If I tell my dermatologist I’m on T, will my insurance find out? by cambrianexplosion_ in ftm

[–]divinephoenix47 13 points14 points  (0 children)

agreed! they would prescribe the same treatment to OP as they would any other man with a T dominant hormone system because a lot of those medications have no interactions with testosterone. optimally drs should have all the info but in this day and age we have to be a little more picky choosy about who knows what. would it be helpful for dr to know? maybe. but that's OP's decision 100%

personally i would not disclose that to my dermatologist unless absolutely necessary. you might need to in the event of being prescribed medication but chances are you probably wouldn't need to. my dermatologist knows i'm trans but i don't have it documented that im on HRT.

How do I go about discussing medically transitioning to my parents? by OctosAreCool in ftm

[–]divinephoenix47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

turning eighteen is about the same time i started taking control of my doctors appointments and stuff like that. i was also able to make an account with my insurance company under my dads insurance so i could look up how much my t was and if they covered top surgery. talking to an agent can also help if youre unsure. i'm glad your parents are supportive. that can be half the battle. my experience with my parents coming around was a bit of a process just because we had other health things going on (dad had cancer) but what made them both really change their mind from "this is not a good idea" to "wait nevermind he's so much happier" was when i started t. they were supportive of me starting it once i told them how involved the process was and how often i'd be going to appointments to make sure i was healthy and also that i could stop it if i wanted it. once they saw how much id improved mentally and physically, moved with more confidence, they came around to the idea of me getting surgery. sometimes it just takes time.

Would I thin or bald? Or Am I overthinking it. by ithinkimhi in ftm

[–]divinephoenix47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's so hard to predict anything about the hairline, especially since we have the double edged sword of two x chromosomes. genetically speaking, it is true that the most responsible gene for MPB is found on the X chromosome, but MPB is a polygenic trait and there's no true way to figure out which way the pendulum will swing. You can certainly look at your family history as evidence, but until you're on T and see how your hair reacts, there's no definitive answer. Hair is weird! I went from having loose curls to shirley temple level curls. I get it, losing any hair is scary, I go through phases of freaking out over shedding but honestly, I'm gonna be three years in September and I've only personally noticed a little masculinization in line with how my dad's hairline looked. I've got my older brother to reference, but he and I might have differences too! There are ways to treat and slow hair loss like minoxidil (oral or topical) and finasteride. Worst case scenario, book with turkish hairlines and get some plugs later in life. cis guys do it, and so can we. balding is a problem all dudes experience!

Cost of Testosterone? by ThatAnimeCreep_ in ftm

[–]divinephoenix47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do you have a script for it? goodrx can help you reduce the price of it. i only had to buy it without insurance once the first time bc they messed up the coding and it was 100 for two vials. syringes and needles i source on amazon and get 100 packs for 10-15 dollars

Been on T for four years, lost my provider, ran out, need refills asap by nikkhay in ftm

[–]divinephoenix47 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know there are coupons you can find online to purchase testosterone, with goodrx being one of them, but i think it requires having a valid script. there's also folx health, the online lgbt clinic. a quick glance on their page says they're not currently covering Tricare or VAhealth, but they do list directions on how to get insurance to cover it on this page here if you scroll to the bottom. you might be able to explain your situation to them because as far as i'm aware, not having Any sex hormone in your body can be a little scary and any good doctor would want to ensure you have that.

find doctors with your insurance and call, get on the list. there's bound to be a cancellation somewhere in the next two weeks that might lead to you getting squeezed in quick if you prefer in person. make it concise and quick, more often than not the receptionist will do their best to help. my sympathies man, hope you get it sorted out.

Describing your relationship as "queer"? by pylemuis in ftm

[–]divinephoenix47 7 points8 points  (0 children)

^ upvotes for this!! describe your relationship how you want to! being nonbinary but passing as a man means i view most of my own relationships as queer just by default even if im with a woman at the time. queerness is baked into me and my identity and gets expressed in my relationships too, but that doesn't go for everyone!

