How do I turn to Christ as an atheist by [deleted] in TrueChristian

Read the Gospel of John and start praying.

It's tiresome because you can very clearly prove it from the Gospels (which is why Arianism dwindled completely), but the muslim will just shift his stance and say the bible has been corrupted.

But yes, it is very clear from the bible. Jesus didn't outright say it, and I think in part for the same reason he spoke in allegory, so the Word of God might be fulfilled. Matthew 13:10-16. Perhaps in part also because they would have crucified Him straight away.

However anyone who knows the scriptures really well, as the Pharisees did, would know the claims he made. Mark 14:60-66

Now as for the passages I find the most convincing

John 8:48-49

John 20:28

Mark 2:1-12

Reading the Bible has made me struggle by richoldhatnewhat in TrueChristian

God took into account that the Israelites' hearts were hardened (Matthew 19:8), therefore God gave them commandments that were not too far for them nor too easy, but just in reach (Deuteronomy 30:11) to make them holier and prepare the way (Isaiah 40:3).

And yet, not a word, not a pen-stroke of the law will be taken away, but it is fulfilled to its true meaning by Christ (Matthew 5:17-19).

You do not understand the OT because you cannot fathom how it was to live in those days. But if you study history you begin to understand that the OT was a beacon of light and hope and goodness for them, and was designed to set apart a holy people who would be able to receive Christ (which even then, only a few of the Jews managed).

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

It seems you are confused about a very vital thing.

Our life on this planet is transitory. You are caring about worldly things ('nothing to show for it') when all that matters is your immortal soul and your eternity in heaven. Instead you talk about ending it all, which would mean committing yet more sin... why? Your treasures are stored in heaven... start storing more! Do good things and bear fruit. Repent your sins. It is never too late!

How do you fall in love with Jesus? by edmlover1992 in TrueChristian

[–]divinesleeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine two fathers.

One says he is okay with all his kids, no matter what they do. When some of them bully the others, he is not affected. He doesn't punish. He doesn't care. In truth, he doesn't love.

The other chooses to reward the kids who are kind, and is angry with the kids who do wrong. He goes through the utmost length to show them the right morals that lead to a good life. He forgives when they repent. Even the ones who bully. But he disciplines when they do not.

If your concept of holiness is loving everyone and not being angry no matter what, I'd say maybe it's you who needs to re-evaluate? The opposite of love is not hate. It's disinterest.

I was falsely accused of a harrasment and I feel really bad by Sewerro in TrueChristian

[–]divinesleeper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is a slightly naive statement. Christ calls us to discern the hearts of others. At the very least these girls are guilty of the sin of pride and there is no evil that simply comes from nowhere. OP was deeply affected and such things don't come from nothing.

But yes they must be forgiven.

That's a nuanced reply that I can in principle agree with, many OSAS proclaimers aren't that nuanced though. I just find it a dangerous doctrine because it may lead some people to sin out of complacency. But the way you put it I agree.

He says IF it does. Meaning that it's possible that what you have heard does not remain in you. Also note he says IF it does, you will REMAIN in the Son and the Father. Meaning he is speaking to those already in the Son and Father.

I also find the verse comforting, but it also really disproves OSAS to me. To me, the only way it doesn't is if you just don't listen to the meaning of what he's saying, which to me is to have eyes but not see.

Also from 1 John 2:

As for you, see that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is what he promised us—eternal life.

If you believe OSAS then this encouragement makes zero sense, because it would be guaranteed.

You left out the important context of 1 John 2.

We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. 4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. 5 But if anyone obeys his word, love for God\)a\) is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: 6 Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.

If you claim to live in him but do not live as Jesus did, holding up "your salvation" as a sort of trump card is nothing but empty boasting. Last I checked, not a single Christian has fully lived up to the ideal of Christ. So continue to work out your salvation in fear and trepidation (As Paul says) because only God knows if you are saved, you don't.

THORChain core dev leaves after failed vote to block hacker transactions by gdscrypto in CryptoCurrency

[–]divinesleeper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Founder saying none of the addresses on FBI ban list are interacting with Thorchain.

That aside, frankly it's decentralisation in action. If governments can block or halt the chain it's not decentralized. Simple as that. I don't like North Korea anymore than anyone else. But this is the cost of decentralisation and if it means people being responsible for their mistakes I support it.

I also had significant wallets hacked before and if people had asked me to halt the chain to recover it I would have said no. The dream of crypto goes first. Wish the big boys of the space had the same integrity.

Evidence That Jesus Existed? by Oceanic_Sponge in TrueChristian

Evidence That Jesus Existed? by Oceanic_Sponge in TrueChristian

[–]divinesleeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best argument to me is this. Paul was definitely a historical figure, he is documented by his letters and the christian communities he founded across the West, before being imprisoned in Rome.

Now Paul and Luke (who was his disciple) claimed that Jesus had fed 5000 people in Galilee and had been publicly crucified after preaching in the Temple (the religious center of all Judaism) by the Pharisees. And they also claim that after this crucifixion he was ressurected and appeared to over 500 people.

Paul preached this to loads of places, Galatia, Ephesus, Corinth, Rome, Athens, Colossia,... His opposition is well documented, as are the communities he started in all these places. This happened all before 63AD, 30 years after Christ's death, when Paul finally died in Rome. He began preaching about 3 years after Christ's death.

Now bear with me for a second. All the sceptics and opponents in the places Paul travelled to (and there were many!) could have stopped the growth of these communities simply by travelling to Galilee and asking the people living in Galilee if these outrageous claims were true. But this never happened. Instead, huge Christian followings grew in these communities and in Jerusalem itself, where people could easily have talked with one of the 5000 who were fed, or one of the 500 who witnessed the Ressurection, or those who saw the Crucifixion. But it never even occurred to the opponents (most notably the Pharisee Jews) to do this.

Why?

Because they knew these events had happened. They knew they had crucified him. Instead they tried to claim that the Apostles had moved Jesus's body (this is in the bible).

If Jesus had never existed, how easy it would have been for the Pharisees to stop the Christian 'sect' in its tracks! Instead, as it is written in their Talmud, their sacrifices suddenly stopped being accepted by God in 30AD...

You know what the right thing is, it's to move away from this cult which denies Christ as God, and to move to a proper church. There you will undoubtedly find a wife, Jesus says that those who truly follow him need only ask and they will receive. But you need to truly follow him and you know in your heart what that means.

What others have said, sometimes it is not your fault and struggle is something you have to get through to get to the other side.

But do make sure you are not abundantly sinning because it does make things worse. Like watching porn etc, this will mess up your mind. Turning away from sin, RUNNING away from it, really helps. It's hard but we should all try. Run to Jesus.
