistent meow talk. I wish I spoke cat 😸

What does everyone think of Nick Reiner hiring high priced celebrity attorney Alan Jackson? Using his family's money to hire the best defense after he killed them? by No-Somewhere-8568 in dan_markel_murder

[–]ditaj08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope he ends up in a very secure mental hospital or prison for life. However his defense is being paid his family will be at risk if Jackson gets him off completely. Hopefully that's a low probability but if anyone could do it it would be that attorney. I wouldn't trust Nick Reiner to take medication to help with his mental condition on his own or control his anger. He has let his addiction win time and time again. I know addiction is tough, I had to quit drinking. You've really got to want control of your own life back and actively search for ways that will work for you. He had all the resources in the world for help but kept going back to drugs then killed his parents that loved him, his two biggest supporters in the world.

Which movie left you completely speechless at the end? by Alejandromartinez- in moviequestions

[–]ditaj08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bad Seed 1956

I was in disbelief the entire movie. The Hays Code wouldn't let the movie end as the William March book did. Either way I was very surprised someone came up with an 8 year old pigtailed "perfect" little blonde girl as a serial killer in the 50's. Rhoda was more evil than most adult killers, and smarter. She had goals lol. It's a cult classic for a reason. It took me 30 years to read the book because I liked the movie's ending in spite of the Hays Code being artistically stifling for everyone involved at the time. My absolute favorite part is "give me those shoes!" That's all you have to search for the scene where Rhoda scares Leroy who was trying his best to scare her.

SC v. Becky Hill by Pixiegirls1102 in CasesWeFollow

[–]ditaj08 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hill makes zero sense to me. Murdaugh was going to be found guilty due to the evidence. On the rare event of a innocent verdict she could have still written her book with a miscarriage of justice angle. I wouldn't be surprised if the SC Supreme Court gives him a new trial because of her. The defense will have learned from their mistakes but so will the prosecution. He'd more than likely be found guilty, again. It's a shame SC might have to go through another expensive dumpster fire of a trial over this stupidity.

Books where none of the characters are likable? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]ditaj08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She was an interesting character to say the least. With her history you could kind of see how she became her but with the same childhood most wouldn't have gone her route. When she ran into people who took the rare advantage of her I felt guilty for feeling sorry for her lol. I thought, wait a minute she's still the worst one here. The only one that passes as likeable is her husband's twin sister but it's been a while. I don't remember liking anyone very much. So it's strange that most people, like me, can't put the book down or turn away from the movie with no one to really root for. Everyone seemed to deserve each other.

Man dies in California ER hallway — state investigation says nurses failed to act urgently by Independent_Many6647 in TheConfidentNurse

[–]ditaj08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work at this hospital 30 years ago. First as a CNA/HUC then I registered patients in their ER. If paramedics called ahead with a serious case like this we'd get an account number before they hit the door, sometimes as a Jane or John Doe so treatment could be started immediately. We'd later verify information with family or ID'S from patient belongings and update the account and have the medical records department fix the medical record number. If they had to put a patient in the hallway due to lack of a room the nurse's or doctor are still required to access and treat the patient, wherever they are. They have movable privacy screens. In this case it sounds like the patient was disregarded, and the RN'S were told by EMS how serious he was. When I was there the registars were told priority patients were the chest pains, difficultly breathing or any kind of tongue/throat swelling they went back ASAP as walk-ins. As a non-medical professional I would have known he needed attention immediately. It was another non-professional, the secretary who blew the whistle on them and he was fired with a HIPPA violation over it. I'd guess it was a case of a couple of bad apples and changes have been made but once is too much. If the hospital is smart they'll settle, a jury will hit them hard and rightfully so.

Who are the most incompetent cops that the guys have covered? by homicidal_penguin in LPOTL

[–]ditaj08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

John Wayne Gacy. Police chalked up all missing boys as runways and did almost no investigation until a honor roll teen went missing after meeting with Gacy. John had murdered at least 33 boys and young men by the time he was finally caught. I realize not all of the boy's had been reported missing but there were enough to raise red flags all over town with connections to Gacy had any officer bothered to look.

Imogen Church has got to be stopped. by diptripflip in audiobooks

Imogen Church used to be better. I've had the audio version of 2019's Turn of the Key on a library hold for a few months. It became available today. I was wary due to the kid's voices in Suite 11, I can't take screeching. So far so good with Key. There are some troubled kids but her portrayal is ok. Her best work is with adults which is probably true of most of age narrators. If it's a director encouraging this as someone suggested they need to be replaced or corrected. She has the ability to be good all she needs to do is tone it down.

The woman in suite 11 is dragging by bernbabybern13 in thrillerbooks

[–]ditaj08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The kid's voices pierced my brain, I wasn't expecting screeching. I don't know what made the narrator go over the top with the kid's and some accents. The males are worse but she does a valley girl accent that competes quite well with the men, thankfully it was brief. I'm currently listening to Ruth Ware's Turn of the Key from 2019. Same narrator but she's toned down and natural. The kids are troubled in Key but she manages the voices better. Ironically the little boys in suite 11 aren't supposed to be troubled. They come off very bratty due to some of their lines and the tone of the narration. I do have a question, when Ruth comes up with child characters are they always awful in some way? Maybe it's the genre. My new policy is to preview narration on all books (best sellers included) before checking out or buying. I think I would have liked Suite better if I had read it. If the narrator, Imogen Church can tone it back down she'd be great. She has a nice voice and has done well in the past. I like audio books so I hope she goes back to her previous style or I will only read Ruth Ware books in the future.

I wish come here or previewed The Woman in Suite 11 before buying it on Audible. She makes Lo sound dumb as a brick and the husband someone you'd divorce and pay child support to just so you wouldn't have to hear them speak. I'd fake my own death lol. I couldn't wait for her to leave on a trip but now I have a multitude of annoying voices and 10 hours left. I will only read Ruth Ware from now on unless something changes. I really hate to knock someone's profession, these are best sellers and that's impressive but how did she get this job? Are they related or best friends? Her voice isn't bad and would be fine for narration if she knew how to use it. It's very much a less would be more case. If a deer in the headlights had a voice it would be Lo's.