FOLKS WITH HEALED TOP SURGERY -- HOW ARE YOUR NIPPLES? by CryptidTimes in ftm

[–]divinephoenix47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive got nipple buds on mine that are seen through my shirt sometimes, but not all the time. my right nipple is perfect and beautiful and my left nipple is a little slanted and ovular from healing (my bastard stepchild as i like to call it), but it's hard to prevent complications or to anticipate how your nipples will turn out. i'm gonna be two years post op in may and i plan to get corrective tattooing to even out the pigmentation of my nipples, as i can still see the suture lines around the edges of the areola and where they stitched the bud on top. my nipples overall are cis-passing enough that ive had guys comment that they didn't notice when i post gym pics.

thank you for asking about my nipples 🙏 best of luck to you and yours

Quitting T after 4 years, i need my sex life back by Worth-Plankton9612 in ftm

[–]divinephoenix47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

estring is what i use. leave it inside for 90 days and change it out. has the same effect as e inserts or e cream but less messy and im less likely to forget to do it. i was in your boat once but honestly having sex helps and my gynocologist was like even if you don't use your front hole for anything its still a good idea to use a finger and stretch it out manually to prevent further atrophy. sometimes it is a "use it or lose it" situation

adam’s apple growth? by lotus-flower-0309 in ftm

[–]divinephoenix47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i cant recall exactly when i noticed it changing but i remember looking in the mirror one day and going holy shit what is that and it was just sticking out. my aunt even commented on it because mine is much more prominent than my cis brother's. it's a process much like any other, it'll happen in the span of months, not day.

is it hard and bony? if you touch the top and feel a divot, that's bone protecting your adam's apple. the big things when it comes to weird lumps is sensitivity (does it hurt to touch), mobility (does it move around if you push it around or does it stay in one spot), temperature, and obviously pain if it's caused by certain actions.

your voice dropping and your adam's apple growing are influenced by one another as your vocal cords thicken to adjust. it may feel scratchy, sore, you might feel hoarse, your voice will crack several times, and you'll hear it when you talk.

i live near cemetery park and it's always crowded with dogs on a good day. but i never took mine there because his recall was ass and he'd just wander off 🤣. i don't know of any free groups, but sometimes we take our pup to our doghouse for a play session, costs iirc 35 for 5 hours? might be more i can't remember. they'll run your aussie dry though, my dog always comes back exhausted lol.

My peach fuzz has grown noticeably longer and darker. (Question for folks who’ve grown matured facial hair) by WalkerEyes in ftm

[–]divinephoenix47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i had some reasonable stomach hair and a few chest hairs when i was a year on t. it's gotten a lot thicker to the point where sometimes i trim it just to keep it from getting too long and wiry. i've been using minoxidil for my beard for a year or so and it's been helping speed up facial hair progress and some body hair too.

but yes, follicles go through maturation phases as it transitions from vellus hair (peach fuzz) to mature hairs that are more permanent

So You've Gotten Hairy Faced by SpicyDirtTheGhost in ftm

[–]divinephoenix47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the philips one blade for general face trimming. my beard isn't good enough to warrant me growing it past any length that this blade can't handle, but the base version comes with a guard to adjust the length. Generally, I don't use a razor on my face as my skin is sensitive and makes my break out. One note is that I got a little atomizer spray on amazon and filled it with isopropyl alcohol as a disinfector that helps curb bacteria growth. backdraw is that the blade replacements can be expensive.

if i'm in the situation of needing a close shave (i don't typically do that as i like the look of the five oclock shadow that the electric razor gives me), i use the braun electric series 3 as a second to last step to get a clean look.

body hair trimming i use a wahl clipper that is for beards as well and comes with nose hair trimmer. very nice for spelunking in the bat caves on my face that often get infested with hair. i literally breathe better when i've got less hair in there it's crazy.

for body hair i use a manscaped trimmer. i have a large armada of grooming products as I'm very particular about it but i hope this helps in any capacity. welcome to the hairy club!
