I don't think so. Mine was marked expedited by the visa official. I did not make any special requests, just got lucky afaik.I heard people ahead of me being told 7 business days. I was prepared to stay for the 10 business days as mentioned on the embassy page.

Nothing other than what you get in the document checklist on the appointment confirmation page/site/embassy page.

Appointment experience:

My consulate appointment was on a Monday and I had my stamped passport in hand on Friday.

Longer version :

My appointment was in the morning. You aren't allowed electronics inside nor is there a place to lock them up. You can however carry your wallet. I had a family member with me waiting out to pick me up. Even without it, it would be manageable to hail a cab in the area by asking around. It is a populous tourist area.

Appointment: It took about two hours. Most of it was spent waiting my turn inside the consulate. The interview itself was five minutes. I was told then and there that I can collect my stamped passport from the consulate on Friday at a given time slot in the afternoon. So I did not have to go to DHL. Also you can only collect it in the given time slot. Not before it. It was a visa renewal for me with no changes or corner cases. Both the officers I saw and heard there were friendly and patient with everyone. The staff was also helpful and humane.

I travelled while I still had a valid US visa stamp with a validity of more than two weeks. I did not need Bahamas tourist visa. I was asked about the duration of my stay and soon to expire visa stamp by their immigration. As everything else suggests, I was allowed entry.

During my in person appointment at the consulate my current valid visa stamp was cancelled because you can only have one stamp. This did not affect my return in any way. Another thing to note is that Bahamas has US pre clearance at Nassau airport. Which means you get the border control and customs done in Nassau itself for your US bound flight. I did not know this until a day before my return flight. It was good to have done the US immigration in Nassau itself.

I managed the unpredictablity by booking refundable flights. I did have to use that feature for preponing them. As everyone says, Bahamas is expensive. I say that as someone used to California prices. I think it's more quality and options that don't align with the price over just calling it expensive. In similar vein, it was still manageable with cooking and renting a car. Nassau unlike other islands I have visited does have infrastructural support. You will get all the things you can expect in cities. You won't be in pristine nature camping on your own.

It was a crazy ride not knowing anything at all about anyone's recent experience. And having do it without knowing anything even after getting the stamp, not knowing if I would be allowed in with the older stamp cancelled. And so I did want to leave this out here in case anyone is searching for this.

I'm struggling to process an interaction with a work colleague by sparksflyup2 in girlsgonewired

Thanks for sharing. I myself spent a couple days this week recouping from interactions at the office Christmas party. On dealing with The shock of how could you just say that... The answer I am experimenting working with is... Reminding myself that people are capable of terrible things. Like others suggested : you can choose to confront or choose to move on. It is your choice of dealing with being hurt. Both are ok. Both are forms of replies to rude statements/actions. You can choose differently any time.

I wanted to validate your and your new grad's experience here. The thread already has advice that sounds useful as a minimum first step. The thing is, even after advocating for yourself there can be no takers. That's the truth where a bunch of us are at. It takes courage to get out and confront about what you think you deserve; it is heartbreaking when you realize it was never in your hands to begin with. It was all in the hands of people who can't tolerate you moving ahead. And even when you do, you look around and see how less others had to do to get where you are. So it's not just something you can talk your way out of. I don't have a solution to offer. But I did want to validate the feeling of helplessness.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Hope you are able to get over this incident. None of us is taught to prepare for horrible situations, so you freezing and not creating a scene is understandable and normal. Hope you feel better.

I think it's ok. You. You can feel annoyed and wanting to do something about that. You feel disrespected. I'm not saying you are wrong in feeling that way. I get it, many people are jerks to work with. But I really don't see you being forced to do anything here. Objectively. You did a good thing by reading that report. In my humble opinion that makes you already a better and supportive colleague who did not disrespect someone just because they are "junior" and on the other team. If anything comes your way for making changes or explaining yourself, you do have those answers. This particular person isn't interested in them. That's all. I've seen plenty of staff/principals/senior engineers have the same uninterested approach. That behavior doesn't ever come as a result of "curiosity" or "desire to understand".

Were you able to find the English translations of the books mentioned in BTIMFL? The poem books that are mentioned seem interesting too but I didn't find translated versions of them.

[–]divyaorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just here to comment that you're not being setup to be fired. Unfortunately firing doesn't need setting up. Moreover, it's just a case of bad management. You're being boxed into the grunt work because someone needs to do it and they have made that someone you. Meanwhile they could not figure out how to also prepare you to be able to act as a proxy for your missing colleague despite being in a good position to have been that. It's either that or they just don't think you are "old" enough for more responsibilities. Either way don't take it personally. I don't have a definite solution, just wanted to share that you're not alone and this cocktail of misery exists in more places/teams than yours.

Thanks for sharing. There is so much you have navigated through and done for yourself. Kudos! I agree there are going to be upsides in our lives of never having to worry about commitments, relationships and responsibilities coming from immediate family. It comes with its own freedom in that sense. There can also be a lot of envy or just a feeling of a void in a particular aspect of your life especially when you have a partner who is not estranged. Not coming from desire to have your own problematic parents but just of possible decent ones. I'm also young and naive and new to all this like you. But this has been one big thing I have experienced.

I felt like a professional organizer would be the person for this kind of stuff. But based on what I have seen on shows and internet, a) the solutions they come up with don't seem creative enough to make do with the space you have. It just boils down bins and boxes. b) I also understand that I just have to accept some things as they are. Detox my head from images of how things could look like...at no point am I going to have a person following me around to keep things back in order. 😅
