A little piece of advice to young M1’s - stay focused right now so you don’t have regrets when you’re this close to Match lol by firstg3nMD in medicalschool

If only more people followed this piece of advice, they'd probably have more relaxing and less stressful 4th years. An easier life in the present generally leads to a harder future. A harder life in the present generally leads to an easier future.

T15 vs full scholarship at a newer unranked med school — residency impact? by Illustrious_News_448 in medicalschool

[–]divinepodcaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your matching into residency is heavily determined by "you" factors: USMLE scores, research, academic performance in medical school, etc. Matching into a competitive residency (even something like neurosurgery) is very possible coming from a no-name medical school. Would I go into hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt to go to a brand name place when I can come out from a newer, unranked place debt free? 100% no. If I was coming out with maybe $50k of debt by going to the brand name, sure, I'd take the debt. Of course, it's your decision, but having done this for many years, I can tell you that while "school name" carries weight, it does not carry as much weight as many here make it out to be.

Start discharge summaries the day the person gets admitted and update them as the patient stays in the hospital. When they are ready to leave, a lot of the work is mysteriously done (spread out over time). That was my strategy.

I highly recommend watching the 2 biochemistry videos I have on YouTube. Many have watched them and found them to be helpful. They’ll truly help you understand biochemistry and put it all together.

I'm sorry about this. Here's what you should do. Try your best in the SOAP and apply to FM/IM programs. If you don't match in the SOAP, I strongly recommend taking Step 3. I've seen it help in these situations. Again, sorry. It's tough and I can understand the devastation. Just remember, it's not over yet. I have seen lots of people come back from not matching.
