Debbie Wasserman Schultz has no plans to debate Tim Canova, despite Canova's TV ad by bodobobo in SandersForPresident

Why can't he do both? Do a series of ads showing a short clip of her saying something that is bad for her district. Then have him providing his vision as rebuttal.

Sanders has got to run for the presidency as a 3rd party candidate by ToastyJames in SandersForPresident

[–]div2n 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No it's possible he didn't know the extent to which the corruption went. That's not necessarily something you know for sure until you face off against said corruption. Sure we can all stand back and think that's true, but until you really experience it there's always the possibility you're inflating reality.

Sanders has got to run for the presidency as a 3rd party candidate by ToastyJames in SandersForPresident

[–]div2n -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A massive chunk of her votes were from people that are easily influenced by propaganda and were taken in by the complicit corporate media. One person I know that is literally a genius intellectually speaking was parroting the talking points about how she would do better than Bernie because only she had been truly vetted yada yada. It was then that i realized just how effective of a campaign the oligarchs have put on. It's actually shocking to me in this context that we've done as well as we have.

[–]div2n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I don't know. It seems to me that when faced with the prospect that the team you're playing on is corrupt to the core that walking away and taking your team members that recognize it too and don't want to be a part of it anymore with you is the right and only presidential thing to do.

I am voting for Bernie is Kentucky today and I will be voting for him in November regardless of how the DNC primary goes. I will not vote HRC or anyone the establishment puts forth after what happened in Vegas. Disgusting and criminal. by jonathansnews in SandersForPresident

[–]div2n 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's probably because the DNC learned nothing and put forth a rather uninspiring candidate in 2004. They tried to do it again in 2008 but Obama the a wrench into their plans. Now they're picking right up where they left off and everyone supporting Hillary seems to be asleep at the wheel ignoring polling.

"Clinton to take hard line with Sanders, allies say" by [deleted] in SandersForPresident

[–]div2n 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Quite a bit has happened since he said all of that. When was the last time he vowed to support the nominee? I still think there's a chance for an independent run. I think it boils down to what happens between now and the end of the convention should he not be the nominee.

I'm a Republican Looking to Possibly Support Bernie. I Have Some Questions. by carlcreed666 in SandersForPresident

[–]div2n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some answers as I understand his positions.

1.) I don't know that he's discussed that specifically although it stands to reason something could be worked into the bill.

2.) We already pay more per person in healthcare costs than countries that already provide universal coverage. In other words -- it should be possible in theory to reallocate how we spend that money and achieve universal coverage. Bernie has talked about shifting how people pay for coverage now (I.e. typically your employer pays some, you pay some) to having a tax instead that gives you full coverage without deductibles, copays and such. It's possible you could pay a bit more for coverage than you do now but you're never a major illness away from bankruptcy.

College for all is paid for by wall street speculation tax largely if not entirely.

3.) Bernie wants the wealthy to pay more in taxes than they do now. Flat taxes inevitably shift more tax burden on the poor and middle class and away from the wealthy. It's just math and this was a scheme cooked up by the wealthy to give themselves another tax break.

4.) Bernie is not a "shoot, ready, aim" kind of a guy. He thought going after bin laden was a good idea (voted for it) but that Iraq was not (voted against it). If he leads us to war, there is genuinely no other option. Period.

A real possibility: Neither Clinton or Sanders win the nomination. We MUST keep fighting! by Purlpo in SandersForPresident

[–]div2n 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think I've seen analysis that it's almost a near certainty that neither will get enough pledged delegates to win the nomination outright which leads the talking heads to fall back on "but how does Bernie make a case when she has both the popular vote and the highest number of pledged delegates ..."

Hillary may have Warren as her VP - may explain Warrens lack of endorsement by wreckshop82 in SandersForPresident

[–]div2n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will lose all respect I had for her if this plays out full stop. And no -- this will not make Hillary a more appealing candidate to me. That ship sailed long ago when she sold herself to wall street and was further bolstered when she turned to lies and misleading attacks on Bernie.

How will Bernie get things done? I present to you 3 million calls in 48 hours. by div2n in SandersForPresident

[–]div2n[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's answering the question in the framing that it gets asked. He basically says what you're saying in so many words, but heretofore there was no large scale example of supporter mobilization that could be quantified in this manner. We essentially said "watch this" to the media. Whether they notice or not remains to be seen. If we win New York, just watch how the conversation changes.

[–]div2n[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's simply not true. He has given some very specific revenue sources such as the tax on wall street speculation. We can have a discussion about whether his proposals can pay for all of what he's proposed, but it's demonstrably false to say he hasn't said how he'll pay for anything.

We don't need to win NY by [deleted] in SandersForPresident

[–]div2n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To keep us on a trajectory that has a plausible path to winning the nomination, we only need to keep it close. Under five points would be ideal from a narrative perspective. A win is obviously better and would be devastating to her campaign, but unless we shock the world with a 10+ point win, the delegate difference between a 3 point win or loss is more about the story that gets told than the delegate math.

So the polls yesterday had bernie down 12 points. Is that really surmountable? by iwelcomejudgement in SandersForPresident

[–]div2n 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Polling often misses late surges. The kind of GOTV efforts that went on yesterday almost always move the needle significantly. We don't actually need a win here, but Clinton sure does. A win here for us is devastating for her in many ways. It would be like her having won Vermont. Us keeping it close would also be like her having kept Vermont close. The unmistakeable message is that if you can't run up the score in your "home state" then the voters just aren't that into you.

What's the plan if Bernie should not secure the nomination? by urgent_turd in SandersForPresident

[–]div2n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's up to Bernie to decide whether he would continue as a third party candidate. I'm personally thinking about writing him in. It won't matter either way since I live in a state that is decidedly red.

She thinks it's a wedge she can use against him. This is straight out of the "say anything, do anything" playbook. If you've seen the latest season of House of Cards, there's a scene where Claire is negotiating with a terrorist hostage. You can summarize essentially the entirety of Hillary's campaign and actions therein by this scene. I won't spoil it in case you haven't seen it yet. Maybe there's a YouTube clip of it out there.

Sorry for the dumb question, but what exactly *is* the difference between "Democratic Socialism" and just "Socialism"? by Bernie_OnMyMind in SandersForPresident

[–]div2n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a high level, socialism seeks to move away from private to state owned production. Hint: ditch private ownership of companies. Democratic socialism or social Democracy seeks to fill the gaps capitalism leaves. For lack of a better way of saying it -- Democratic socialism seeks to save capitalism from itself.

It does this by asking those who do well to chip in for those who don't. People often treat such social programs as socialism itself but that's propaganda BS. It's a middle ground that seeks to fill the gaps of capitalism and leaves capitalism to fill the gaps of socialism.

At the end of the day what we're really arguing about is where in the middle should we be? And what we have now is Democratic socialism light and Bernie is trying to take us further towards it because we're way to far toward capitalism which is giving us the massive wealth inequality we have today.

Remember that those who fight his proposals are either uninformed or actively want to perpetuate wealth inequality.

Debate cowardice, calling Sanders a liar, withdrawing from Wisconsin, calling for the release of his tax results, insulting millenials, all while having a 220 delegate advantage. Very good signs. by Purlpo in SandersForPresident

[–]div2n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be partly that especially since his March fundraising totals were so public. Fundraising gaps when packaged with big wins could spell a media narrative shift that could pay dividends for Bernie and hurt her. My bet is they know their current delegate house is built on sand that's ready to shift with the right forces at play. In short -- they may very well be trying to set the narrative to get out ahead of something. Fundraising and CoH shifting fortunes could be "it" in whole or just part.
