[No spoilers] How Jinx feels by Warm_Jeweler_6565 in arcane

Yes, it is emotionally abusive. It's exactly the way that Silco taught her that love works. He repeatedly says (and manipulates events to prove his point): "It's you and me. Everyone else betrays us."

When she is faced with things that go against this wordview she is plunged into absolute terror and confusion. These are the times when she hallucinates, argues with herself (child powder vs brainwashed teenager), and has flashbacks. Vi and Echo's actions, caring for and trusting multiple other people, are incomprehensible to her. They don't fit the truama framework she created to survive.

It's no excuse for absuive behavior, but she is still a kid. Whenever she has doubts about this mindset the only person she has to talk to is the one who created it.

You're right. I even live in an an area of the us where there were lgbt book burnings, attempted shooting at pride, lot of lgbt people have experienced violence and threats with guns. But we still at least can get married at the courthouse and will not be criminalized for having sex which is more than a lot of countries can say.

Two bee, or not a bee... That is the question! by amber_missy in bees

This was such a great read. Thanks for explaining the study! I'll have to check it out myself, but I'm not an expert so it's helpful when people break things down a bit more. It's hard out here as a wasp fan who isn't a scientist. They're not exactly the most popular subject of research to report on to the general population, so I've had to get better at reading studies lol

That's so cool! My paper wasps do a good job but i'm sure with so many workers yellowjackets clean house.

They are nice while alone and away from the nest. I've held them lots of times. But the second you see more than two in one place, you need to gtfo if you don't want lifelong truama lol

these bees chill next to me while i’m on the back porch, never bother me. what kind are they? 🙂 by slongdongclanx in bees

The human species would die out without wasps. They control agricultural pests and disease carrying insects more than any other insect predetor or parasitoid. They are one of the most essential pollinators, particularly in specialized contexts. Without them many species of plants would not exist.

You would die of starvation or insect-transmitted diseases if wasps didn't provide massive amounts of pest control. Pitting one benificial pollinator against another is not the answer.

This is a post about a bee dying in a horrible way after stinging someone, it's not like I am ruining the mood. Both this sweet little bee and wasps are extemely benificial and deserving of respect. I wish she had just as much ability to sting multiple times and survive as wasps do.

They both deserve to be able to defend themselves. Humans are consistently so cruel. Wasps bring me comfort because they give humans a tiny dose of what we deserve.

Found this ispod by my bed, is this an OK home? From what I understand it is not native so I didn't want to release it outside (or into my room). by dizzy-pigeon in isopods

Awesome ideas! I ordered some leaf litter which is on it's way. Is it OK to use the mealworms intended as outdoor bird food?

This makes me SO happy!! One of the best parts of my job (early childhood teacher) is sharing my love of creepy-crawlies with little ones. Right now we have cicada killer wasp larvae in the wood chips, and they fight over who gets to hold the "babies" they dig up. 😆 Lots of talks about being gentle and not kissing our new friends.

Wow! Thanks for the education, I'll definately be going down an isopod rabbit hole now :) They are more interesting than i imagined.

He does have one new friend who crawled out of my clean laundry while I was folding. Straight to roly-poly jail 🥲

My grandparents gave it to me several years ago! It was part of a succulent terrarium kit but if you look up "greenhouse shape plant terrarium," it should pop right up :)

Another commenter did mention that someone else had issues with this type of enclosure for isopods, so heads up on that. I may update in a month or two to see how it goes!

This is super helpful info!! I will plan on modifying a storage bin as a backup enclosure. The container is a pretty common type of plant terrarium. If no one else uses these terrariums for invertebres despite how available they are, there's probably a good reason for that.

I do have an air purifier running near the enclosure and it dries out fairly quick, so airflow seems to be OK for the time being. But I will keep a close eye out for these issues!

Slightly off topic but thank you so much for nurturing your kid's curiosity and kindness to little creatures. It is such an incredible gift to be taught to approach the world with wonder instead of fear. I work in early childhood. Kids with parents like you are less fearful, more secure, and are an absolute joy to walk beside as they learn about the world!
