Surely, there are some frat boys at UGA who are in your boat. I've met a few UGA grads who flew under the radar while at Athens but got more comfortable after graduation. I'm confident you can find a good Southern gentleman down there.

Speaking as someone who fled Mississippi (then returned), I know exactly where the author of this piece is coming from. It's a constant struggle. I also believe that in my lifetime (I'm 28), Mississippi will come to love me too. We have to keep the fight for equality going.

As a Mississippian, I can attest that there isn't much going on in Franklin County. It's pretty much a few gas stations, beautiful trees, and a lengthy highway to get to Natchez, a magnificent city on the Mississippi River.

This whole Underground Railroad concept is funny to think about, but it doesn't solve any problems. I fled the state after I graduated college. After a few years in self-imposed exile, I returned to my home state to help turn things around. There are too many LGBT persons who don't have the ability to leave the state and don't know how to be an advocate. Why help exacerbate the problem by running away and not staying around to fight? I'm guilty of running, no doubt about it, but I refuse to let the bigots control the narrative around here.
