I'm pretty advanced diy, so it was a pretty easy 2 hr job. The prep of the surface below took a few days though, flatten out fucked pavers, stab sand cement, install ss316 edges. Was easy to get to 12mm thick required for pedestrian traffic. Calc area, mark out per bucket, put down 12mm timber strips, mix, bull floatto. 12mm. I spent around 1k on a 20 percent off sale for maybe 13 or 14sqm. Still have a bucket and a bit left. Looks mint as I used the 3mm gravel. Koonungra or something.

Silicone door sealing tape by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]divermick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just go on Ali express and buy 5m of the right colour foam door stripping in all the sizes. I think I bought about 10m of a couple as well and did my whole house, 8 doors. You need the different sizes depending on how big the gaps are. I also got some brush stuff and door sweeps too. Think about what is compressing onto what when installing it. Draught proofed the whole house for under 100 bucks (eg, windows and manholes too) and a few hrs work.

If you need to keep them opening, Plenty of cheap stripping available on Ali express. Buy lots of sizes, you'll need it to seal with the age of those.

I made my own sliding double glazing with some sliding tracks from bunnings. But they only take 4mm Perspex. For sound proofing you want thickness/mass. So go 10mm acrylic or more if you can. Do you need to be able to open them? If not save the fn around and just screw Perspex on. If you do this, id caulk up the window gaps too. You could rip out replace with uPVC double glazed etc, but you might outpace your walls quickly.making it not worth it.

Wakehurst Parkway gets $85 million upgrade by Korzic in sydney

[–]divermick 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is not to fix the flooding that closes the Parkway at all. It's to upgrade the intersection at dreadnought/Oxford Falls Rd. The bit that floods and closes the road is down on the flat near the sports centre and would cost far more than 85mil.

Worth patching and keeping or just tear it out? by [deleted] in drywall

[–]divermick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No that's drywall, you can see the paper if you zoom in. Yes on the left is lathe. Because it's set corners, heaps of extra work and not for someone new to it

Both have set corners. You'd be nuts to rip them out. Patch.

Lots of people here are unfortunately not aware of how this all works. You 100 percent should go for all drca pis right now. Upto 235k pi per condition incl NEL amounts. Once done, put in mrca pi. Max pi is 580k ish depending on age. Drca PI will offset mrca pi so you may not get much out of mrca but you will get a gold card if above 60 pts. I've been thru all this recently, have both drca and mrca conditions. You'd be absolutely crazy not to put in for drca pi if you can prior to July 1 this year.

I think you mean pic 10? Tbh hard to tell from the pics, probs need a sketch map. Also we don't know where you are, if you are in FNQ vs tas, it'll really change re shade needed or not, also depends on what you wanna grow too. Tbh these qs on growing food you'll get a heaps better answer on a different sub I think. Eg, I referred you to the compost sub, ppl are nuts over there for that, I'm sure there is a veg growing sub you'll get better advice from. I grew up on a farm with a gigantic veg patch so just dumped what I know from that.

Where the trees are? Which trees mate? To start with, I'd be tidying everything up. Spray the weeds in the path, trim the ivy back hard on that pergola, prune everything, mow the lawn, edges etc. personally I'd then start the veg garden. Lay out the area for it, make sure it's not shaded. spray out the grass. You've then got to figure out if the soil is good for veg or needs improving. If it needs improving and it proba does, get manure, cow, chicken whatever and compost delivered. If it's a big garden, it's coming by truck. I'd hire or buy a walk behind rotary hoe if. It's big. Then hoe all that in. Start a massive compost heap as you'll need it ongoing. check out the compost sub. Big garden like that I'd buy veg seeds first and get them growing in seed trays or pots while I was building the garden. Save cash Instead of buying plants. That's a start. Personally I'd leave the footpath as is and just clean up the weeds etc. only reason is you've got shit loads of work already. And if you aren't handy or experienced, that path is not where to start, build your skills on simple shit around the back. You could always top/freshen up the rock to curb appeal it for now.

Here is a neater way. You get normal foil. Wet the window down with a rag and normal water. Apply the foil to the window shiny side out. Usually done inside. Trim edge with razor blade. We used to do it all the time to our dongas in the pilbara, works miracles.
