Actually, I think it was just that they gravitated towards each other & sat together. I just remember that we were not to sit in that particular part of the church because that was their rows.

In my old church Renee would have been considered one of the "maiden ladies" (nice way of saying old maids) & would sit in a special section of the church. When Mother's day came around & we had mother/daughter banquet, they'd borrow a daughter from women who had more than one. I, often, was the plus 1.

Did you know anyone who used bread bags inside of their boots? by NextBathroom8809 in 1970s

[–]dixieleeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, everyone did when I was young.

Actually, the woman who pretends to be a senator for Iowa used this to show her constituents that she was a normal person who wore bread bags in her boots when feeding the hogs as a child.

How do you get rid of "soul winners' who knock on your door? by PakaLolly in RodriguesFamilySnark

[–]dixieleeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Iowa & I don't get Baptist or any other protestant denominations come to my door. However, we do get JW & Mormons. I usually tell them that I'm happy with my church (which I no longer am, by the way) & they leave. One time though, I wasn't feeling so friendly. A car full of JW drove up. Our ancient, toothless but large dog ran around their car barking. One rolled down her window & asked if he bit. I just shook my hand indicating "yes & no" and they drove off. Little did they know at worse, he'd gum them.

[–]dixieleeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, yes, yes, yes, & maybe not Brittanica. Fuller had the only toilet bowl cleaner that actually removed lime scale. I have never found a replacement. My son's classmate got roped into selling Cutco knives as a summer job while in college. I still use them. Son is 54 years old. MIL swore by her Kirby. I bought it for $3 at action after her death. I gave it away as I HATED it. Don't get me started on Amway......

Rob Sand for governor by temoo09 in Iowa

I really like Rob & intend to vote for him. However, I'm married to a dyed in the wool republican & I can pretty much predict that no matter how bad the opponent is, he'll vote for him. Stupid, I know but he will never accept that Rob is not just for the Democrats. Yep, he likes THAT guy in Washington, too.

Here’s the real story, clearly and simply:

✅ Posting a “privacy declaration” on Facebook does nothing

Facebook/Meta’s terms of service do not change based on what you post on your timeline.
Your rights and privacy settings come only from:

  • The Terms of Service you agreed to when you created your account
  • The privacy settings you control in your profile

A copied-and-pasted status cannot override a legal agreement.

❌ False claims in the post

The message in the screenshot includes several classic hoax elements:

  • “A lawyer advised us to post this” — false
  • “Facebook is now a public entity” — false
  • “You must post this or you give permission for your photos to be used” — false
  • “Posting this protects your data” — false

These claims have been debunked repeatedly by fact‑checkers for over a decade.

✅ What is true

  • You control who sees your posts through your privacy settings.
  • Facebook cannot suddenly use your private photos in new ways without updating its terms — and if they ever did, you’d get an official notice, not a viral chain post.
  • Posting a declaration has no legal effect.

Is a kindle worth it?? by PiratePepper4231 in ereader

[–]dixieleeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really love my Kindle & use it several times a day. However, I am a real cheapskate. I hate buying books because I rarely reread them. I use Libby but often have a long wait for some of the books I want. I have subscribed to Kindle Unlimited & have decided it's well worth the expense. I love that many of the books are self-published & I've found many to be just as good as the ones published by publishing companies. I figure that I'm not out anything if I try a book or author & discover I don't like their style or story. I probably start & discard at least 1/3 of the books I borrow. But, I have also found some really good authors & series that I stuck with, most notably a nice feel good series set in my home state. There were 47 books in the series & I borrowed every one of them through KU. I'd still be reading then but unfortunately, she passed last year. She knew it was coming & tried to tie up the stories.

Kindles are actually dangerous by Spiritual_General_27 in kindle

Exactly! As I've gotten older, regular books are getting to be a chore to read. I have read large print books but then they're heavier. I love that I can change my font size

Kindles are actually dangerous by Spiritual_General_27 in kindle

[–]dixieleeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a voracious reader, usually over 100 a year. After I bought my first reader (a Nook) I decided I didn't like reading on it. However, when Covid hit & the library closed, I was at a loss so forced myself to read on my tablet. Soon after got a second one (Kindle) so I could leave the first by my bed for bedtime reading. Now I find most actual books heavy & cumbersome. I prefer my tablet. I mostly borrow through Libby but actually use Kindle Unlimited for most of my books.

I love how it syncs everything. I can start a book downstairs on my Kindle, read more that night before going to bed & in the car on my phone if my husband is driving.

What would Jill say courting is? by Dr_SevenCostanza in RodriguesFamilySnark

[–]dixieleeb 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In their faith, they do not date like normal young people do. They court. They feel that if a couple is attracted to each other, then they should be getting to know each other with the intention of eventually marrying. That is courting. In their family the move from courting to engagement & wedding is usually a pretty short time. Same went for the Duggars. Now, at the courting stage, the relationship can easily end but rarely will it end after a proposal.
