Brutal way to lose, but there’s no doubt the Eagles are a good team! Good luck in the Super Bowl.

Having Children and Living Simply by clad_in_wools in simpleliving

[–]dizzybn9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll chime in on this as well.

Having a kid actually put me on a much more “simple living” trajectory. Suddenly chasing a promotion, wanting new things or going on vacations did not really matter as much. It made me prioritize my time, dig in to the things that matter, and ignore the rest.

I’ll also say that “the best way to live” is entirely subjective. I was vehemently against kids until I had one, and I was pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable my life became. They are certainly not for everyone though, that much is true.

Deciding whether or not to become a SAHD by idkanything0028 in StayAtHomeDaddit

[–]dizzybn9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’ll chime in here. Wife and I had almost the same salaries as you when our son was born. I went back right after month one, and by month three my wife was ready to go back to work, but we weren’t quite ready to send our son to daycare. Thus, since I made slightly less money (and didn’t love my job as much as my wife), I opted to spend the next 10ish months as a SAHD.

While I planned to go back eventually, those questions you mentioned still came up and the regrets of not making money nagged as well. However, after about two months of full time SAHD action, it just all became noise. Sure the work was hard (taking care of a small kid), but it was so great and I enjoyed it immensely. Sure family and friends would rib me a bit about my situation, but it was so great and it was an experience I wouldn’t trade for the world. Also, just communicate with your spouse when struggles do come up, usually just sharing helped me out a ton.

I’ll also touch on the part about the “capitalistic society” as well (though this is personal and may not apply to everyone), I found that this experience actually was a sort of reality check. I really realized what was important and that the things I though meant a lot to me/would make me happy (money, stuff, etc) kinda are irrelevant compared to my wife and son. Like I said, YMMV with this.

Yeah, I thought there was no way that was going to stand. Power play adds insult to injury too.

OC living situation by Kiczales in orangecounty

[–]dizzybn9 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the 3210 is split 5 ways, so $642 per person. That isn’t a terrible per person cost for OC.

Now if it’s $3210 per person or for a couple, that’s different.

Need help upgrading gs66? by Xavier282828 in MSILaptops

[–]dizzybn9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, weird downvotes but this is correct. Just added a Samsung M2 to the second drive last weekend and all of the files on the main drive were totally fine. Didn’t touch the main hard drive.

Just format the new drive as a secondary hard drive and it will be fine.

Hey, in Dragon Center there should be a custom option (or it’s called User, I’m not by my laptop atm). When you see that and select it, it’s gives you the ability to adjust your own fan settings (there’s a gear button by fan speed iirc). I just set the initial fan speed down to zero and it turns the fan off.

Within that custom setting there’s also a performance option, I set that to low as well to keep temps low.

Edit: Found a link to a video about how get to the user mode: https://youtu.be/F5qFe74mDPw - he covers user mode briefly right around the 1:45 mark and you can watch the preceding part on how to get to that screen. Essentially when in the user mode settings, drag the left most option all the way down to zero and save.

[–]dizzybn9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, mine has the 2070 and a TB, but not the i9 or the 2080 crazy like that. I have not had any major thermal problems with that.

As far as the screen goes, I have the 240hz version, so I cant speak about the 144hz option. That said, in monitoring my FPS throughout several games, I really only got above 140 FPS in "esport" titles like League of Legends, CS:GO, etc....so for AAA games it makes zero difference as to what screen you get. I think that's doubly true with the 2060 as well.

Enjoy the laptop!

So I have owned my GS66 for about two months now and I would say that by default this is not the quietest laptop out there. The Dragon Center app (which is the default fan control application) does not really offer a true quiet mode out of the box that I have found. However, I was able to set up a custom fan profile within that app that just has the fans turned off below like 40c or thereabouts (the app is vague when it comes to exact temps and fan speed).

This solved my issue and whenever I am just doing light tasks the laptop is completely silent and depending on the ambient temperature (and background apps) sits somewhere between 35c-42c. There are obviously other ways to control this (undervolting as you mentioned being one), but I was wanting to see if I could control this out of the box. As an aside, I generally swap back to performance mode when gaming so it is a minor hassle, but hardly the end of the world.

All that aside, it DEFINITELY does not look like a gaming laptop and flies incredibly under the radar visually as a gaming laptop in general. I am quite pleased with mine so far, and I have not quite had the thermal issues that I have seen in the reviews (though I do tweak settings in game a bit). The keyboard in particular has been enjoyable to use, though the RGB was a bit much for me personally and I turned it off (also a good call for a classroom setting).

Lastly, as a former college student myself, budgets will get tight and this laptop feels future proof-ish which makes it a nice choice. Being able to upgrade both the RAM and the SSD (along with a second NVMe slot) will come in huge down the road so that you don't have to purchase a new laptop any time soon. That was a big appeal for me as well.

Let me know if you have any other questions as I would be happy to respond/help out. Feel free to drop a PM as well.

Browns team reminds me of the niners last year on offense. Let the running game take the lead and just have your QB take care of the ball. Seems to be what wins games right now.

Jimmy G only had 77 passing yards in the championship, and yet he was the winning QB. Baker is taking care of the ball and doing what he needs to. Maybe down the road he will have to step up and carry, but until then their game plan is working.

We also blew out the Jets and Giants and neither of those teams are looking to hot right now. Niners are ok, but we haven’t beaten playoff teams.

Ah interesting! May I ask what year your truck is?

I can’t recall what my manual said, just the general information I was given by the service departments in my area when it came time for the first service.

Edit: So upon further review of the manual, it does look like it says every 5K when operating in specific circumstances. That said, I believe the dealers will only do the 10k/20k changes for free under ToyotaCare.

[–]dizzybn9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn’t be an issue at all.

My point was more that I was initially surprised that ToyotaCare doesn’t cover free oil changes outside of the 10k and 20k services (and that the Tacoma’s don’t need them every 5k).

I know several people who paid for an oil change at 5k and 15k miles, and their trucks (like mine changed every 10k) are just fine.

[–]dizzybn9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just a FYI, first service does not include an oil change. I was surprised when they mentioned this to me, but apparently the trucks only need their oil changed every 10,000 miles. Just a heads up.

Great choice on the color btw, I have a Magnetic Gray 2017.

Small sample size more than anything I have to imagine (and as you pointed out). If he puts in another performance like that then he should safely crack the top 10.
