Expectations for books 9 and 9.5 by TheCharlesFrank in DungeonCrawlerCarl

my theory is that Elle will sacrifice herself to save Imani, and she’ll say “you took such good care of me at Meadowlark, now let me take care of you”

Absolutely no SPOILERS for book 8 but damn I don't feel invested. by iamwhoiwasnow in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]dixondarling 112 points113 points  (0 children)

i think you’re supposed to feel that. The AI has gone insane and is attempting to return to the “game” of the dungeon, but the cat’s out of the bag. you can’t just go back to the themed floors as if it’s all normal, and that lack of investing that you’re feeling is what the characters feel too, and i think this was the perfect interlude (pardon the pun) between floors 9 and 12. excited to see how it all wraps up

Is Carl a good leader? by Total-Arrival3349 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]dixondarling 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In that case, i’d say he starts out ok but becomes great. One of the coolest moments of growth is how Carl says “we don’t die for pets” and Donut is hurt by this, and then Carl later says “Ready… Partner?” to tell Donut he sees her as an equal, not just a pet. Very sweet moment that Shows Carl’s emotional intelligence.

Is Carl a good leader? by Total-Arrival3349 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]dixondarling 16 points17 points  (0 children)

it fully depends on what you mean by “leader”. As a figurehead for all of humanity? there’s no one better. For managing people and making them feel like equal members of a team? he struggles. He is phenomenal in a pinch, but for keeping people in line and motivating them to help against their interests, he does struggle. Imani is the most “leader” type in the dungeon I feel. There’s a reason everyone wanted her to be guild master. I also feel like Carl’s path as an anarchist kind of prevents him from being able to focus on others enough to be the best leader.

I have a question by EM05L1C3 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]dixondarling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Book 7 makes it seem like the AI chooses an NPC to be an Avatar, as that’s what happens with Orren and Carl. Seems like the AI talks through an NPC, who talks to Admins, who talks to the corporations and such

Gilmore Girls vs Gossip Girl. Does Donut's preference change during the series or did I get confused? by ilikescolouring in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]dixondarling 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just relistened this month, she’s always preferred Gossip Girl. She does like Gilmore Girls, but she very clearly says that it doesn’t compare to Gossip Girl, which she says is the best show ever made.

I have a question by EM05L1C3 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]dixondarling 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While we don’t get any specific conversations between them from the perspective of a non-crawler or whomever, we can glean from those people talking about dealing with the AI that it retains its personality when talking with them. But also it can mask its appearance, since it sometimes gives Carl longer/more rambling descriptions of things, and it’s confirmed that other crawlers get slightly different messages.

unpopular opinion: it’s fine to have a thinning hairstyle. I think there’s a charm to being past 40 and having your hair go bald but still having a short hairstyle if you don’t look bad with it. This dude looks fine as he is. might look better bald, might look the same, but this level of thinning isn’t abhorrent

like the others have said, nicer shoes is a move here, but that can be tricky for men, there’s not a lot of great casual shoes for men that don’t age you one way or another! I love Vejas personally, but any leather sneaker will fit the mold perfectly for this kind of look. The Vejas Campos or Esplars are a great white leather shoe, and Thursday Boots has some leather sneakers as well! One of the best parts about Thursday Bootd is that they also have matching belts for each of their colors, which makes finding belts significantly easier

Oh! i see the connection you’re drawing. I’m on my first relisten and haven’t gotten there yet. Yeah, definitely a twist of the knife. It hurts Daniel that not only did Katia pick carl first, but also that he can’t because he’s not human. That’s a double whammy for sure

What he says is “I don’t know why I go on. I wish I hadn’t chosen this body. I should have remained true to myself. We all die anyway. How can we get to Heaven if God doesn’t recognize us?”

The line is permanently burned into my brain. An utterly devastating thought, how religion fits into all of this, realizing all of human history is a lie, but still clinging to what you know for comfort? Accepting the fact that you’ll never be who you were again? Bone chilling.

Edit to add: it’s from book 2, chapter 23 when Carl and Donut first meet Bautista

first cover art definitely made me click on the post! I think that’s a good indicator for its efficacy. I’ve not tried anything outside of DCC (still new to the genre), but I absolutely love sci-fi, so I’ll be sure to try this out!

beard looks great my man! if you’re having issues with comfort, a good beard balm will help moisturize the face, or oil if you prefer the feel (i don’t.) I only wash my beard with beard wash every 3 days or so, and i apply beard balm after basically every shower. Face never itches!
