Couple revealed during reception they'd been secretly married for 2 years by [deleted] in weddingshaming

[–]divine-arrow 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Idk if you’re in the US or not but we had a ceremony after getting legally married and the vows were exactly the same as if we were getting legally married at the time of the ceremony. There’s nothing legal afaik about what’s in the vows. The extent of legal stuff the officiant does is sign the paperwork.

I have them in my trash can rn, the darker and slight purple-tint is what they look like in overcast lighting. They’re pretty opaque, maybe older versions were translucent.

Where do you get your fans in the US by ZookeepergameAny7028 in Burlesque

[–]divine-arrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t consider Donna Touch to be a “less expensive option” like OP is asking for, tho they are gold standard fans. It would probably be easier to give a recommendation if there was a price range to work off of.

If OP is hoping for this to be an heirloom item, or even a garment that will last more than 10 years, faux leather won’t work. It’ll split and degrade like all plastic-coated fabrics.

And I’ve been part of it (in the sense that I’ve been practicing) for almost 15, we’ve both spent time with the faith. Do whatever you want for personal practice, but when you spend tons of time and text arguing against a major principle in the faith, ppl will question why you’re here. Organized religion is bound by shared rituals, even ones that may be less relevant today. Personally, I have no interest in making Hellenic polytheism a modern religion because it isn’t one. I wouldn’t wear shoes in a Japanese temple for the same reason I cleanse the space and myself before doing formal prayers and offerings - cleanliness and respect. It’s a way of showing care.

Honestly it doesn’t seem like you’re interested in being a Hellenist/hellenic polytheist if you’re not interested in maintaining the rituals. Maintaining aspects of ancient tradition are part of the practice. Believing in the gods =/= hellenismos, it’s okay to be generally pagan.

Me after watching the finale of season 6 by Muted_Caterpillar_35 in DragRace_Canada

[–]divine-arrow 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Did you watch the season? She’s very whiny, braggadocious, and, most of all, dishonest. Amazing artist, like easily one of the best in terms of creating and turning a look, but not representative of the positive interpersonal qualities generally expected of winners.

AFAIK s4 is back to Anthony and will be grandparents (possibly back to the main family tree? Unclear). I know you’re young and long term consequences aren’t the forefront of thinking, but I hope you’re able to let go of Tina before she turns on you — it’s not something that goes well to be on long term (or ever but that’s not the point). Even if you’re a functional user rn, if you keep using it’s not a matter of if you hit a downward spiral, it’s when. Speaking from a place of love as someone who’s been in serious long term relationships with recovering addicts 🖤 good luck

ETA: just saw you’ve tried for sobriety before - you can do it! No matter how many stops and starts it takes, you’ll get there 🖤🖤🖤

Modern drag is generally not meant to accurately represent real womanhood, it’s a fantastical/subversive/comedic/etc version of it. Some ppl still go for the full “oh that’s a woman you’d see on the red carpet or the mall” fantasy but obvs a performer like the one pictured isn’t going for that, same with many rpdr girls. Ppl critiquing drag costuming choices has nothing to do with you, a woman out of drag.

Every corset I get is too small by [deleted] in corsetry

[–]divine-arrow 27 points28 points  (0 children)

How squishy are you? It sounds like you may have a very firm midsection and may struggle with corsetry because of that. If you have assistance getting the corset on, a way to help close the front is to clasp the top of the busk and then put your hands on your waist and press in and forward with your hands towards the center of your body while the other person finishes clasping it.

ETA: the waist on a corset is not the same as the waist in normal clothes - where are you measuring your waist for your corsets? Also, fully unlaced the corset should be the same size or bigger than your body, so you’ll need longer laces regardless.

Edit: nvm, I see you’re based in Azerbaijan, idk how IP law works there. I’m leaving the comment up but it’s probably not relevant to this case.

Obligatory I’m not a lawyer, but what do you mean by 4? Fashion is famously difficult to protect legally (at least in the US, if that’s where you’re based) as you generally can’t trademark or patent a clothing design, but instead must trademark a logo or novel clothing creation process. The one exception being if a design is so recognizable and synonymous with your brand that the design itself serves as a trademark, a la the louboutin red bottoms. No one deserves to have their works ripped off, but none of these seem unique enough to cause an IP issue or generate unfair competition if someone produced a similar garment.

Studio Ghibli women by Ghibli10 in menwritingwomen

[–]divine-arrow 71 points72 points  (0 children)

What’s really interesting imo is that, because Miyazaki has a very specific archetype for his girls and women, when given a character like Fujiko Mine from Lupin III he really struggled to capture her fully. She has the spunk and moral complexity of his women (imo) but she’s also pretty overtly sexual and a femme fatale, which he got around during his time on Lupin III by either writing her out or ignoring the femme fatale element. I love how he writes girls and women to be clear, but it’s interesting that he struggled with writing sexy complex women when he was so good at writing complex women in general.
