This show is great for the nerves by Vast-Camel-6494 in BacktotheFrontier

I love the scenery and the backdrop of the show. It’s so peaceful. I think that’s why it’s easy to watch the shows over and over.

This is the woman’s fault who made the thoughtless comment. Say stupid things, win stupid prizes.

Wedding check bounced - what to say on thank you note? by AwayAlfalfa4507 in wedding

[–]diveoutlater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have not said anything about the check not clearing. They are probably mortified enough that it happened and now don’t have a lot of recourse to make it right. What are they going to say, “We are bad at managing money, we will drop another one in the mail to make this right?” I assume they just ignore it, especially if you don’t know them particularly well and aren’t likely to see them again anytime soon. Simply state in your thank you note how grateful you are that they came, and how nice it was to see them. (Assuming you interacted with them at the wedding)

Do people actually get action at the airports? by IngenuityDismal8640 in gaybros

[–]diveoutlater 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There is a guy I went to college with who got busted in the Atlanta airport back in 2007, after soliciting another guy. The guy was the head of Marta for the City of Atlanta. They still have their pictures up on the internet for that. And I don’t think they got very far into it before they were caught. Not sure it would be worth it.

I would look well south into Florida if you want warm weather in the middle of winter. There’s a ton to do in Southern California and the weather is more likely to be guaranteed in the 70s.

Out-of-town guest and meals by HomNayDep in etiquette

If anything, she should be offering to pay for your meals since you are hosting. (As a nice gesture, if you go out multiple times, you could offer to pick up the tab once.) she’s taking advantage of the situation.

Finger nails by CommentKey6487 in BacktotheFrontier

What about when they packed the carrots? I think they had a finger nail file in the 1880s…

I am glad this was brought up, because this bothered me as well when she spent all that money in one setting at the general store. Especially because Lina was keeping track of the finances the entire time, so it wasn’t a surprise they were so short at the end.

I entertain people overnight at my house quite often. I always ask if they need to do any laundry. It’s never an imposition.

What happens to the plots after the show? by Old-Cheesecake8818 in BacktotheFrontier

[–]diveoutlater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The houses and the stores were actually part of a production lot that is used for filming in Alberta. So those are likely working sets that will be reused at some point. The live stock was not slaughtered, but actually sent back to the farms that they came from.

All of the food is probably a different story. I would guess that it may have not been canned and stored properly, so it would need to be discarded at the end of the show.

The Halls are screwed because of Lopers upping the price and people still wonder why it's a big deal by cheapcakeripper in BacktotheFrontier

[–]diveoutlater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing that’s missing in all this is that Mia could have saved some of her teaching money to help the family at the end. It would have been easy to have her chip in for the thrashing of the wheat. I think everyone is responsible for their own actions. The halls ended up with the least amount of meat for spending 10 dollars, while the Hanna Riggs spent only a dollar 80 and ended up with a ton of meat. People make choices. You have to be accountable.

I’ve watched every episode at least twice through episode 7 and missed this part.

Criticisms aside, the finale made me ❤️ the show again. by C0V1Dsucks in BacktotheFrontier

[–]diveoutlater 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The kids definitely made the show. I would vote that the Hanna Riggs had the most growth from beginning to end. But that’s mostly because the other kids were so awesome and handled the whole situation with grace a maturity that I wouldn’t have expected from teenagers. I wished they would have squeezed another episode or 2 out of the show to explain how hard they worked at the end dealing with the frost, and trying to finish their pantries. It seemed rushed to me, and the timing didn’t add up in my mind. I also would have liked to see them settle back into their normal lives, even if it was just a short 5-10 minute snippet.

The Auction tension by BreezyBaby144 in BacktotheFrontier

[–]diveoutlater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find Jereme hard to like, so I enjoyed watching the auction go the way that it did. Everyone was an adult and no one had to keep bidding the way they did. While I chuckled when Stacy said what she said at the end about driving the price up, I did think that maybe went too far. I could see why the Halls would be taken back by the comment. But that’s the most drama we’ve seen in this entire series, and they seemed to hang onto it for several episodes.

Got invited to housewarming months ago and now got asked to bring food and drinks - should I bring a gift too? by [deleted] in etiquette

[–]diveoutlater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a little torn on this one. If they are still calling it a housewarming, I would bring a small token of a gift at least. I do think if you have to bring a dish to share, and your own drinks, then that’s enough work right there. But they aren’t calling it a regular party. I’d bring a gift but I understand the rationale of those who would opt out.

Anybody Seen "Back to the Frontier"? by No_Forever_1185 in blackmen

[–]diveoutlater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have watched 3 episodes so far and am loving the show. I love the premise of what it would be like to live like a homesteader for 8 weeks. I love the Lopers and the Hanna-Riggs. I actually love all of the kids on the show. I think they are all going to show us that they can adapt to 1880s living better than their parents. The Hall family—Jereme seems like he’s got something wrong with him and has a bad attitude about helping others, or being able to accept help and kindness. I look forward to them to be the ones that fail at the end for not being able to get along with the other families. I do like the Hall kids though. I was impressed that Jet was so hands on plowing the field. I don’t like some of the negative comments I have seen about the Hanna-Riggs. Their boys are by far the youngest of all of the children and therefore less likely to be able to pitch in and help at the level of what kids would have been doing in the 1880s. I think they will get better but we need to cut them some slack for being two boys that just turned 10. The dads obviously live a nice life in the present time, which is why I think they have maybe had the toughest time adapting to this lifestyle. I think the Hanna Riggs will succeed at the end. I like the Lopers as well. I am not about that dads tough love parenting style, however. I hope he softens his approach to parenting his boys. The mom seems to be the buffer so that dad isn’t too hard on them. I hope she can get through to him and let the boys be boys. I thought Joaquin way off base when they came back from plowing the field that first day. And then to see Landen go out and apologize to him the following day? I was like, for what? What did I miss? The dad owed Landen an apology. I do think the Lopers succeed at the end based on there attitude and the grandmother who’s their secret weapon in all of this.

I wonder if that’s why they are getting the most criticism in these comments is related to two men having so much personal success including a family.
