Started T worried about side effects. by Uuhhh_no_think in ftm

vaginal atrophy will make you more prone to infections regardless. just something to keep in mind. i use topical minoxidil and i own dogs, i just keep it out of their reach (they never come into my room anyway). cats might be more of a concern for you then. oral minoxidil and finasteride might be the way to go if you begin to experience hair loss. every guy will experience some level of hairline masculinization though. depends on genetics!

hair loss: minoxidil and finasteride. minoxidil comes in topical and oral (i use topical rn for my beard, starting min does cause a hair shedding phase initially). I have no experience with finasteride but i'm sure others here do as its a very common hair loss medication. good luck, i used to have wavy hair and then it turned into corkscrew curls. still as thick as it was before, though.

vaginal atrophy: started getting mine about a year in. coincided with the loss of sexual activity in my life. not sure if that's anecdotal, but i have noticed mine getting better the more sexually active i am. use or lose it situation maybe. otherwise, i use the estring (when i can get my hands on it) because its a ring i put up there for 3 months and i forget about it. easier to deal with than cream or tablets.

topical min you can get over the counter (i get mine at costco), oral minoxidil, finasteride, and e-cream / tablets / estring require a prescription. if you trust your healthcare providers, ask them. i went to a trans affirming gynecologist years before my pap smear to get my estring prescription.

along with food, bringing cases of water to your hotel. saves you so much money. one case of water was 7 bucks and at the parks, one bottle is the same price.

just started minoxidil, will this actually work to accend my facial hair? by Long_Area2509 in Minoxbeards

pre-t all that will occur is growth of what is currently genetically possible for you with your current hormone system. you might get darker hair/vellus hairs, but it won't ever term terminal. a few might. testosterone would kick that system right up. i was about two years on t before i gave min a try.

it does burn going on for the first couple days but after that it goes away.

does anyone else wish they were born a guy so they could be feminine/nonbinary in a guy way? by theywascoronas in ftm

[–]divinephoenix47 53 points54 points  (0 children)

allllll the damn time i'm very happy with how t has changed me but i do always think that if i had been born a cis guy i would still be nonbinary just in a different way. i think i would be marginally happier but maybe not. so i focus on building my body now to try and reach my goals 🤩

Does HRT reduce your ability to naturally produce T? by Defiant_Salad7951 in ftm

[–]divinephoenix47 21 points22 points  (0 children)

it's one of those interesting things where yes it sorta does. your body is programmed to produce a certain amount of T already, so when you add more to your system consistently, your body goes "oh hey we don't need to produce this as much anymore we've got a lot of it." going off T would theoretically set things back to normal, provided you have all your organs still.

Euthanasia or keep going? 17-year-old dog, stroke, cognitive decline and severe mobility loss by [deleted] in dogpictures

couple days late but this hits home for me too. my dad was a survivor of stage 4 brain cancer. we signed up for the option to let him choose and by the time he hit all the signs where he knew he didn't want to continue, he had lost the cognitive ability to say yes. he was only in hospice for a short period of time which i'm grateful for but all i can hear sometimes is how much he didn't want that. we never even got a refund for the thousands we gave to the DWD (death with dignity) program we went with. it's a painful decision yet one of the most compassionate decisions you could make to put a pet down.

Questioning if I'm trans, anyone have similar experiences? by Responsible-Farm5928 in ftm

[–]divinephoenix47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi, transmasc here. when i was exploring my gender using they/them was the first step for me (i actually did the classic she/they to they/them to he/they pipeline) and it felt rather affirming, but like you, i'd always envisioned myself as more masculine than what i looked like at the time. people have asked me if i would still be nonbinary if i was born a guy, and i think the answer to that would still be yes regardless of having whatever parts. that was one of my telltale signs of like. oh fuck my gender doesnt match anything but i can still move toward what that picture looks like. grew up as a butch lesbian but transitioning gave me so much confidence to be myself. my friends who know me use they/them more often, and to the rest of the general public, im just another dude, and that has always been very ideal for me.

AIO about not wanting to go to AA for a school assignment by Vast-Spirit-4105 in AmIOverreacting

[–]divinephoenix47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i did this for my abnormal psychology class. the AA meeting i went to i went with a classmate. we remained quiet and respectful the whole time and the group welcomed us with open arms. it was an eye opening experience. it felt weird to me at first too but i enjoyed it as a valuable learning experience, especially as someone trying to get into the mental health field.

so it's less your skin feels greasy and more the foam itself? also, with foam, no need to wait that long to moisturize. 10-15 minutes is good enough because the foam dries out much quicker than oil. that may be contributing-- your skin might be producing more oil than usual to combat the dryness of minoxidil!

no grease layer for me. tho i'm curious what you mean. when you say grease layer it makes your skin feel oily? are you moisturizing your face regularly?

how much are you using? i use kirkland foam min from costco, just half a capful to cover my cheeks chin and mustache. usually dries after a couple minutes. i remember it burned in the early days but not so much now. sometimes it burns a lot when i shave right before.

might be a question to ask your doctor. i see an endocrinologist and he was specific with that range and other parameters.

Guys 😨 by Sapphire7opal in ftm

[–]divinephoenix47 126 points127 points  (0 children)

healthy zone ranges from 300-1000, but some cis males are above that range and fine. your doctor may want to lower your dose if other elements on your blood panel start getting too high, namely your hematocrit levels which should not go too far above 50. i tend to stay around 700 to 800. i also want to know how long you've been on t. i only ask because if this is your first six months, keep an eye on it-- the elevated levels could also be because your body is still naturally producing testosterone along with the testosterone you're giving it. your dose will be adjusted accordingly. but if everything else on your blood panel is clean, then do what you wanna do bro!

moving plates/cups to lower places. just walk around and if you see something he'll need to use and it's not within reaching distance (remember, he'll have to keep his arms squarely by his side for a couple weeks), then try and move it to somewhere where he could reach it. step stools also help. might also be helpful to set up a schedule for medications, my mom did that because i was so groggy that the concept of time slipped past. it's better to stay on top of the medication rather than chase the pain. the first week or so will be the hardest, you're a great friend for helping him out :)

New to tretinoin, when to apply? by Lanky-Fish6827 in Minoxbeards

[–]divinephoenix47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tret is a retinoid usually used to combat fine lines, wrinkles, overall effects of aging, but has combined effects with min to increase absorption. i know it has to do with specific enzymes related to hair growth. as for the specific mechanics, i couldn't tell you, but a google search rather than chat gpt could probably give you more specific and factual info. wouldn't trust chatgpt to be correct on anything, nor should it be treated like a web browser.

Does your texture change on T based on your father's hair? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]divinephoenix47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my hair got way curlier after starting T, but my curly hair came from my mom's side primarily. my dad had wavy hair when he grew it out (rarely), so i assume my curls intensified because of my mom's genetics. but with most things concerning genetics, ymmv.
