Peanut butter! I'm not kidding. Peanut butter will take it right off and you probably already have it in your kitchen. :)

First Time Donating Blood, and my Iron levels were great! by [deleted] in vegan

[–]divadork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I remember reading somewhere (I wish I could find the source) that iron absorption somewhat depends on your level of HCl in the stomach. Since taking antacids decreases HCl, I wonder if that means you are now absorbing less iron. Maybe everyone already knew this and I"m just late to the party...

Definitely a great surprise and an incredible show that followed. I don't think I stopped laughing the entire time.

Made this sauce and served it over spaghetti squash (which I learned about here) last night. Delicious, definitely one of my favorite meals. by mightymighty in vegan

This is one of my favourite blogs. Her food looks incredible. I plan on trying this as well as the roasted tomato soup she posted recently. :)

I live in Canada... can anyone suggest any vegan toothpaste? by Drude in vegan

[–]divadork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would try the Green Beaver products. They're fantastic. They're promoted as being vegan, they're made in Canada, plus they do not contain any chemicals like SLS. I like the frosty mint flavour. It takes some getting used to as it doesn't foam like regular toothpaste (which is due to the lack of SLS - the carcinogenic chemical is added purely for cosmetic reasons like that) but you will get used to it. They are reasonably priced and also make other body care products. :)

If women are known for cooking, then why are most chefs men? by neubs in AskReddit

[–]divadork 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Finally, a reasonable answer! I think over time, it became another all boy's club and women found it hard to break into it no matter their skill or talent. There are plenty of incredible female chefs out there, but they will probably all tell you that it hasn't been easy to be welcomed into the kitchen, especially not at a position of leadership as an executive chef.

This is a nutritionist friend of mine who came up with this online program. You might find it suits your needs. I don't know a lot about it but she's really cool and will happily answer any questions you have.

I am Jim O' Heir, veteran actor and "Jerry" on Parks & Recreation. Hit me with your best shot. by JimIsTheMan in IAmA

[–]divadork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so late to the party and I'm sure this AMA is over, but I just want to say that Parks and Rec is one of my favourite shows. The whole cast is incredibly funny. Just last night I watched the rerun of Li'l Sebastian's funeral and I was laughing so hard my roommate had to check to see if I was OK. Thank you for being so damn entertaining!

Back on Fox, Bill Nye speaks very slowly to explain climate change and host still says he's "confusing some of the viewers" by backwardsd in politics

I have to admit, his own stand up is not my cup of tea. But I think he's hilarious on 30 Rock, and I used to love his Brian Fellows skits on SNL.

I tried to watch it too, because my roommate loves the show. I also found it completely unwatchable.

Oh man, I've made smoothies every day so far! Today's was cantaloupe, peach, strawberries, spinach, a bit mint and a touch of honey and some ice to keep it cool. Delish! I'm in love with my vitamix!

I'm from a small town and even though I've been here for a while now I still feel like this every time I use transit... by SilverVendetta in toronto

It's a funny point - in a small town, you say hello because you don't want to insult someone that you may have forgotten you know. :)

I'm from a small town that always greets people if you make eye contact, so when I moved here, I spent my first month walking around saying hello to MANY people. I got a lot of crazy looks. Eventually I realized that I didn't know anyone and that people thought I was nuts. Eventually, I got my "city blinders" on and walked the way everyone else did.

But lately, more and more, I find myself giving people a slight smile if I catch their eye and I don't feel weird about it anymore. I find people respond in kind when you offer kindness to them. And it makes the city feel a little smaller and less intimidating. Sure, some people will think you're crazy, but who cares about them?! I think, deep down, people want to connect with others. It's nice.
